Whenever I think about one of the most tense and powerful confrontations ever (including another Wembley-fraud ;) ), I always have to remember Germany-England 1996. "Turbo Möller" should've become the best player in his days, and 1 of the best ever; but, he did not have the right mentality and therefore "disappeared" out of many games, especially when it really mattered. Even in this game, he could in an earlier stage have decided it by outrunning the English with the ball in his feet to score (for a distance of up to some 80 meters) - one of his trademarks, mostly in "smaller" games...

Even accepting that you could get away with a lot more back then, there were so many tackles in this match that should have resulted In a card of one colour or another. Most people in England lament the Gazza ‘miss’, but I forgot we hit the post as well. Germany’s second goal should have stood. • So many memories from a legendary match: Two quality teams, evenly matched, giving it their all Sheer determination to win Shearer's lethal quality Sammar - the beating heart of the German machine Gazza's fractional miss and England's numerous chances Kuntz's disallowed goal Pearce's elation at exorcising his demons when he scored his penalty Moeller's reaction to his winning penalty
