He was given this offer, because he was born in Vienna. He declined stating, that he felt Czech, as both of his parents were czech. He feared retaliation, but Rudi Grammlich, a retired Eintracht Frankfurt player, had saved him from any possible retaliation and made sure nobody demanded something like that.

  • A bit of a shame, that Maqwell forgot to talk about Germany's participations at the Confederations Cup 2005 (They were allowed to participate because of being next World Cup hosts) and 2017 (They were allowed to participate because of being World Champions). Might not have had any significance, but both tournaments showed the problems and potentials of the German NT for their next respective world cups. While Germany finished 3rd Place (Bronze) at home after a wild match for 3rd Place against Mexico (4:3 aet) and proved their mental strength against their opponents, Germany conceded very many goals when playing against its opponents, letting many wishes for the Defense open and not fully eliminating all doubts yet. The Confederations Cup 2017 in Russia, the last edition of this mini world cup up to date, was the third participation for Germany, where they took their B-Team with the likes of among others Goretzka, Ter Stegen and Stindl to the tournament. The reason was to leave most players from the A-Team out and allow them to rest during the summer break, while also giving more players a chance to get nominated for the next world cup. Despite Germany's defense was also not the best one and Ter Stegen letted more goals into the back of the net than Bayern Munich leaving Dortmund chances to win the Bundesliga last season, the B-Team managed to get it done and defeating Australia 3-2, drawing 1-1 to Chile and then winning Group B after a 3-1 Win over Cameroon. The semi against Mexico was, unlike 2005, a pretty one-sided match where they dumped the North Americans 4-1 (they lost 3rd place to Portugal afterwards 1-2 aet bruh). Germany on the other hand went to their first final in the Confederations Cup and defeated Chile after a fatal mistake by the Goalkeeper early in the first half 1-0. Stindl ended up being Top scorer of the tournament, who also scored the winning goal in the final. The Win of the Confederations Cup with the B-Team was very likely another major factor, why the horrible World Cup campaign a year later was the more shocking.

  • As a German I can say, that I used to believe that no generation could ever be worse than the one between 1998 and 2004, but I was so wrong... Since the World Cup 2018 the German Football has been being in the darkest age in their history. The difference is, that in the begin of the 2000s, the Germans didn't have a lot of talents besides Ballack and Kahn. Even Klose was just an average player at that time, so it was really dificult to achieve something with this lack of talent. But now we have so many talents and top players like Neuer, Rüdiger, Kroos, Müller, Wirtz, Musiala, Gündogan and yes, even Kimmich is doing much better than our former Players 20 years ago, and they were still able to be knocked out in the World Cup Group stages twice in a row, which it didn't happen before.

    • I felt that since 2012, Joachim Löw overstayed his welcome. We didn't win 2014 because of him IMO, we won in spite of him. Perhaps the spirit of Campo Bahía, combined with a modern golden generation? Anyway, once Oliver Bierhoff started that "Die Mannschaft" gimmick, that's where we finally jumped the shark. And it's a good thing that Neuendorf killed "Die Mannschaft". If the upcoming Euro doesn't change anything, then we may face the worst case scenario that Italy has faced twice in a row: Das Aus in der WM-Qualifikation.

    • @@bundesautobahn7 Nah thats not true, honestly without Löw we would have never won the World Cup in 2014. It was him that got inspired by the Tiki Taka Football from Spain and it was him that let the Germans play on quick counter attacks, which was their biggest strength at that time. I think until 2017 everything seemed to be fine, because they could have also won the EUROS in 2016, but it was just bad luck against the hosts France. I think the political and social pressure from 2018 was too much hitting on that team, especially on Özil, and the country didn't really focus on the game but on him and the picture with Erdogan. In 2021 it was the rainbow discussion and in 2022 once again. But don't get me wrong, I also stand against racism and homophobia and I also pretected Özil and Gündogan back in 2018. I think the biggest problem was the bad communication from the DFB, especially from Bierhoff and Grindel. And what was also a big factor for the misery in the past few years is the odd talent system. I mean, besides Musiala and Wirtz, we almost have no special dribbling players in our team, and yes, even Germany used to have them, like Mehmet Scholl, Bernd Schneider, Ansgar Brinkmann or Mesut Özil, but the Youth performance centers of today don't really train those abilities anymore, because they think, that teamwork and condition would be much more important, which is probably true, but that doesn't mean that it's unnecessary to train it.

  • 51:58 funfact regarding Pawel Janas is that he didn't even called Champions League winner Jerzy Dudek for the World Cup 2006, same goes with Tomasz Frankowski (who was like Polish Jordan Pefok at the time) and Bartosz Bosacki who ironically scored the only 2 goals for Poland in this World Cup as he was a sub for unfortunatly injured Damian Gorawski. I know, Maqwell moaning about Gregg Berhalter calls for USMNT for the World Cup 2022 was hilarious, but Paweł Janas calls for World Cup 2006 are on a different level, believe it or not. Edit: Poland National Team - legacy of failure video really begs to be made.

Like I said before I.got carried away this is the best video on not only German but European and and World football! This should be required viewing for ALL academy youngsters.. Well Done 👌

  • Pretty good anaysis. I have another point why german recrutememt isnt working. The only way into top football is through the 150ish NLZ's. Players outside of these ranks have nearly no chance of getting into the top tier when there isnt a godd coach or scout involved which gets him up the tiers. Examples where it worked out are Niklas Füllkrug Jan-Niklas Beste (he could be a wild card for the Euros because he is such a talented Free-Kick taker) Deniz Undav (i personaly remember him playing against my team in the german 3rd tier)

  • Finally, another Maqwell's breathtaking essay videos regarding the failures of big teams. Would be hillarious to make England's national team (since 1966) as well. Some important infos (there were too many comments, but I will add missing ones: 1.52:49 Jens Lehmann had a good performance during the 2005/06 season, which is the reason Klinsmann favoured him in the World Cup. His performance with Arsenal during the Champions League was insane that the North London team had a clean sheet in 10 games up until the Final against Barcelona in Paris, at which he was disgracefully sent off for the reckless tackle with Samuel Eto'o. Lehmann had even denied Roman Riquelme's penalty in dying minutes that would have sent the 2nd leg tie of semifinal against Villarreal into the extra time. In fact, Arsenal should have won the Champions League if Lehmann didn't sent off! 1.1:20:19 While it's a clearly off-topic, I would also mention out that the women's football of Germany were in the shambolic form. Even though they had recently qualified for the next Olympics through the Nations League results, the women's team had some dreadful form, particularly the last Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Despite beating Morocco 6-0 in the opening game, they surprisingly lost to Colombia and were eliminated after failing to beat South Korea and Morocco beat Colombia to leapfrog Germans. They also had a bad luck in the last 2 Womens Euros, even losing to England in the most recent Womens Euro Final at Wembley. Not to mention, they had some shock results in friendlies, such as losing 2-3 to newcomer Zambia.

  • Well as a german i feel qualified to say that the current state of the DFB and Die Mannschaft is horrific. Germany has world class players and world class coaches (yes i counted Hansi Flick as world class coach cus he won a freaking sextuple with a great but still not the best team in club football at the time) yet still we fumble our way trough international games. Thinking back at the 0:2 against Austria last year which was the worst internation game i watched in my live made me feel ashamed of what has become of my Mannschaft. With Nagelsmann leaving after the Euros i can't even see it getting better in the near future. I'm sure that Germany won't get out of the group Stages in the Euros and even if they do then they are going to fail in the round of 16 like last time. Just thinking of another disapointing turnament performance makes me sad. Hopefully it will get better. With all the young german talents and a proper Coach who combines the strenght of his players instead of forcing them into his sytem Germany can be great again one day...
