The Boran
Incredible Hybrid Vigour
With a unique genetic composition, the Boran breed is perfect for crossbreeding and yields incredible hybrid vigour in any crossbreeding programme.
Fertility
Fertility, under the toughest and driest conditions Southern Africa has to offer, must be the most important attribute of the Boran. This characteristic ensures higher profit and higher sustainability for the beef farmer.
Tick and Parasite Resistance
Having been in Africa for over a thousand years, the Boran is well-adapted to local conditions. This includes being resistant to ticks and other parasites.
This attribute makes the Boran less expensive to manage, the cattle have less of an impact on the environment and delivers higher quality manure. This in turn increases the number of micro-organisms in the soil.
A truly natural way of herding cattle, like nature, intended.
Mother of All Cows
The Boran mother can protect her calves against predators. And with great udder characteristics and an abundance of milk, the Boran can ensure a calf-weight of 50% of the dam's weight.
The Boran’s mothering ability is proven in the excellent survival rate of calves, the small size of the calves and the ease of birth.
Top Class Beef
The beef quality of the Boran is exquisite. It is fine-grained, tender and is highly marbled with superior taste. The meat is the best the Zebu species has to offer.
Temperament
The Boran developed a calm, docile temperament over generations of living close to man. They are also easy to herd due to their strong herd instinct.
Stock Theft
It is almost impossible to steal a single Boran animal from a herd, making it the perfect animal for areas plagued by stock theft.
The Boran
Longevity in both male and female animals is a stand-out characteristic of the Boran.
As a grazer and a browser, the Boran fits into any farming system.
The future for sustainable, profitable, and responsible cattle farming in South Africa, starts with...
The Boran

  • The Boran cattle originate from border region southern Ethiopia / northern Kenya. The white British settlers from the Mount Kenya area near Nanyuki started ''improving'' this breed by doing rigorous recordkeeping/culling/metrixtesting... Later they exported to South Africa where they became even more improved. When comparing the whiteman's bred Boran to the original stock in northern Kenya its a world of difference. This white men did what KALRO is failing to do for decades --> improving a breed.

    • Zebu is an Indian cattle breed, introduced by Indians long ago. Do some research on that. Boran is purely East African, and the current breed was further improved from the original here in Kenya. Sad, is that SA stole patency to the Boran. Mzungu ni shetani mwenyewe.

That is largely why I wanted to address that issue to let anyone who holds such a claim know that we as Kenyans, or East Africans as a whole, are aware of the Indian origin of the Zebu, and are not confused about the Boran. • three points I have in my mind as questions... 1. Resistance to ticks...how so? Even Rhinos have tick problems and they have tough hides. 2. Mothers able to protect calves from predators...how so? None of them seem to have horns, and most animals in Africa have horns and have tough times fending off some predators. 3. No stock theft? If the animal is docile and lived in close proximity to man, then how is it that there are no thefts? Saying it is impossible. What do they do? Bond or hone in on who takes care of them? Odd.

    • 1.They're are highly sensitive to touch, they shake their skin to try n make them fall when they try to climb on them. 2. They are capable of having horns it is only that most farmers dehorn them for beauty n to try n avoid them harming each other 3. They always move as a head

    • Stock theft normally involves hearding the cattle away from where the owner normally goes to find them. I guess this means they don't just easily follow strange directions

    • @@abdulhukabonsora3435 No one said it was South African the narrator only said it is one of the easiest cows to grow in South Africa. To claim that a animal belongs to a certain group of people is just plain foolishness when everything belongs to the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth. You are a deluded person who lacks the simple comprehension skills of a toddler, you dont listen to what is being said, you rush to claim moral high ground. Trust me you not that guy pal
