We're down to the final round of the Championship season and it's four teams for one relegation place remaining with Huddersfield all but confirmed as participating in League 1 next season. Who out of Blackburn Rovers, Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City will be joining League 1 come Saturday afternoon?

  • The last time Blackburn got relegated to league 1, they had 51 points. Imagine they go down this season with 50 🤯

  • If Sheffield Wednesday stay up then Danny Rohl should be Championship manager of the season. When he took the job in October Wednesday had only 3 points, had scored only 5 league goals and he had entered a place that stunk of toxicity. He has somehow taken Wednesday from literally Mission Impossible to just needing a point on the last game of the season. Fair Play 👏

    • Certainly for neither Rohl nor Cifuentes to even be in the 3 nominations was crazy.

      @MrBonified66@MrBonified6617 күн бұрын
    • The problem with your theory is that you are ignoring Keiran McKenna. Ipswich have already got more points than any other promoted side and are favourites for 2nd place. Rohl and Cifuentes should have been nominated at the second and third best managers of this season respectively.

    • As a QPR fan definitely McKenna. But listening to SW fans talking as if Dany Rohl is the only great escape artist. SW 2 points worse off than QPR when Cifuentes came in and a side who should have been relegated the season before. SW a promotion winning side who needed to have some belief restored by no doubt a very very good manager. The difference to the outsider is that Cifuentes did his job way quicker and with less fuss. QPR not going into the final game with still a chance to go down.

As an Owls fan I won’t be comfortable unless we’re winning but with Sunderland we face a team in poor form who can’t score and we’re the opposite right now so I’m confident. As crazy as all 4 results going against them is, for Blackburn the potential is there with the toughest game and playing away! A crazy championship relegation season might have the craziest ending!

  • Can I say as well Ben, I remember that Live watch along you did between Wednesday and Birmingham back in February. I was up at 04:45 (Japan Standard Time) riding a 30km stretch on my bike listening to your Livestream as I've often done this season. It was just after the 0-4 Huddersfield loss, and I was fully expecting Birmingham to turn us over and pretty much finish us off for the season. The trajectories of the two clubs since that Wednesday win has been remarkable. Never thought in a million years we would have our fate in our own hands, and for the first time this year I actually think we're going to do it. Cheers for all of the Watchalongs to help those long cold journeys. Been with your channel since the 2kK subscriber days and seeing you grow as a KZhead channel against the market of clickbaiting football channels has been very satisfying. Keep it up mate!😎👍

  • I think there are two reasons why points totals are so much higher than usual this season. One is fewer draws. Total points taken per game is higher as a result, and the other is that there's basically been no mid-tier this season. There have been the promotion chasers and a few teams not far off making 6th, and then there's been everyone else except Rotherham.

    @saxbend@saxbend17 күн бұрын
    • Yep! And why have there been fewer draws? Because there's been more added time (i.e. more football!), leading to more goals and therefore a reduced likelihood of teams drawing.

  • At this moment I’d say that Birmingham are down. Not their fault that Mobray became ill and Rowett has had to come in and try to steady the club. But the owners have to take full responsibility for the calamitous situation that led to them having to have, is it 5 managers in a season!, if you included temporary managers. Unfortunately a whole host of American owners appear to have this “I’ll show you how it’s done!” kind of attitude and really have very little ability to understand the game, in my personal opinion. Eustace was doing well, although he might not have been tearing up the division, this was not a great change, timing or otherwise. Everyone has an opinion on Wayne Rooney, but it looks like his only good spell as a manager was at Derby, where he managed to keep them going completely against the odds. Again, personally I don’t see how a young manager who is trying to improve his abilities will learn anything from taking a managerial position in the US, where you’d have to say he failed. I feel absolutely gutted for the supporters of Birmingham who have witnessed first hand a complete shite show of a season.

That being said with Wednesday it never seems to be easy so who knows. I have a sneaking suspicion Birmingham will win against Norwich, they've had 6 sellouts at home and won the lot, for brum fans that has to be a sign. I worry for Plymouth as I just can't see them beating Hull, even a draw isn't really good enough as they wouldn't catch us or Blackburn. As for Blackburn I don't think it's out of the question that they may be in the mix as I can't see them getting anything at an end of season party atmosphere at Leicester. For me it's Plymouth who go.

So many "cup finals" and "must-win" games that we've failed to take advantage of. Only managing draws against the two teams at the bottom of the table in our last two away games tells its own story. We have some really good players, better than we've had for many seasons. As a team though we seem to panic and fold under pressure. We haven't any old-school warriors able to rally the troops. A draw between you and Hud last time left Wednesday needing only a point to secure our place, where we would have had to win if you had beaten them. We aren't in this fight because of a "regression to the mean" or "punching above our weight", we are there because of the behaviour of the rat ("I love it here, I'm not going anywhere") Schumacher and a poor, hurried choice of his replacement. Argyle have scored 5 goals in the last 11 games. Hull have everything to play for . It's entirely possible they will inflict a heavy defeat upon us to zero. Whether its five goals remains to be seen. • It would take quite something for Rovers to go down, I agree Ben. But I can confirm all Blackburn fans will still be on complete edge this Saturday lunchtime. Mainly because in 2017 - despite beating Brentford on the final day - Rovers got relegated with 51 points on goal difference. The team they lost out to? Birmingham. The fact there's not a completely implausible scenario where this could happen again (albeit with 50 points) makes you start to wonder if history is really trying to repeat itself. It's going to be extremely hairy to say the least. I absolutely expect us to get nothing from the Leicester game. Even if they've secured the title by then, Leicester will want to reach 100 points and put on a show for the home fans. And they won't have forgotten that the last time Blackburn went to the King Power they knocked them out of the F.A Cup. I don't think Jamie Vardy is renowned for his sympathy towards the opposition's plight, and I think he'll probably find any opportunity to help relegate us quite funny. Perhaps our best hope is that he leads the Leicester squad out on the mother of all benders this week following a win against Preston tonight and that they suffer for it come Saturday. Taking my Rovers hat off for a moment - should Blackburn stay up, I also agree Plymouth and Birmingham are the most vulnerable. Wednesday are loving life at the moment and are absolutely flying, and Sunderland appear to have logged off some time ago. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the team they put out on Saturday is just a selection of cardboard cut-outs plus Luke O'Nien who will run around trying to pull the opposition's shorts down. Could see Wednesday ending the season with another thumping win. Fair play to them. So a lot of it is going to come down to what Norwich and Hull do against Birmingham and Plymouth. It is genuinely amazing how the race for the play-offs will end up completely intertwined with the race for safety, right up until the very end. It's simply an incredible league. If you take the definition of a 'quiet night in at the library' - yeah. Whatever that is, the Championship is the complete opposite of that.

  • Love the channel Ben but I don’t think it’s a usual case of 1 point a game keeps you up. Last year 22/23 it took a Reading points deduction, otherwise you needed 50 to survive. Same the year before that in 21/22 with Reading again and Derby deductions, otherwise teams would have needed 48 points. 19/20 - needed 49 points 16/17 - needed 51/52 points So it’s very up and down from year to year. Can’t rely on points deductions every season :p

    @Borosmogs@Borosmogs17 күн бұрын
    • 10 year average for team relegated in 22nd is 42.9, 10 year average for team surviving in 21st is exactly 46. In 8 of the last 10 years you could reduce the team in 21st place to 45 and they would survive. There will always be high tide years, this is one of them!!

  • It really is Argyle vs Birmingham... Nervous much!! Both home, both got really tough games, both struggling for form. Flip of a coin! We win League 1, we have a blinder of a season (relatively speaking) up until Christmas, then lose our manager, lose a few key players, and down we go like a Led Zeppelin. It's more frustrating when it's at no real fault of own; albeit yes you do run a risk with loan players, but the 3 best ones??? That's pretty damn unlucky. Especially as one went to warm the bench, one was sold for an absolute steal and the other follows your ex-manager. Really hope we stay up, there is a real buzz around Home Park once again. There is a lot of investment going on to the infrastructure to make us a sustainable Championship club, but we are in a fragile position trying to rise up to that level. I'm confident if we can stay up for another season or two, replace the likes of Azaz and Schuey, we'll swiftly solidify our position in the league. And who doesn't want to watch regular Championship football!?!
