    • wouldn't call nas old school thought what was in the 80's or before 1996 could be considered old school! i actually think it's wrong how the youngings be throwing that word around meaning something else, when the actual style old school was defined. the big daddy kanes, kool g raps, kool moe dee, mc shan was rapping old school style. Then the rappers like Dmx, master p and styles that came in late 96,97 etc was new school style. it would be ridiculous for us to call the current style new school and define it as such only for 10-20 years from now someone calls it old school. as if there isn't a big difference between todays drill rap, muble rap etc and what t.i. nelly, snoop dogg, ludacris or nas was doing back in early 2000's. and if the early 2000's isn't different from what a tribe called quest was doing in early 90's you feel me.

  • I already had NaS in my top 3, and have since I started listening to rap, but ever since king’s disease 2 last year I can’t look at him the same. Whenever I play a track I think “damn, this man’s been in the game longer than I’ve been alive, and he’s still topping charts”. Most og’s have either fell off or stopped dropping all together (who haven’t died). Every time NaS drops at least one song is in the discussion for top 5 tracks of his. It’s crazy. Kings disease 2 brought out bangers like rare and death row east, but also a sure to be classic in nobody and a big event in epmd2. He than said “hol up, I ain’t done yet” and dropped magic with hits like speechless and wave gods. Absolute goat

  • I was skating in Boston a few days ago with some friends, and as we were riding the subway to reach a new skate spot we met someone that really left an imprint on me. He sat in a seat in facing us and instantly started conversation, taking notice to our boards and our clothes. We chopped it up for a bit, and eventually he started telling us about himself, mentioning how he just had a divorce yesterday, and was on his way to get laid tonight. We all laughed together about that, but he told me and my friends about how how he just got here from Harlem and walked 60,000 steps in a day to get to his destination. We started talking about life. He was definitely at a crossroads in his, and I could tell even through his joyful demeanor and smile that he was going through it. We had a pause in conversation after that, and he popped in some earbuds and started bobbing his head. My homie asked what he was bumping, and bro looked up wit a smile and said it was Wave Gods by Nas. We all laughed and talked about how dope the track is. He said that this song is really getting him through the day. He ended up getting off on the next stop, but not before dapping us all up. I told him good luck with everything brother, pleasure meeting you, and he said likewise to me and my friends. Never got his name, but Ima remember you dawg. This song means a lot more to me now.
