You will often come across the opinion that drivers from 90's and 80's were different beasts, driving unsophisticated cars with manual transmissions etc. and todays drivers can't compare with them. But at every historic racing event you can see that it is complete BS. Top driver is top driver with any kind of car.
I would also say that new generation drivers can be better than old ones. They can get proper equipment and opportunities at a younger age, more practice, better training knowledge, better nutrition even. As athletic performances like running are getting better and better, but not only because better shoes
@ Well, I don't know if they are better than the old masters at their peak. I just know that top drivers at any era can adapt to any car. The practice aspect is not so clear either. Testing was pretty much unlimited in the 80s. Mostly dependent on the budget. I remember one particular interview with Walter Rohrl talking about some ridiculous number like tens of thousands testing km's per season.
pure facts. any of the current winning drivers wouldve been a top driver in any era. its such an unfair judgement to berate them just because they drive in an era of cars you dont like.
@@test-tl8dt not exactly. Given the amount of practice and talent yes, but Group B was totally different beast. Rallies were twice as long as today and those cars really wanted to kill you...and they did. So maybe not all modern drivers wouldn't had guts to drive at the limit.
@@NightwishArena He said that any of the winning (!) modern drivers would've been a top driver in any era. That's to say, the likes of Rovanperä, Ogier, Loeb, Tänak, Neuville... I also have the argument that today's shorter, sprint rallies lead to drivers pushing more to the limit as they don't have to ensure their cars will last the insane amount of kilometers the rally lasts, but even then they still have to manage their own pace to avoid damages and, for sure, to avoid making costly mistakes such as taking wider lines by pushing too much. But pushing the car, I'm sure, is a more difficult skill to have and develop, and that's the modern drivers' most common thing. Thus drivers like Loeb and Ogier would particularly excel in such kind of rallies, as they are too good at carefully (old) pushing a lot (modern). They are like the perfect balance of skills. Would modern drivers in general have the balls, though? To begin with, this is not about "modern" or "old drivers," but about people, of any era, in general. So, some would, some would not. A brainlet nostalgic would say that "they would be pussies if they don't," but such idiots would undoubtedly risk their lives for nothing, thinking they are being brave - but there's a thin line between bravery and outright stupidity.
Kalle driving exactly like I would expect a 22 year old, part time drifter / newly world rally champion, to drive @ Rally Legend! Thanks to Kalle, so good to watch!
Yep, you can definetely see Jari-Matti drove for the victory and Kalle for the show. Nothing wrong with either way.
Kalle understands that this is where put out a show and not trying to race against time.
Well Kalle was in the show class...
Harri: Not smart to win over boss. Kalle: Sideways it is then!
JM competed at race class, Kalle was just having a blast in show group
I have big appreciation for the fact our current world champion is doing this.
0:47 gave me goosebumps...
Latvala is so nice he used his turn signals 0:11
❤😂❤
😂🙏😁😂😂😂
Ultimate rally driving flex
Visti dal vivo, impressionanti i passaggi di entrambi🔥🔝
These two would've made a great Initial D battle, with their different driving styles
2 of my favourite cars, yes quite in todays comparsion. But in their day very fast, my real favourite is the older Celica 165... Great clip thanks for sharing 🍾👍
Fajnie zestawiłeś ich przejazdy.
Latvala ha dato davvero spettacolo!
Jari-Matti Latvala drives to win, while Kalle Rovanperä drives to entertain the crowd and himself. Besides, he gave the manager a chance. If Kalle hadn't made donuts and drifted, he would have won by far. Too bad to outclass the boss...... 👏👍 🤘😜😁
He wouldn't have won because he was starting within untimed "STAR" category, only for show. JML won the timed "CLASSIC" category.
@@Ariskot007 Yes, I know that, but if times had been taken on all drivers, it would probably have resulted in a win for Kalle. 😁
That turn signal🤣
Kalle and JM drove in different classes. Kalle drove in showmens class and JM drove in competition class. AND Jari-Matti won his class so these two cannot be compared to each other
Rovanperä confirmed gravel tyers for the weekend, i think J-M L is on asphalt tyers when stage times matters.😊
Kalle did drifting for 2022 in a supra that's what he's clearly doing
awesome video
Love them GT4 Celicas..
Kalle 👍👍👍
I to jest widowiskowa jazda dla kibiców
Kalle summoning his inner Vatanen
🔝🔝🔝 due leggende
Prachtig!
派手なドリフトの若いロバンペラとグリップなラトバラ😅
0:43 Scandinavian Flick de manual...pasen y vean 😉👋👋
ST185 my favourite Group A 😎
grande driver et grande celica :)
Jari all the way! third slide was mint
👍
Price of celicas went up
Questi due nel dubbio tengono sempre aperto...
今、改めて聴くと、エンジン音が4G63と似てますね。
Let the boss win😃😃
That yellow GT4s LSD setup way too much
Gud damn these celicas
Kale is in it to win it clearly
Latvala was faster tho.
in this event nobody cares to win because the main motivation they’re there is to make entreteinment for the spectators and to have fun… there’s no reason to go for the win
With those donuts Kalle was intendly not there to win it but to make the show ...
@@toothlessaggression1892 lol I thought kalle was driving the red car 😂
@Robert Brolo Boss latvala was
Unfair comparation, Jari car is much less powerful. But anyway..
Two celicas Are something different?
Yes, Latvala Celica is a 185st, Kalle Celica is a 165st.
@@joancarlesvadillo7652 Wrong way around; Kalle drove a ST185 and Jari-Matti drove a ST165
@@JJBruce_ thanks, i was wrong with car's driver 🙏
More fast or more spectacular... that's the problem
Kalle even on the gravel tyres would've been faster than Latvala on tarmac tyres tbh. 😂
ドリフトvsグリップ(^^)
買えるもんならセリカ欲しい🥺
Latvala = Yellow car, ROvanpera = White car
J-M Latvala drives the red/white and Kalle Rovanperä drives the yellow Toyota GT4. Both cars come from JML-Team Jari-Matti Latvala Team Finland. 👍
I think the ST165 seemed faster overall, but that might just be that way because the ST185 was being intentionally flashy.
Chiamate Carlos sainz ,date a lui la celica x 10 min e ci fa rivedere cosa si può fare ....del resto e' stato l 'unico a tenere testa a tutti...da biasion e tutta la squadra lancia al mitico Colin.
co-driver: I have brown stains in my seat.. they smell..
