People who clip wings (unless it is for medical reasons which is VERY rare) shouldn't have birds. They've clearly never felt the joy of watching a bird fly for the first time in years after finally growing back the feathers he plucked before he was rescued. He was so happy, I'm not ashamed to admit I definitely cried because it was amazing.

@@abderrahmanelbasraoui3983 yeah just like hair, we had to cut their wings at the pet shop because otherwise they would fly onto the 20 foot tall rafters and starve up there because they were too scared to come down. Also we cut them when we had someone take them home, we didn’t want the bird slipping out of the box and flying away. Vets clip wings if the bird has to stay at the vets too. It doesn’t hurt them and it’s mostly used for the birds safety

Feathers grows back, so they can still fly once it grows back. Also clipping a birds feather are done for various reasons, like if they're injured, because many birds will fly away or try to escape when hurt and it will cause them even more pain if they fly, so that's why people clip them. Also i dont exactly know what you mean that they are able to fly when they are born, some birds can't fly till they look like adult birds, so they aren't exactly able to fly when they're born

Hace algunos años denuncié a un vecino mío que tenía muchos pericos en su jardín, metidos en jaulas y con las alas cortadas. Estuve 4 años sin saber lo que ese mal nacido le hacía a sus pájaros. El día que lo supe intenté denunciarlo pero nadie me quiso apoyar, así que tome justicia por mi propia mano. No puedo dar muchos detalles, solo que contacté con alguien que le hizo a ese hombre lo mismo que él le había hecho a sus pájaros. O algo así. No se qué habrá sido de él pero les puedo asegurar que nunca podrá volver a hacerle daño a ningún animal de nuevo, no por que no quiera sino porque ya no puede literalmente.

Well, they actually do this to limit the bird's flight ability. This does not hurt the birds or whatsoever. You see, they clip the bird wings to limit their flight. Preventing them from flying forever and them flying so fast they could hurt themselfs by banging into a wall, windowns and open toilets or a ceiling fan. This process is higly needed if you wanna keep your bird safe.

I completely agree. Sadly if I want to let my birds out of their cage, they have to be clipped or my mom won’t let me take em out and I don’t want them to be stuck in their cage their entire life. (Note I have two budgies and they live in a large flight cage, but we have cats so they can’t be hanging out unattended or- you know)

To tame birds, this cut must be initially done. Birds will listen learn only when they are in captivity. Instead of locking inside cages, better trim feathers, teach them, and let them free.

I own and have owned many birds, get them clipped young, they’ll be more docile and used to chilling with you. When their flight feathers grow back they’ll will fly around and even come to you. Keeping their flight feathers when they’re new or young make it exponentially more difficult to bond.

They can still fly with clipped wings. The clipped wings just ensure that they fly low if they are your indoor pet. But even clipped wings won't stop a bird to learn how to fly high with them. Some people also do this to Mark that the bird was once a house pet.

That’s not flying. Clipping their wings causes physical health problems and mental stress for the bird. It’s abuse if it’s done repeatedly and only should be done if it’s a medical necessity because it takes 3-18 months for their feathers to regrow while risking the birds long term health. And if they can’t fly higher, they’re more likely to knock into lower objects and won’t be able to steer away from other indoor pets, people unintentionally in their path, and will struggle to get back up off the ground because they’re struggling to actually fly in the first place.

It really depends on the type of birds. If they were wild then taken into captivity, than its pretty cruel if they were perfectly fine. But, if they were bred as a domesticated bird, then it’s HORRIBLE to set them free, as they wouldn’t know how to search for food nor keep warm. :/

I have 2 rescued birds that flew away from their owners. A parrot and a cocktail. They were, at different times, brought to us by neighbors who caught them. They knew that I care for alot of birds. I clip their wings to stop them from flying away again and from hurting themselves in our ceiling fans.

Because the moment I stopped doing this my free range house bird flew away when my mom opened the door and I never saw him again. They do not have survival skills to survive outside and they can still fly with only one wing clipped, they just can’t fly off into the wild to die. It does not hurt them, you just have to be careful not to clip them too short.

I had this done to my budgie when he was young (I regretted it instantly), because I have lots of tall windows without curtains and I wanted to make sure he didnt fly full speed against the window and injure himself. His feathers grew back and he now he is able to fly around. However, when I got my second budgie I just covered the windows with newspapers and foil and slowely removed them piece by piece and they're both flying now. If you can avoid clipping the wings, please do so. It broke my heart to see my budgie without his feathers complete.

The people here aren’t actually harming these birds. They are simply trimming the feathers to prevent the birds from flying due to medical reasons. An example is if the bird is healing from an injury via their wings, it’s natural for them to fly away causing them to worsen their condition. This process is to only heal the bird not injure it! Don’t worry, these feathers are capable of growing back and it’s perfectly safe for the bird. :)

i have birds and honestly you’d know if they were in pain. cutting their wings don’t hurt them at all, unless you cut them wrong. we have to trim my birds wings because they’ve smacked themselves into stuff that can potentially hurt them. now we don’t cut them often, but we do it when its most necessary. i can see how watching this video can make people feel uncomfortable and upset for the birds, but i can assure you that they’re fine :) it’s really almost like getting a haircut for them! they aren’t really aware of their surroundings and get scared easily so thats why they’re making screaming noises. i can assure you i know what a bird looks and sounds like when in pain, and this isn’t it :)

For those who don’t know, clipping bird feathers are mostly done due to medical reasons such as the bird getting injured or attacked and this can help the bird and feathers grow back so this will help healing. Also clipping bird wings trains them not to fly away so when the birds have their feathers back it’s used to not flying away so it doesn’t. But this is also really sad seeing birds not able to fly.

They can take away their own feathers with their beak, i'm from Brazil and there's a lot of wild birds alongside pigeons and sparrows, you can see them anywhere outside of the central areas and from time to time you can see feathers on the ground. If they could not, there would have been lots of birds on the ground as they sometimes end up fighting and even had to take care of one "Trinca Ferro" bird that was on my yard for some time because he got beaten up BADLY and could not fly anymore for a while. What they do on this video is at least going overboard and on my opinion straight up evil as if the feathers where bad they would have been removed and not clipped, they do this so they cant fly anymore for a while.

It could be for the sake of the bird. If the animal was hurt and was healing. And it's not permanent. Birds will regrow those primary feathers again. Dont get me wrong, NEVER EVER do this if you dont or cant do it right or are inexperienced. As you could hurt the animal. Always talk to a vet about this. But for the most part, it's just for the birds safety. Some owners keep them fully flighted. Some dont. It's down to the type of bird and/or the situation.

Only time I clipped wings was when my chickens learned to fly up where the pigeons had their nests to lay eggs destroying their eggs and sometimes killing the babies. They had nests, they free roamed and still choose the pigeon's nests. Birds are too beautiful to damage them like this.

We had a big bird that would fly away from us and hit the window with full speed, he kept doing this and we were afraid his beak would break. Now of course I know that you can train birds but ours always flew away so we clipped his wings but not too much he could still fly, after that he stopped running as much and became friendly to us etc etc. I’m not saying that this is right but we did manage to train the bird into being friendly and short after we taught him to fly again

coming from a former bird owner, a birds wings are usually clipped when they are young as they still arent trained yet, and can fly away easily! when they are old enough to understand not to fly away, the owners stop cutting their wings. cutting their wings does not hurt the bird unless it is cut too short :)

For some birds its better for their safety to do this. Some birds with vision issues (or birds that are very skittish) can fly straight into walls and seriously injure themselves. It seems better to limit their flight and give them more safe access around, than to keep them cooped up in a cage constantly.

Well, almost everyone in this comment section doesn't own birds or know much about them. While I personally don't Clio my birds, there are very real reasons why you would do it. This doesn't harm them, so you have nothing to worry about. The only real concern is if you're untrained. If you miss and hit a blood feather, you will likely bleed them out, so don't do it unless you absolutely know what you're doing. But yes, you would do this for harness training or if you have a bird that needs it for taking medicine.

I get it if you keep the bird strictly indoors- don’t clip. However, if they go outside you don’t want to risk them flying away. Most pet birds are not able to survive outdoors for very long, and will die from being hunted or starved because they don’t get the proper nutrients. Keep in mind that there ARE perfectly reasonable scenarios to use these types of tricks.

I got my bird from a bad place were he was clipped in a wrong way. His wing never fully grew back so he misses a few. He loves to climb around his cage and cling onto the walls when he sleeps in the evening. Love him so much, glad I could give him a safe space

They've clearly never felt the joy of watching a bird fly for the first time in years after finally growing back the feathers he plucked before he was rescued. Also we cut them when we had someone take them home, we didn’t want the bird slipping out of the box and flying away. Vets clip wings if the bird has to stay at the vets too. It doesn’t hurt them and it’s mostly used for the birds safety

Well, they actually do this to limit the bird's flight ability. This does not hurt the birds or whatsoever. You see, they clip the bird wings to limit their flight. Preventing them from flying forever and them flying so fast they could hurt themselfs by banging into a wall, windowns and open toilets or a ceiling fan. This process is higly needed if you wanna keep your bird safe.

I completely agree. Sadly if I want to let my birds out of their cage, they have to be clipped or my mom won’t let me take em out and I don’t want them to be stuck in their cage their entire life. They can still fly with clipped wings. The clipped wings just ensure that they fly low if they are your indoor pet. But even clipped wings won't stop a bird to learn how to fly high with them. Some people also do this to Mark that the bird was once a house pet.
That’s not flying. Clipping their wings causes physical health problems and mental stress for the bird. It’s abuse if it’s done repeatedly and only should be done if it’s a medical necessity because it takes 3-18 months for their feathers to regrow while risking the birds long term health. And if they can’t fly higher, they’re more likely to knock into lower objects and won’t be able to steer away from other indoor pets, people unintentionally in their path, and will struggle to get back up off the ground because they’re struggling to actually fly in the first place.

I have 2 rescued birds that flew away from their owners. A parrot and a cocktail. They were, at different times, brought to us by neighbors who caught them. They knew that I care for alot of birds. I clip their wings to stop them from flying away again and from hurting themselves in our ceiling fans.
Because the moment I stopped doing this my free range house bird flew away when my mom opened the door and I never saw him again. They do not have survival skills to survive outside and they can still fly with only one wing clipped, they just can’t fly off into the wild to die. It does not hurt them, you just have to be careful not to clip them too short.
Two of my boys are only just learning to fly again, clipped at the pet shop and now they're like attack helicopters around the house hahaha

I had this done to my budgie when he was young (I regretted it instantly), because I have lots of tall windows without curtains and I wanted to make sure he didnt fly full speed against the window and injure himself. His feathers grew back and he now he is able to fly around. However, when I got my second budgie I just covered the windows with newspapers and foil and slowely removed them piece by piece and they're both flying now. If you can avoid clipping the wings, please do so. It broke my heart to see my budgie without his feathers complete.

The people here aren’t actually harming these birds. They are simply trimming the feathers to prevent the birds from flying due to medical reasons. An example is if the bird is healing from an injury via their wings, it’s natural for them to fly away causing them to worsen their condition. This process is to only heal the bird not injure it! Don’t worry, these feathers are capable of growing back and it’s perfectly safe for the bird. :)
We had chickens (about 28 I think) and we never clipped their wings. We spoiled them that much they didn't want to leave, in fact I remember when they would accidentally escape from the garden they would freak out and run straight back in when I opened the gate 😅

i have birds and honestly you’d know if they were in pain. cutting their wings don’t hurt them at all, unless you cut them wrong. we have to trim my birds wings because they’ve smacked themselves into stuff that can potentially hurt them. now we don’t cut them often, but we do it when its most necessary. i can see how watching this video can make people feel uncomfortable and upset for the birds, but i can assure you that they’re fine :) it’s really almost like getting a haircut for them! they aren’t really aware of their surroundings and get scared easily so thats why they’re making screaming noises. i can assure you i know what a bird looks and sounds like when in pain, and this isn’t it :)

For those who don’t know, clipping bird feathers are mostly done due to medical reasons such as the bird getting injured or attacked and this can help the bird and feathers grow back so this will help healing. Also clipping bird wings trains them not to fly away so when the birds have their feathers back it’s used to not flying away so it doesn’t. But this is also really sad seeing birds not able to fly.
It also makes them really clumsy flyers to where they basically have to re-learn how to control their flight
They can take away their own feathers with their beak, i'm from Brazil and there's a lot of wild birds alongside pigeons and sparrows, you can see them anywhere outside of the central areas and from time to time you can see feathers on the ground. If they could not, there would have been lots of birds on the ground as they sometimes end up fighting and even had to take care of one "Trinca Ferro" bird that was on my yard for some time because he got beaten up BADLY and could not fly anymore for a while. What they do on this video is at least going overboard and on my opinion straight up evil as if the feathers where bad they would have been removed and not clipped, they do this so they cant fly anymore for a while.

if you don’t want an animal that flies, don’t get a bird. it’s that simple.
It could be for the sake of the bird. If the animal was hurt and was healing. And it's not permanent. Birds will regrow those primary feathers again. Dont get me wrong, NEVER EVER do this if you dont or cant do it right or are inexperienced. As you could hurt the animal. Always talk to a vet about this. But for the most part, it's just for the birds safety. Some owners keep them fully flighted. Some dont. It's down to the type of bird and/or the situation.
And trimming the feather CORRECTLY causes no pain.

Only time I clipped wings was when my chickens learned to fly up where the pigeons had their nests to lay eggs destroying their eggs and sometimes killing the babies. They had nests, they free roamed and still choose the pigeon's nests. Birds are too beautiful to damage them like this.

We had a big bird that would fly away from us and hit the window with full speed, he kept doing this and we were afraid his beak would break. Now of course I know that you can train birds but ours always flew away so we clipped his wings but not too much he could still fly, after that he stopped running as much and became friendly to us etc etc. I’m not saying that this is right but we did manage to train the bird into being friendly and short after we taught him to fly again

Cutting the first set of wings doesn’t hurt the birds we used to have to trim my chickens wings just to keep them from flying out of the pen (they are free range now so we don’t have to anymore) no hate btw

coming from a former bird owner, a birds wings are usually clipped when they are young as they still arent trained yet, and can fly away easily! when they are old enough to understand not to fly away, the owners stop cutting their wings. cutting their wings does not hurt the bird unless it is cut too short :)

For some birds its better for their safety to do this. Some birds with vision issues (or birds that are very skittish) can fly straight into walls and seriously injure themselves. It seems better to limit their flight and give them more safe access around, than to keep them cooped up in a cage constantly.

Well, almost everyone in this comment section doesn't own birds or know much about them. While I personally don't Clio my birds, there are very real reasons why you would do it. This doesn't harm them, so you have nothing to worry about. The only real concern is if you're untrained. If you miss and hit a blood feather, you will likely bleed them out, so don't do it unless you absolutely know what you're doing. But yes, you would do this for harness training or if you have a bird that needs it for taking medicine.
Yea as someone who has owned birds, I have clipped my cockatiels wings because she had one eye and because of that was very skittish, they had to be cut down just enough for her to glide a bit if she fell off her cage, but not to fly in circles into walls.

I get it if you keep the bird strictly indoors- don’t clip. However, if they go outside you don’t want to risk them flying away. Most pet birds are not able to survive outdoors for very long, and will die from being hunted or starved because they don’t get the proper nutrients. Keep in mind that there ARE perfectly reasonable scenarios to use these types of tricks.

I got my bird from a bad place were he was clipped in a wrong way. His wing never fully grew back so he misses a few. He loves to climb around his cage and cling onto the walls when he sleeps in the evening. Love him so much, glad I could give him a safe space
