Weather Roulette! Waterfall Photography with the Hasselblad X2D 100C Lightweight Field Kit
In this video, my 'Shutter Speed Experiment' plan is disrupted by erratic Winter weather. But, the snow, rain and sun doesn't stop me from exploring the waterfalls in South Wales, as a surprise is waiting for me in my camera bag; the Hasselblad X2D 100C Lightweight Field Kit.
Many thanks to Hasselblad for giving me the chance to experience the X2D 100C for some 'on location photography'! For more information on this camera, check out the link below.

You've hit the big time when you're getting a Hasselblad camera to test out! Congrats on having a fun time with such a beast.
Comedian with a camera 😂😂 Brill and entertaining video. Beautiful images. No dancing in the rain. 😉
This is one case where the camera is worthy of you, you are the best.
Courtney, I enjoy the bit of whimsy you introduce into your videos. Even in the rain it’s adds some warmth. Your work is great and your explanations add to the stories of the photos.
Medium format masterrace camera. I can only drool.
Lovely images from that gorgeous camera from Hasselblad
The ruins would look good with a covering of snow 😊
“Through the Trees” fantastic shot!!
9:08 The path down to Sgwd y Pannwr is on the other side. you can park in the car park at Comin Y Rhos and walk down. Great video, keep them coming.
The shot Through The Trees with the very cool tree trunk framing the falls is really magnificent. You composed it perfectly. What a magical place you have there with the forest and the many falls. Bravo!
You fully deserve it. Should be an HB Ambassador. Camera of my dreams…
That you've grabbed the attention of Hasselblad is no mean feat. On the surface, it does look to be very usable - & no worse for wear in the inclement weather, Courtney. The 'blad is an impressive piece of kit -quite the chunk of change. Delighted that you've been given the opportunity to try something other than Full Frame format - well deserved !
Extra points for vlogging in the rain.
I very much enjoy the quirkiness you brought to this video and I love your photography. Thank you!!!
You have a great eye for unusual compositions. Your B roll had some interesting short shots as well. Thanks for sharing!
waterfall 3 - the snappily named "upper cascade of the lower Clun Gwyn" the ruins you found are of old gunpowder works which the area was famous for. I once happened upon what I can only describe as a ghost while photographing Sgwd Gwladys late one spring evening
just come across your vlogs recently and not only do you inspire me with your photos you also crack me up 😂
🌺😊🌺 Thank you :)
I love your videos, you area character... always making me smile! Thanks
It’s a kind of magic!
Thanks to Alex kilbee i enjoying your photography. Its a wonderful enthusiasm.keep it up.good luck
Your photos are gorgeous!
Thanks for showing us what the Hasselblad is capable of and giving an honest review. It certainly takes some incredibly sharp images.
Powerfull brain.😊 I Love your Videos and your humor. Fun and informativ Videos. Greetings from Germany.
I absolutely love the ruins that just happen to be on the path, this would be so rare in Australia. The ones you showed looked like they came straight out of the Oblivion game. Just *chef's kiss*. Also, how does your makeup stay looking so fresh when you've been out in the rain all day? It's magic
How interesting it must have been to work a premiere medium format camera! The camera that fame landscape photographer #AnselAdams worked with after 8x10 view cameras! Some photographers (not me) would sell their souls for to own, or at least worked with time and time again. Just seeing how much larger the image is from 35mm must have been amazing. Although I'm a firm believer that it's the photographer who makes the image, not the camera. Even I must admit that working with a medium format camera for the first time had to be awesome.
this place it very beautiful
Thanks for going out in the rain for us. Fantastic images! That location is waterfall heaven! Looking forward to the next adventure.
Yet another great video Courtney! That Hasselblad looks incredible to use & 100MP!😍
Hi Courtney: I really enjoyed this video. The location that you were exploring seems amazing. I have been to Wales before, but sadly not for enough time. I liked the images you captured with the Hasselblad X2D. I would love to have the opportunity to try this camera. Cheers, Keith (Canada)
Fantastic!
It's like watching momma bear lead the cub through the forest.
Love your videos. Keep them coming. Amazed at how you find the beautiful angle.
Thanks again Courtney for sharing your adventure with some great results with that camera & lens combination... location looks interesting with many compositions... cheers from Australia 😀❤️
Thanks Courtney, another great video with some lovely shots despite/because of the weather.
Try a Nikon z7.2 I bet you would love it.
I always look forward to your video’s, keep them coming x
2nd time watching, superb images, love between the tree's. I would probably spend a day just by the ruins. Great video you have out done yourself, thanks
Thank you for a relaxing and inspiring video with such beautiful photography!
Nice all pictures ☃️☃️
This was a great video, nice images, great subjects. I love that hasselblad, I just wish my wallet liked it as much. It is a superb tool. A couple more updates and you will have a live histogram. Thanks again.
An excellent video and some beautiful shots always look forward to your videos 🔥🔥🇬🇧
Great video again!
I absolutely love your videos; they are fun and informative! And, you are both an amazing person and wonderful photographer. Take care and be safe out there....
Your work has obviously made an impression, as it should. Great video and images. Your sense of humor is enjoyable in the videos.
Schönes Video und sehr interessant mit Mittelformat t zu fotografieren
Hasselblad for me its like a child dream of getting access to the sweet shop during the night... even though Im happy (ish!) with my D7200 ...but soon will jump to a bigger light capturer 🙂
Love the Welsh waterfalls! Looks like you had fun gooning around in the rain :D
Amazing vid, not just great shots but also entertaining as well.
As always, I very much enjoy your video's Courtney, and I honestly am not seeing a lot of difference in the Hasselblad images, than those of your Nikons. Checking on pricing, it was stated it's basically for Professionals. Perhaps pixel peepers might see some changes, but 99.5% of us do not need a 100 Mp camera in my opinion. I do believe the new technology abilities may make getting the images more appealing, but the end result is the image quality, usually in a smaller format, well under poster or larger size. Love the forest setting, albeit in the rain the appeal is lessened, so thank-you for continuing on, and capturing the beautiful water falls Courtney. Weather is oddly different worldwide, as it's cold and miserable in western Canada this Spring as well, and even much cooler in southern Arizona, where I've just returned from! Look forward to your future video's Courtney!
Good to see that you are getting a lot of recognition.
another grreat video great shots love your work and cant wait for more tnx so much for sharing
Hello Victoria. Make sure you also drop the X2D into the water.😄
Looks like you had a good time with the Hasselblad, Courtney, even though getting quite wet. Some wonderful images too and I quite enjoyed the video.
Wonderful video 👍
so much inspiration for next time i go out with the camera
Very nice work ❤ I love it ❤
It’s always so fun to watch you stumble and tumble through the forest! Some very nice images. I would love to see side by side comparison with the D850. Thanks for taking me along!
Side by side with the D850 could have been interesting! Thanks!
I can't wait for spring to arrive to my area of North America. It keeps snowing and freezing at night so seeing waterfalls that are flowing makes me a bit envious. You are terribly honest and I think I speak for most people in saying that it is what we like about your channel. Your photography, as always, is fantastic.
Frozen waterfalls could be interesting! I think many of us are waiting for Spring to arrive, very excited for everything to turn green again!
ABBA, Volvo und Hasselblad!
Just when I thought I’d seen all you camera bag tricks you pull out an amazing camera. Very interesting video and super images. Can’t image the price!
I always enjoiy your videos. Love to see you with another camera! But you are the same! Love it!
Love your video's! Hasselblad, nice camera. Stay dry.
Great!
I would like to see the “roots” ultra wide in monochrome. I think your observation that greener foliage is helpful. I know in northern Illinois USA our spring is yet to green up, which leaves me taking more monochromatic tree portraits. Keep up the good work!
Bag magic from magician CV✨😁
What a huge upgrade since D750 you've got here! Lovely! And... back again to Nikon ))
I love your videos!
Thank you! I am happy every week wait your video. Today you forgot amazing dance!!!
What a camera! I really loved that image of the waterfall through the trees - the one that had the elbow shape with the green moss. Thanks for sharing this. Sadly, I think this camera will for ever be beyond my price range.
I'm glad you like that shot, I was excited when I spotted that composition! Thanks!
I just had to look up the cost of the Hasselblad X2D, I knew it'd be WAY out of my budget, but didn't know it'd cost over 8 grand USD!! Anywho...gorgeous photos Ms. Courtney! After seeing your comps here I feel some better about mine when I think the foreground's too busy with rocks, limbs, and stuff like that. I shoot falls with a couple different lenses - a 14-35mm and either my 24-70mm or 70-200mm. If I had just a sliver of your "amazing powerful brain" I'd be quite happy! 💜😎💜
Sometimes busy images can work and sometimes not! I was unsure about the bit of wood that was almost poking into the waterfall but went for it and I was pleasantly surprised! Thanks!
@@CourtneyVictoria As always, you're most welcome! (Dancing queen! 💜)
Beautiful images, but credit has to be given to more than the gear. :-) Thanks for the tour and the giggles!
The only camera in my inventory I'd be willing to take out in that kind of weather is my Nikonos IV
I was nervous with the X2D and the fact it doesn't have an official IP rating, but it did perfectly fine in rain and snow which I was thankful for, seeing as I didn't want to be that person who killed a Hasselblad camera ha!
I was affraid you was going to swim again, good u didm't swim with the Hasselblad. Love this video., 17:38 that was wow.
Almost! But luckily no swimming ha.
I love this video, as I love all of your videos. The content and humour, more importantly your results. I love that you put down the settings used too. Thanks for helping to make me a better photographer. I do so wish though that I had a magic backpack too. I tried my Veo 49 out the same as you did. I put four items in to it, gave it a shake hey presto! I know have about forty plus items, all small bits and pieces that don't do anything anymore. I think I did something wrong? Obviously a little too vigorous with my shaking!!
Oh dear haha! Perhaps a little too vigorous!
The next version really needs a histogram and ratio options. Then I will buy one.
Hi Courtney, did the magic bag tap and three spider carcases and an old Mars bar fell out, I just don't have the magic Hasselblad touch. thanks for showing that great images can be had in even the worst of weather. Thanks for the vid.
Oh dear, at least there was a snack in there despite it being old ha!
Wow so happy to see that you got to play with the big "H" monster! I will never get to own one of those!!! Hahahaha I'll have to stick with my Sony a7r5! With 61 Maga pixels I'm very happy to have a histogram! Please don't change your style! I love your awesome videos! The fact that you take amazing photos is a plus! Lol just don't burn yourself out!!!👍👍👍
When I bought my first Hassy I told I finally found what I was looking for. Amazing camera, try the 30mm and 120mm macro too!
I have been shooting Hasselblad's for over 50 years now! While I have also owned many other brands of cameras, including a current D850 plus vintage Nikkor lenses, I have always had a Hasselblad in my bag (and always will). I bought the X2D when it was first introduced back in Sep, 2022. It truly warmed my heart to see it in your hands today. If there's anyway you can actually purchase one in the future, it would certainly behoove you to do so! Among other things, it is ideal for high end woodland & landscape work. Another beautiful aspect of Hasselblad's, similar to that of Leica, is its design simplicity. It is a pure pleasure watching your videos. I look forward to each one.
It was a pleasure to try out! I did enjoy the design simplicity and did manage to get it into the forest for a little bit before sending it back. Very impressed with it!
Histogram is must. Even my little olympus EP7 has it :)
Fantastic video with lovely photos. The Hasselblad X2D is an amazing camera kit but and thats a big but way out of my price range ,would have to sell my kidney for one LOl. Thanks for sharing the photo journey beautiful falls. Stay dry for awhile .
Good stuff as always. Your unusable shots are better than my keepers.
Another great video, vey relaxing, interesting and entertaining. I think Hasselblad should give you that gear for free for advertising their product 😄
If you get the chance, try out an OMS (ex Olympus) OM1 with any of the Pro lenses with IS sync suitable for landscape photography, The combination of IBIS and IS sync will provide about 7.5 stops of IS, which means you can handhold between 1 - 2 seconds (some can handhold for well over this and many more have given up using tripods). The OM1 also incorporates Live ND up to 64, in camera focus stacking and bracketing, and enhanced 50MP handheld or 80MP on a tripod - should you require more than the 20MP. It also has a 5.7 MP OLED viewfinder, Live View and Night View to help focus in low light. The camera and three suitable lenses weighs about as much as a party balloon filled with hydrogen. I own two OM1 bodies but shoot wildlife exclusively: Unfortunately, I'm incapable of seeing what you and Derek Forss see in the landscape.
Snowy rain, wet rocks, hasselblad, and Courtney. My anxiety went 📈📈📈 Especially at 9:47
Haha sorry I spiked your anxiety!!
Thanks Courtney. You do not need a Hasselblad, you could take beautiful photos with a Box Brownie. Cheers 🎉.
how lucky are you to try that camera awesome job mate well done! Very jealous woudl love to try one of them out .
great as always, was hoping for some dance, nice to see you had a partner on this trip.
Wow what a camera. Considering you haven't had on loan long you managed to capture some cracking image's. Thank goodness you didn't drop it in the water otherwise you would have to take out a mortgage.. I look forward to seeing your next video.
I applaud your honesty in your review of the Hasselblad X2D. In spite of the awesome opportunity to get you hands on such an incredible camera and lenses, you were not hesitant to mention the few shortcomings of the X2D. Much respect to you for that. As usual, your video was entertaining and the images outstanding.
Enjoyed the video very entertaining and informative, you're fed up of the weather .... you want to try living here😢
What a fantastic site for photography! Very cool. For grins, I checked the cost of the kit you are using: $12.5K. Wow. I use a pre-owned D750 so I'm on a budget that doesn't even think about the modern bodies. But I do have a 80-200 2.8 (two-touch) on it's way. ;-)
An X2D...now that's a change.
It most definitely was!
@@CourtneyVictoria Back to the D750 next time or are you going to get MPB to lend you a D610 or even... gasp, a crop sensor body?
Lovely entertaining vid again Courtney, how long you spend outdoors on your photo trips is always something I wonder about, as I myself have been out today and had had enough after only about 2 hours in strong winds, and that's without any rain/snow etc. Pleased that you took the decision to head home before it got dark, as that area looked a bit hazardous to say the least when wet and slippery, I think a good head torch might come in handy, if only as backup just kept in your bag. Sounds to me that also there might be a new camera coming in not the to distant future ( if you win the lottery )???. Good to see you loving your photography Courtney as it always makes great and interesting first class viewing.👍
If I'm having fun on location then the wind and rain doesn't bother me too much but generally I'll stick it out as much as possible, especially if I've travelled far to a location ha. When it's not longer fun, time to leave. Luckily these trails it's quite sheltered and so we didn't get strong winds but the on and off torrential rain was a bit of a pain at times. It was quite a hazardous path, we were probably a little crazy to head down there to be honest ha!
15 stops of dynamic range?? That really is insane!😆
I think you missed the headline. It wasn't the Hasselblad. It was the magic backpack. I need one those. I'd like to see what I could shake out of it. 📷
With the new firmware 2.0.0 there are among a lot of other things a live view histogram 😀
I think to use a 100 megapixel camera would require a complete computer upgrade 😳
