After two years, the Rwanda bill has finally passed parliament, with Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, saying that his focus is now to get flights off the ground. The Labour Party has branded the bill a gimmick and said it is unworkable, maintaining that they would scrap the plan should they win the general election this year.

It's not quite the 'one for one' the left wing tell you. What it is supposed to be is we would take a portion of the most vulnerable that have sought refuge in Rwanda from elsewhere. However, as we know the Cons. are not to be trusted anymore than Labour are on the immigration issue, and I suspect we'd end up taking more from Rwanda than we sent, and paying for the privilege.

Half a Billion pounds for just 300 people? Come on Suzanne, that’s not economical nor makes any sense. As for stopping boats, a suggestion would be to support France to enforce people who manufacture, sell or own such boats to have a licence and be numbered. Boat supplies to traffickers will become much harder to obtain and reduce the misuse of them. If someone purchases a 20 seater boat, surely this should raise suspicion in France?

I get what Cooper is saying about the money issue and we've been paying a lot of people (France) a lot of money and seem to get little for it. However, I fear Labour will just lower any criteria for entry, making millions and millions from around the world eligible. More legal and safe routes, just means millions more will have the opportunity to apply and I truly can't see Labour passing up this opportunity to virtue signal about 'British values' caring for the world and his uncle at the expense of the rest of us. Stopping the boats is easy, open safe and legal routes for asylum seekers to make their claims. No asylum seeker wants to risk their life or those of their families, indeed their whole reason for making this risky trip is to give themselves and their families safety from oppressive regimes. Given a safe option they will take it. France have offered space to set up a centre for asylum seekers to make their claims.

They are going to set up a processing centre in France. The French already agreed to this, but the Conservatives didn't want it. Labour will also ensure asylum seekers are no longer sat in hotels by clearing the backlog.

Need to process claims while applicants are still overseas. Ban those who arrive without a successful claim forever. And deport failed claims. The criteria should also be more strict, for the sake of those in greatest need. The UK is a small country that cannot house everyone who wants to come, but we should use our limited capacity to those who need/deserve it most.
You will never stop the boats, the French Navy escorted a boat out of the harbour, forcing a boat to wait while it cleared the harbour, no enforcing maritime law, no captain licenced to carry passengers, no safety measures, no navigation other than a smart phone, enough to get anyone else jailed.
