In theaters this Valentine's Day.
Set in a mythic New York City and spanning more than a century, "Winter's Tale" is a story of miracles, crossed destinies, and the age-old battle between good and evil.
The film stars Colin Farrell ("Total Recall"), Jessica Brown Findlay (TV's "Downton Abbey"), and Oscar® winners Jennifer Connelly ("A Beautiful Mind"), William Hurt ("Kiss of the Spider Woman"), Eva Marie Saint ("On the Waterfront") and Russell Crowe ("Gladiator"). "Winter's Tale" also introduces young newcomers Ripley Sobo and Mckayla Twiggs (both from Broadway's "Once").

    • Barry grier - perhaps it does stand convincingly alone for some, but it's like taking on Dune: many will understand that courage is involved. But courage and arrogance aren't mutually exclusive, and perhaps those who have lived in this City know that even more than those who have been to Arrakis as well.

  • This is such a beautiful and overwhelming movie! You're watching it and you...feel beautiful, and magical, and see the world differently, even just for a second. If you haven't watched it yet, you're only cheating yourself.

  • This was such a good movie, I was sad the critics didn’t like it. Jennifer Connelly can do no wrong. The whole cast is fabulous. I understand cinematography-wise, there might not have been enough setup for the supernatural side of the story. But such a beautiful story and told beautifully.

The film has been released in Turkey only so far...but Farrell's film The Lobester, has won 2 prizes at the Cannes Film Festival in France....rave reviews. We should see this one later this year, and sure to be in Golden Globes compition!

  • Anyone who actually read the book (and it is an incredibly beautiful work of art) could never find this movie a thing of interest. A movie cannot communicate the breathtaking wonders written by Mark Helprin. The presumption that movie producers have shown is absolute arrogance.

    • colinchick69 Well I have nothing against the sick little girl, but I'm a romantic and I wanted Peter and Beverly to be together on Earth too, not just up in the sky as stars. I'll have to read the book, because the movie didn't convince me why saving one life, and 100 years later!, was better than saving the woman he loved. And now I'm so worked up I don't think the book will satisfy me anyway, actually! Pffff :)

    • Iulia M Read the book, nothing about the "living portraits" in the movie at all, or the magical island where the dead come back to life! So in the book Bev and Peter ARE reunited...you just have to read how!

    • Brenda Guzman ...and the book is everything the film fails to be. Goldman drained the characters of depth and complexity, cut their vast Tale and that of their City down to a love story populated by heroes and villians, and replaced the mystery of time and the powers of engineering with special effects and fairy tale elements from Disney. There are some thousands of words that no picture - moving or otherwise - can better.

    • @@stephennewcombe452 aww, thanks! Dont know if I'm capable of such sentences today - so it's sweet to time travel... ETA: @Stephen Newcombe Ya know, even tho the film is a stand-alone confusing hot mess, pehaps it only truly sucks if you know & love the book...or confusion feels like magic when the actors and special effects are both good. I remember going back & watching it again years after it came out... It really is a mess all on its own, but i understand the critics/audience split - the charms of a movie can be as seductive as a charming person ;->
