  • It's good that Jessica's getting the crowd support that she deserves. She truly is the best American woman right now. Aggression, speed, accuracy, and BEAUTIFUL drop shots. Not to mention incredible heart.

    • Pegula is indeed a consistent player, almost always makes it to the quarterfinals of major and premier tournaments, but somehow lacks the weapons to go all the way: a third or fourth gear, a go-to killer first serve, etc. She is pushing 30 and I'm afraid the window will close on her as Iga, Rybakina and Krejcikova continue to dominate during the next five years.

Potapova is only 21, I hope she stays injury free, because she is a pleasure to watch. I wish Pegula wins a big tournament, a 1000 level. She has the consistency, but unfortunately she lacks the big weapon. I respect her more for that, she makes the best of her talent. • How is it a match of her life? It isn't a compliment if you tried to make one. Because it's an underestimation of her level. In the last 12 months she has beaten Krejcikova, Kontaveit, Kudermetova, Vondrousova, Stephens, Martic (twice). She won 2 main tour titles and reached several finals. So that's absolutely normal that she can compete with top players.

  • rightful top 10. very consistent and solid strokes. I've always wondered what is so special about pegula's game how she is successful without weapons. but i think it's the consistency. lesser speed, but i think she is this generation's wozniacki 😅

    • Wozniacki was a defensive wizard, Pegula has more aggression, don't you think?

      @juanmanuelportillo9293@juanmanuelportillo9293 Жыл бұрын
    • @Juan Manuel Portillo I absolutely agree. Pegula is more aggressive and she has been playing more aggressive all year. She added more aggression after her poor performance at the year end championships last year. I would actually consider Gauff to be this generation's Wozniacki. Mostly defensive, short landing forehand, wins lots of matches and beats lower ranked players simply by keeping the ball in, is consistent in tournaments and all year, always wins lots of matches by beating the players beneath her, but struggles to win the biggest titles because at some point during the 6 or 7 matches needed to win a big tournament, she plays an opponent who is aggressive and hitting well that blows her off the court due to her super short landing forehand and the inability of her forehand to handle hard hit shots because of how extreme her grip is. Gauff does have a better serve than Woznaicki though. So I would consider Gauff to be the current Wozniacki. I think Pegula overall has a better game.

    • @@brennenrivera4288, yes, I agree that Pegula has a better game than Gauff at this point (and yes to all you said about Pegula after the year end championships). About Gauff being the Wozniacki of this generation, I don't know; she is just 18 and still developing her game, and she hasn't reached her physical prime. I think that Gauff has a higher ceiling than Pegula and Wozniacki... let's see if she fulfills her potential.

      @juanmanuelportillo9293@juanmanuelportillo9293 Жыл бұрын
    • @@juanmanuelportillo9293 I do agree with you that Gauff is only 18 and has A LONG career ahead of her. I guess I should say that she is thr Wozniacki of this generation just in terms of her game. Mostly in terms of her playing style. Watch some of her matches and how unbelievably short her forehand lands sometimes. Like inside the service box frequently. She gets away with it on clay (hence her final run last year) but on faster courts not so much.

  • Being 5-7' is not the best height needed in women's to be a serious weapon with a serve. But Jessi also needs a bit more power with her returns, specially balls she is waiting for which many times she either sends them right back to the player or just a little off to the side. Fixing her serve and the matter of ball placement with a little more power would probably see her in finals in the bigger tournaments, and likely winning some. If she doesn't, we will keep seeing Aryna, Elena, Barbora and Iga a lot more than anyone else. However, there are a few up-and-coming players who may cause some noise. Jelena needs to clear her mind and lose weight and she would get back to winning more, I feel Camila Giorgi and Kontaveit can also rise, if only they could fix their games.

It also proves my point that Serena would hold the record if she would have done what needed to be done to get exclusivity on her coaching. Many players improved from Patrick’s coaching once he was free and that just made the competition even deeper. Again. A special hall of fame is needed for coaches but great match from JP

    • This comment is a complete bullshit. The idea that Spartak is Putin's favorite team is made up in order to turn Potapova's support of a club into a political statement. There is absolutely nothing that hints towards him being a Spartak fan. People here, in Russia, speculate that his favorite club is Zenit St. Petersburg, a club that is located in Putin's birth town and a club that is getting a huge support from state-owned company Gazprom. And, btw, even if Putin claimed that Spartak is his favorite club (which he didn't) it would still be a huge reach to interpret Potapova's actions as political statement, considering that Spartak is the most popular club in the country.
