Real and unedited thoughts on the Shimano SLX DC 150 Baitcaster and SLX Rod
I went bank fishing at a new pond and got skunked, so I decided to give my real thoughts on the new Shimano SLX DC 150 I just purchased. It's an amazing reel (at least the best reel I have ever owned) and would highly recommend it. I mean if you are a beginner fisherman like me, it's quite an investment in this reel, but I think it is worth it after using it. I had bought a Lew Crush combo and it was decent, but after using the Shimano reel and rod, it will be hard for me to go back to my Lews. Anyway, I hope this helps you decide if you are considering a new rod and reel.

If you set it correctly you won't have a backlash or need your thump. Hence why they made DC reels... 🤦🏽♂️.. You set the spool tension just enough to stop the side to side play on the spool..

U have to thumb on anything setting lower then 4 .
I only use the braid setting and I don’t typically have to thumb at all. Now that I have used it for months I tend to only thumb to stop the reel if I have casted too far.
Harold Morgan you shouldn’t have to thumb anything with a dc reel maybe you didn’t adjust then tension knob correctly ? You adjust based off the movement of the spool not the lure like a normal baitcaster.
CptCSharp you know funny you mention the tension knob...I completely forgot about that adjustment on the reel until a month ago. I guess I was so caught up on the dc aspect. When I made this video I’d only had the reel for a few days and was still getting used to it. I haven’t birdnested but a few times since then and even those are extremely minor. I haven’t had to cut the line like I used to have to do with some really bad bird nests with other reels😀
@@c2l1e6 today was the 1st day using it and I still thumb it .. also I use braid and cast on the 1st setting
Pretty sure it’s level 3 for braid. That’s probably why you had the small birds nest
