The old man in the full scene expressed how he respects Tommy and doesn't want to cross him,he expected respect in return.Honestly seemed like a man of reason and wanted to keep the peace but John insulted him and went overboard with threatening his son.The term Sabini said suck and swallow but no i spit, first it was just business than got personal.Even Arthur became concerned and cautious. Johns ego caught up with him
Do you really respect someone when you say "I respect you" in one sentence only to cross the line in the very next sentence? His son can be with whomever he wants even if that woman is one of the Shelby's really? Is that what you consider respect? Respect shows in one's actions, not words. The Italian was never respectful.
@@vasilisgreenhe didn’t cross a line. He said his son is in love with Lizzie and that’s their business. John was laughing in that old ass man face. Arthur is a wild animal and still had sense.

The actor wanted out
Gangsters disrespecting other gangsters. It’s why the cemetery and the penitentiary full.
Never send someone to do your business, bet Tommy would have avoided conflict, those other guys are fools
Calling John a gangster is a very generous statement. A spoiled, entitled, arrogant piece of work is more of what I would go with. No smarts, no self control, no patience, no connections outside of the ones Tommy got for him, no money earned himself. They were all want-to-be Tommy's.
@@rachel5399 Gangsters are often all of those things you listed LMAO
@@rachel5399i mean look at sabini. He was supposed to be one of the big bad gangsters that was feared in the early seasons, but he's less capable than even john
@@sollertiskhan3254I also was like 🤔 reading the description of A LOT of gangsters, precisely. SOME men go I’m a business man. I’m not a gangster. And they run with that statement about the illegal things they do, so I think the person’s comment is maybe confusing the two. I’ve definitely noticed the character’s (Tommy)tendency of a very specific thinking process, very often secret even from main family members that are a part of the gang. And I keep going back to that statement wondering if maybe Tommy is one of those people, more of a business man than a gangster, because he uses his head, he uses his brain way more than he uses his force even tho at times it’s necesary because of the nature of his ‘business’ per say, and even that, is always strategic with him. Even the force, the threats, the guns, the fire’s they cause… everything. As opposed to John who worked as his own security almost, even tho they had men who where the designated ‘muscle’, John acted as if he didn’t need the protection and the help and could use the guns himself, he was the pure brutal force himself, didn’t respect rules, didn’t respect NOBODY which is the attitude of a gangster, no fear against anybody, a temper they can’t seem to be able to control and that’s why people fear them and need to be cautious around them or they might lose, a body part, or their life if they get them angry for any reason or just ‘cause they can… they can do it and they know it and that’s where the arrogance comes from. Tommy well, is not that he IS afraid of other gangs or politicians or different parties, his face expressions show that he doesn’t give a fuck and respects nobody either, the only reason he doesn’t snap is purely for strategy, and being the man in charge, the leader who’s taking them to the promise land, planning and mapping out things, to try and gain position, better money, a better life, a better future for them AND the generations to come, whereas John’s post isn’t being the leader, he just knows being a criminal and liking money and violence which is most gangmembers ever… and he doesn’t know what’s going on half the time he looks around, he doesn’t have to ask questions he just takes orders and acts as a hitman, and he doesn’t need to know what’s really going on anyways ‘cause he’s not the one calling the shots. Not everybody CAN be the boss, not everybody SHOULD be the boss, not everyone has to be the brain, there is a chain of command and Tommy knows it ‘cause he’s been to war, and John respects Tommy ‘cause he knows that firsthand so he trusts him most of the time, he just knows the lifestyle and he just gets to enjoy not being civilized, and no rules applying to them ‘cause they’re the fucking peaky blinders, that’s how the mop pretty much works, especially family members that know they are UNTOUCHABLE.
John reacted like an Asian parents when the old man said "my son is in LOVE" 😅😅😅😅😅
All because John didn’t understand that when you have the crown and the power that comes with it you have to keep the respect and responsibility it entails
He didn't even have the crown, truly. He merely was just an onlooker of it. A pretender. Tommy was the only one close enough to reach out and grab it, and yet always chose to go find a bigger throne to fit his ego on. A self destructive ambitionist with the means of holding the reins if only he gripped instead of endlessly reaching.
What are you on about? The old guy was far more disrespectful, crossing lines that should never be crossed. Do you know how his story ultimately ends? I don't want to spoil it if you haven't seen the show
@@vasilisgreenso what he still take Tommy beloved wife to the grave with him and all this happen it's because of John direspect

John threatened to knee cap his son and then ambushed and cut his sons eye out for saying he was going to kill John, then instead of apologising they stole their pubs so old guy said go shoot Tommy and accidentally killed his wife. @@Bruce918 The old dude's son was overstepping and the old dude not only did he approve of this but he also crossed the line himself against the shelbys. That's when John threatened to shoot the knees off of the changretta kid. You have a family and someone is disrespectful towards the women of your family and considers them as his own to pass his time with, you do not let that slide.
"I heard the blackbird sing." ~ Arthur Shelby
It didn't have to be that way.
I think the number one eyeseeing moment from this scene is the fact that although Arthur in the end tells John he’s stupid for pissing off the Italians, Arthur played it cool with John while Changretta was talking to them. Arthur played it along as if he feels the same way John does but then when Changretta leaves, Arthur gives him the what for and tells John Tommy will be mad.
John was my favourite and made me laugh but he deserved that
That's why Thomas is the best Shelby, he knows when it's good to be silent

Nah Vincente had already passed the family business to Luca and was basically retired. All John had to do was leave him alone and the Changrettas would leave well enough alone.
Even Polly instructed them to not tell Tommy about the chair thing.
Fun fact: the real PB, they got all destroyed by italian mob in early 20's 💀

@@senortrotsky5794 I did not know. I had read that when the Italians took over London and its surroundings, they cleared a clean sweep.

Where can I find the real story ?
Weren't they literally just a super small time group of like 4 guys who got arrested for stealing a bicycle? That's the story I've heard, probably never even did anything beyond very very small time petty crime...
John’s mistake was not dropping the wife like Tommy told him too.
Because of This scene - Grace Died, John Dien, Italian Died ... Whole season 5 started 😂
This scene is a perfect example of how the real world works - no matter what you do, there will always be a cost.
THOMAS SHELBY 🍷🗿
This is the reason why everything escalated with the Italians. John and Arthur's pride got the best of them.
Maturity is when you realise that John was wrong that time.
"Next day, the mf was dead"
Is it only me or did the old man actually look like a game character in the first scene
Bellissima scena
Those words got him killed😅
My favourite actor ever. John shelly.
This shit wouldn't have gone sideways if Tommy was in this meeting.
John goated each scene like Tommy
Make the music louder I could hear the dialogue
After that John walked off laughing then he went home and lived happily ever after
John made him rage quit without even playing a game
Don’t tell Tommy about the chair
I think people miss the point of this scene and the follow up. Changretta was there because the Blinders wouldn’t let his son marry a woman from their territory. People act like John made the wrong choice, but Tommy says John made the right choice because allowing the Italians their autonomy would give them too much power. The real mistake was John and Arthur not killing Mrs Changretta, as them letting her live lets her go back to New York and gather a force to retaliate. As Tommy said “if we lift our heels off their neck for one second, they’ll just come at us”
Legends 🙌🏼🍷
The BOSS showing his anger is another level of symbolism.
My fav scenes are when they met with the Italians..its just so iconic ..
And 3 got killed for that line .
Only one john was humiliating was himself
Jon is a G
Every one of these videos I have no clue what's happening but it's hilarious
"Sabini says suck and and swallow. No I spit!"
But he still sucks 😂
First off disrespecting your elders is a big no. That’s just common decency. You threaten the man’s son? You got it coming then
Well, the old man wasn’t in Italy, he was in England, the home of these guys and was throwing around orders like he was the boss, you don’t do that, go to someone else’s home and tell the locals that your son can have any woman he chooses, the Changrettas had it coming. Also, you can’t have any woman you want. If that woman belongs to a very powerful family then you can’t just claim her. We have a story based on a similar thing, a very wise and intelligent evil emperor wanted a woman who was the wife of another emperor and he disguised himself as a sage begging alms and kidnapped the wife. Her husband found out about it and a massive man hunt was underway. It led to a huge war and the evil emperor was killed for it after being shot in the naval with an arrow. He wanted this woman because he thought he could have any woman he wanted, he kept her in his kingdom but couldn’t touch her, he tried to woo her but she refused and only wanted her husband. Sorry for the long rant
