3 Ways To Setup Soft Beads For Winter Steelhead Fishing | Float Fishing Or Drift Fishing
Today i'm covering 3 ways to peg soft beads for Winter steelhead, salmon, and trout fishing. Fishing with beads whether hard beads or soft beads has proven to be a very effective steelhead fishing technique when fished correctly with the right steelhead fishing setup.
This soft bead setup works great for float fishing with a bobber, or used as a drift fishing rig. Either way, regardless of whether you are bank fishing for steelhead or fishing from a boat, this bead fishing setup is a must-know.
I will cover the whole setup in another video so you can see this steelhead fishing rig start to finish, as well as some other winter steelhead fishing tips, techniques and Different setups.
Until then, best of luck to all of you and thanks for watching!

The Ethan Hawke of steelhead fishing. Really enjoying your tutorials, keep it up!
So funny I said about the same thing on another video of his! Just hope he doesn't do a video called 'Training Day' on his fishing lol!
I was thinking the exact same thing!
Glad to see you're back Nick
So many bead companies out there with different variations, colors and such. The sewing needle kabob of beads is a great idea! I purchased a worm blower to inject beads with scent. Cost is about 2.00ish for the blower. Thanks for sharing!🎣🎣🎣
I usually just use tooth picks lol 😅 works great and very cost efficient
My buddy sent me a link to your videos and Using your rigging techniques I landed my first steelhead 🐟thank you and I will be watching all your Videos 🙌
Congrats ive never caught steel on beads also never tried all the ones i e caught was nightmare jig and pink worm
Thank you for sharing such a straight forward how-to video!! Very helpful!
SWEET INFO!!!! Love your channel!
Great info.
Thank you for this video it has helped immensely!
Perfect Video
That third one is invaluable to me thank you, I can't believe I didn't figure that out, I actually did exactly that to a plastic bead to actually use as a bead stop. But no I would have never put two in one together, thank you for this tutorial
Thanks for this! I learned alot. You should do more simple tutorials in the future.
Thank you!
It’s great to be the first to give you a thumbs up!
Back at it again. Love it brotha. Any good all around bead colors you prefer to get my bead box started?
For your first example, I recommend using a sequin between the bead and the bobber stop. The sequin, for the most part, will prevent the soft bead from pulling over the bobber stop.
Thanks ! your make it easy to understand
awesome! easy to understand is what I'm going for.. sometimes there's just too much or someones going too fast or doesn't explain why something is done that way. I'm glad the video helps! Good luck out there
I love the acrylic 3-4mm bead tied in. Never have to worry about a bead or stopper slipping again. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reeled in my line and the stopper and bead is resting on the eye of the hook as you mentioned. Never used the T Stops for soft beads as I mainly fish hard/incognito beads but it looked like that holds pretty well against the line. Good stuff 👍🏻
Hahahaha, dude, this annoyed me so much when I tried out the usual rubber bobber stops, had to mark in my head about how long the setup was so that it wouldn't constantly make me have to pull it out of the eye, but I found a nice trick btw, if you bring the stopper right to the eye, where it's stuck, you can lower your setup into the water from that and dip it in, and it will pull the stopper out and you won't have to backup and physically reach up to the eye (especially if you are running what you should have have a 9' plus rod). This saved my mental stability while trying out some floating haha.
I see zero advantage over plastic beads to much head ache and.takes more time than banding or pegging a hard bead
Got these thinking they were the slightly larger Panfish floats kzhead.infoUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU they work just fine. The smaller size lets me carry more in my tackle box, and the 3 color choices are nice for different lighting conditions, backgrounds, etc. They aren't the most durable things in the world. But, as cheap as they are, it's not heartbreaking to lose one or have to replace a worn one. The price on these fluctuates wildly, from about $9 to almost $16. So, time your buy accordingly.
Nick I thought I was watching Ethan Hawke! You could be his double for Hollywood! Great videos! Thanks
I like the no stop trick. Have you been out much yet this WS season?
Hot Chow !
Great video, what was the name of that knot?
What beads and color do you recommend? Manufacturer?
What kind of accessory u use on the 2nd set up on the bead
Big question, do those beats Is float Or go right to the bottom.
The video on the bnr site says tie a rapala knot to attach your hook to your leader and rest the tstop against the knot. This is for under a float. I haven't tried it yet but it looks like it reinforces the tstop.
What kind of line u prefer for this setups
where can we order the beads?
i catch more when i place the bead right on top of the hook..no spacer.
What are you running for leader length? I typically run around 2ft but sometimes wonder if I should go longer.
I run longer for smaller beads I run when clear water. Dirtier water I run closer and a bigger bead. Also I put a Split Shot about a foot from the bead if on a longer leader. Helps keep it down in the strike zone.
is this also a good technique for chinook? keep up the great content
What lb test do you use
It really kinda depends on the conditions and where I’m fishing since I know some rivers will potentially have bigger fish, but 12-20lb is my range. I usually stick on the higher side unless the water is low and/or clear though.
Did you just color your Braided line?
The high vis yellow braid? They sell it like that. There are actually a bunch of different colors available but the Moss Green and High-vis Yellow are most common
Size of the hooks?
What’s the advantage to having the bead two fingers away from the hook? Why not just have your egg sack pattern on the hook itself?
I've been told the fish will swallow the hook if the bead is too close and get guthooked.
The beads used are about the diamter of the book gap this the bead must be above the hook so the hook gap can hook the fish
Smoking beads SALMON
Put it straight on the hook, you’ll lose less fish
All three wrong ways and ways you will lose more fish!
