Mat’s got his hands on a new Tesla Model 3 Performance... And he's here to share a truly in-depth review with you!
As you’d expect from the name, the Model 3 Performance is one EV which can compete with the best when it’s on the road. With dual electric motors, it can put down 462hp and 639Nm of torque… That’s 96hp & 130Nm more than the Model 3 Long Range! Not only that, but its claimed range is only 8 miles shy of what the long range can achieve, too!
Of course, such performance from an electric car won’t come cheap, and you can expect to pay over £57,000 for one. So there’s just one question left… Is it worth it? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!

13:20 about the heat pump. In a fridge, the heat pump pulls heat energy from inside the fridge and dumps it outside (which is why the back of a fridge is always warm). So it’s just a question of which side of the system you want. If you’re using it for heating your car, you take heat energy from outside (or waste heat from the battery and motors) and move it inside the cabin. Heat pumps can pull energy from outside air as cold -10°C. Below that, the resistive heater will have to come on.
So here’s my experience, my father and I are car enthusiast we’ve both owned and driven many very nice/high-performance vehicles. My father has been considering buying a Tesla for quite some time yesterday my father and I decided to test drive the model Y long range/and performance by the end of the test drive, we were both completely blown away and we were both under the impression we just drove the best vehicle available today last night after the test drive he bought one /ordered it. It’s truly unbelievable
Hello, how was the performance difftence of the long range and the performance?
@@mehmetaltunkaya1827 There was a noticeable difference between the two with that being said, the long range is incredibly fast and a whole lot faster than 90% of the vehicles on the road. The performance definitely gives you a bit more, but to be honest the performance from the long range was more than enough, and this is coming from somebody who’s owned motorcycles and plenty of fast vehicles in my opinion. Long range is the way to go. My suggestion is for you go to Tesla, they offer test drives in any vehicle you’re interested in with no pressure go test them out and decide for yourself.
@@larryfishkind5387I had the exact same experience with my wife. Had a badass ‘21 Camaro LT1 and we were looking at getting something more family friendly for our future. We looked at the model Y in October after the massive price cuts and went to test drive one. Coming from the Camaro I wanted the performance. Of course, but my wife was hesitant. So we settled with the long range for the first test drive, and planned on coming back and trying the performance after. Got on the freeway, and hit it. Holy shit we were completely blown away with how fast that thing was. And it drove amazing, everything about it. Feels like you’re driving a car from the future. Went back and the Tesla rep was like, alright you ready for the performance? I’m like NOPE. Lmfao Honestly believe it’s the best car money can buy right now. For the price range of course, not comparing anything to a G-wagon 😂

Autosteer and full self driving have the same requirements for pressure on the steering wheel. Its not that sensitive, you hold it in a way that the system knows you can take back control. If it thinks you are not touchuning the steering wheel it gives warnings first, it doesnt just disengage.

Love Mat's reviews... He's always complaining about the gloveblox. There's a quite clever reason for not opening the gloveblox pressing a button. It's for safety reasons. This way Sentry's mode USB flash drive is safe from intruders. Menu's can change frequently and some buttons can be hard to find though, but you can always use voice commands. Also adjusting mirrors is a thing you setup once for your profile, that is loaded based on the phone that opened the car. You can also adjust mirrors to behave differently when reversing. Have my Model 3 for almost 2 years now and so far no regrets.
Just press the right button wheel and use the voice commands (they work!). You can access pretty much anything on the menu through it, including opening the glove box. Much easier. Plus, Matt never expects petrol cars to hit their nameplate acceleration.

For those who are interested, a refrigeration/heat pump system is based on a thermodynamic concept known as Carnot Cycle. This is the concept that work can be extracted from a process of heat transfer from a hot source and a cold source. For a refrigeration system, this is a reverse Carnot cycle system which consists of 4 components and a working fluid. The working fluid in both refrigeration and heat pump cycles is known as a refrigerant (e.g. r-134a, r-1234yf, etc). These fluids are used due to their low boiling point. Components: 1. Compressor 2. Condensor 3. Throttle Expansion Valve 4. Evaporator Refrigeration Cycle (See link): 1-2: The working fluid (refrigerant) is compressed from a vapour into the superheated vapour region, increasing the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant far beyond the surrounding temperature. Work is input into the system through the pump. 2-3: The superheated vapour then travels through a condenser which rejects heat into the environment, condensing the superheated vapour into a liquid state. In a refrigerator, this is the element which is located behind the fridge. 3-4: The liquid then enters the throttle valve which causes a large drop in pressure, rapidly decreasing the temperature of the working fluid and also causes the working fluid to become a saturated liquid-vapour mixture. 4-1: The cooled refrigerant can now flow through an evaporator which absorbs the heat from the refrigerated space, returning the working fluid to a vapour phase. This is located inside the fridge system and is what reduces the temperature inside the fridge. Heat Pump Cycle: This is literally the reverse. You use the condenser to heat up the air, which you can now circulate inside the car. This will use less energy than an electric element due to the lower power input of a pump, which is the only energy input to the system required. Refrigeration Cycle: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_pump#/media/File:Refrigeration_PV_diagram.svg

The Range is so insane that it doesn‘t really matter
@@kasekuchenmitsahne9568 Don't exaggerate; there are vehicles with ranges up to 700 mi. To call it "insane" it would have to exceed that, or at least equal it which no electric car can currently do. Teslas do has class-leading range.
FYI, the state of charge of the battery affects your launch time. To get the fastest launch you need to be at 80+%.

@@neilmurphy845 Hopefully it can teach you proper sentence structure and punctuation as well.
Coen Kolman, this feature is already in most regular cars.
That's some cool 1980s tech.
The principle of heating pumps is that you use compression and expansion to increase or decrease the temperature of a heating medium (typically a HFC-solution) more than the ambient temperature would. Basically, you have a closed loop, filled with HFC. Part of that, called an evaporator, has a very low pressure, which means that the HFC will boil and become a gas at very low temperatures. In this stage, the HFC absorbs heat. Then, the HFC passes a compressor. This increases the pressure, which both increases the temperature of the HFC, and turns it back into a fluid. Now, the hot HFC passes into a part called the condenser, where it drains its heat into the environment. Finally, the now chilled HFC passes into an expansion valve, where it drops in temperature and returns to a gaseous for due to lower pressure. Then the cycle repeats. Depending on what you want to do, you place the evaporator and the condenser on different parts of your system. If the evaporator is inside, and the condenser is outside, you'll cool what's inside. It's a fridge. If the evaporator is outside and the condenser is inside, you'll heat what's inside. It's a heating pump. There's your basic breakdown of compressor technology for you, Mat!

Great review Matt! Spot on as always! And what a car it has become
Something like a reverse refrigerator? Start by looking up "Peltier chips", they can be used for heating, reverse the polarity and now they cool, very cold in fact. And you can also use them to turn heat into electricity. And the nice bit about them is you can buy them starting at under $3 Canadian for the 12v 3amp models and they make bigger ones as well. You will find them in coolers that can also keep food warm by plugging them into your lighter socket. That's the first thing that comes to mine anyway. If you are in a pinch you can make a fridge from Styrofoam Gorilla Glue and a couple of heat sinks using this chip and it gets cold! Takes about 20 min to build and is handy when your fridge breaks down or you are camping, don't reverse the polarity though or your fridge will melt.
You are a super actor...it’s delightful watching your demos... you can make hilarious comic movies on youtube - web series. Great sense of humor blended with information - infotainment.

You can control everything with your voice in a Tesla, I was worried about being distracted but using the voice commands you can activate or adjust pretty much anything.
Normal heating takes 1kWh battery energy and turns it into 1kWh heat. Heat pump uses energy to separate air into cool and hot air through compression, then uses ambient temperature to warm up the cool part and then repeat again. So the energy from ambient warmth and battery is used to heat up the cabin. So 1kWh from battery makes maybe 3kWh heat in the cabin, and takes 2kWh from the air. So it has about a 300% efficiency.
I love how honest you are about the car. I'm glad you aren't a diehard Tesla fanboy that ignores every bad aspect. It's okay to be a fanboy that critiques the car you love. Critiquing the car is what leads to a better Model 3 being produced.
