Lana Del Rey - Ride (Lyrics)
I've been out on that open road
You can be my full-time daddy, white and gold
Singing blues has been getting old
You can be my full-time baby, hot or cold
Don't break me down (Don't break me down)
I've been traveling too long (I've been traveling too long)
I've been trying too hard (I've been trying too hard)
With one pretty song (With one pretty song)
I hear the birds on the summer breeze
I drive fast, I am alone at midnight
Been trying hard not to get into trouble
But I, I've got a war in my mind
So, I just ride, just ride
I just ride, I just ride
Dying young and playing hard
That's the way my father made his life an art
Drink all day and we talk 'til dark
That's the way the road dogs do it
Light 'til dark
Don't leave me now (Don't leave me now)
Don't say goodbye (Don't say goodbye)
Don't turn around (Don't turn around)
Leave me high and dry (Leave me high and dry)
I hear the birds on the summer breeze
I drive fast, I am alone at midnight
Been trying hard not to get into trouble
But I, I've got a war in my mind
I just ride, just ride
I just ride, I just ride
I'm tired of feeling like I'm fucking crazy
I'm tired of driving 'til I see stars in my eyes
All I've got to keep myself sane, baby
So I just ride, I just ride
Hear the birds on the summer breeze
I drive fast, I am alone at midnight
Been trying hard not to get into trouble
But I, I've got a war in my mind
I just ride, just ride
I just ride, I just ride

Just the intro is enough..”Beautiful and broken”.
I watched this for the first time when I was 16, nine years ago. It literally changed my life: it showed me that there were people that felt like me, that I wasn't alone. Lana has always reminded me that I am never alone.
shrek is love.... shrek is life....
💖
omg this is me im 16 rn i found this song last year when i was 15
I was 20 years old when this first came out and I will always love it and makes me cry everytime
Jesus does that for me
Not to be dramatic or anything but this song changed my life
same. I got the "been tryin' hard not to get into trouble but I-, I got a war on my mind" tattooed on my rib. Honestly when I lost the love of my life, I just wanted quick love. It wasn't healthy but it felt good to just be wanted by someone. The healthy relationships I was in were not "him" or like "him" and I wasn't happy. This song just speaks to me and my early 20's. I traveled, camped in the desert, put myself in stupid situations. To me, this song is a reminder of a time that I was able to grow out of. All the lessons I learned. Sometimes when i'm feeling hurt even an episode of extreme manic feelings, I listen to this. I get my cry session over and live my best life.
Same!
No, you aren't dramatic.😂❤
Rose Gomez As English is not my first language, I have loved this song for years without really noticing its lyrics. I’m not being dramatic as well but when you point out that sentence from the lyrics, two seconds and I cried out
Girl, same!
Lana belongs in an art museum

Omg you’re so cool and different for listening to music that wasn’t released this year 😱I wish more people were like you so they could listen to music from a few years ago instead of getting amnesia and forgetting it exists 😫
“My mother told me I had a chameleon soul, no moral compass pointing due north, no fixed personality; just an inner indecisiveness that was as wide and as wavering as the ocean.” I’ve loved Lana for what she’s written as a poet and the aspects of her story I see in myself, but this truly exemplifies how she puts to words to problems I feel that I see no one else describe.
I relate to her too because my dad as well called me a chameleon. I become whoever I feel the safest with and that’s who I am. I’m not a specific person, I change as does the ocean. Yes, I have interests, and yes I have a personality, but it is ever changing as is the ocean and every living day. I love Lana for the same reasons. We relate in that way. I love her music. It feels free, it feels like summer (where I’m most alone and most myself), and it feels like me.
me too
We quoted the same verse ! How weird is that in such a big universe Xo ❤️🕊️❤️
My mother said the same..I’m in AA meetings and been told I look like her…

This song is us all. Doing stuff in our lives, bad choices, but at the end just wanting one thing- to be loved, to feel at home. Can’t get more wholesome than that.
That's what lana del rey has that energy about her songs..
Sorry but not many can relate to never having a home or meeting anyone you're related to. You never have anything in common with anyone. Ever. Any friends I found along the way, thus far, are no longer here anymore either.

ITS COMING
I always find myself coming back to this song. It just means so much to me especially the monologue. Lana is the only singer who captured girlhood perfectly. Particularly for the girls who are young, lost and dream of freedom as well as leaving everything behind. “but there's no use in talking to people who have home. They have no idea what it's like to seek safety in other people - for home to be wherever you lay your head.” This line always stood out to me. It describes the longing for love and a home because you never felt it. Listening to her music makes me feel like a naive 13 year old again.
Did you describe my own life.❤
My friend showed me Lana and I've never looked back since. This was her favorite song RIP Ellie
The monologue is a true masterpiece. The song doesn't make as much sense without it. "I was in a winter of my life and the men I met along the road were my only summer"...Beautiful.

Worth every second of it
My boyfriend is an old biker and right now he's very unwell in hospital. As I sit here I am thinking of all the good times we have had including the times he took me on his bike when we were young. I love this song!
I came back to this song today to remember my ex-gf who introduced me to it. I miss having her as passenger on my bike and just being with her and giving my love to her.
I’ve met Lana after one of her concerts. I cannot describe the energy this woman gives. Her voice is soothing, her words are like velvet. Her smile can light up a whole room. Lana is a singer, a powerful one. She is a poet. Her music is art. There is no one, and I mean no one like her. Not even close. This song, this prologue and epilogue. This is a masterpiece. I just wished people would truly appreciate the greatness that Lana is.
It's impossible to skip this monologue. Even though you come just for the music, you become addicted to the story.
Rosália Ramos I now come back for the story and the song. I feel this in my soul.

I was 15 when this came out. I loved every song she released and was always taken aback by her talent. Her music is as real as it gets. Now 11yrs later having acquired other musical tastes and not listened to her for years, on this cold rainy evening, here I am back on a lana marathon, listening and reminiscing to these songs that comforted me however much I couldn’t have related to her lyrics. I still fall in love with each of her songs time and again and always and get another understanding to her every time. She’s definitely one of the phenomenal artists of our generation.

Nothing can ever top this. No song, no artist, not even Lana herself with another track. This song was so epic, so raw, so dreamy that it made a whole generation appreciate life just a tiny bit more and get a glimpse of what true freedom feels like. Every time I come back to this song I realize that I need to do everything it takes to be able to say one day..."I'm fucking crazy, but I'm free" and mean it.

I remember the first time I saw this video was when I was 15 too (I'm 23 now) and I remember feeling the same way. and I can't explain it, but after seeing this video I changed and I really put it in on this video and Lana and how she is able to turn her sadness into power and her ability to not just accept life as it is, but to make it into something beautiful and is able to feel free in a society that likes to put labels on everyone. 2 years ago I saw Lana sing for the first time in real life and I wept the whole time because Lana and this song is the reason I am able to be the free person I am today. Sorry I know that was a-lot, but I remember when I was 15 and remember feeling as you do, and it is a beautiful feeling. xoxo.

The monologue is EVERYTHING
8 YEARS and I'm still not over this song, I never will. No words can describe the emotions it makes me feel. Maybe because I've always romanticized that "riding free" lifestyle as well, and fantasized about finding my people... people that I would really bond with and go on an open road adventure, having fun, feeling timeless, wild and free, and feeling home.
Same here girl!!
Same here i Really just wana live and seek adventures. Try things out. Not caring what other people say
Her videos are incredible.
I’m your people and your mine. We were all meant to be each others maybe not on the exact note as one another but as a whole we could all be the beautiful symphony created specifically for the defining of each individual note and blending us all together into a sound so pure and perfect that even the angels in heaven cry. As a whole we are all perfect as single entities we are but a flute minus the breath. I don’t know if anyone will get my drift but I can only hope that one person needing to hear this will know that I am searching too, searching for my people. Just let go of the restrictions of society and give in to abandon and there we will find each other. Until then my friend....... live fast die young and be free..... xoxo

Cairo Duckett pretty much. But it’s not without purpose. It’s like wanting love so bad but not knowing how to get it so you exchange a part of yourself (body) to supplement the part of yourself (love fulfillment) that you really wish you had.
Lil Durk when does it become pointless tho cus finding love that way almost never works
Cairo Duckett we and Lana understand that. That’s the whole point of her quote
@@Mommahaiti it stops mattering when the part of yourself you want to exchange (body) has no subjective value to anyone who could fool you into believing you were obtaining the part of yourself (love fulfillment) that you really wish you had. So... around age 35-40?

Literally same. Every single time
Lana got criticised early on in her career because she was ahead of her time. Not everyone would understand the message and storytelling in this song but not everyone needs to. She creates art from ride to arcadia. It’s not something that’d go viral on tiktok and then be forgotten. Her art is timeless and it’ll be appreciated for decades to come.
Yeahh , so accurate
No, she got criticised because some of her live shows went off key. She was flat and so radio shows were reluctant to have her for a while, for fear of a poor performance. Not hating, I love her songs, just stating the reason why she was criticised a lot back then.
honestly, i like the vibe of some of her songs, but i feel very sorry for the life she had and i don't think it should be seen in a chromatic or pretty way. Evidently, she was drugged, looking for relationships with several men and freedom at any cost, due to problems in her life that she couldn't solve. It's sad to see the direction her life has taken, as well as that of many... There's nothing so beautiful and poetic about it, just a girl who got lost.
Arcadia is so timeless and captivating and makes me feel so much

tony costanzo ....what
A contralto is a type of classical female singing voice whose vocal range is the lowest female voice type. The contralto’s vocal range is fairly rare; similar to, but different from the alto, and almost identical to that of a countertenor. The contralto voice type is generally divided into the coloratura, lyric, and dramatic contralto.

TØP Lannister don’t let your demons eat you. You’re stronger than that. Pain is temporary, life is the longest thing you’ll ever experience. Savour it. Make it last, make it mean something. There is no “end it all”. Ending isn’t beautiful it’s broken, it’s an abyss. Andige gets tough, but through it all, through everything, there is something to look for. Life is beautiful. And painful. And that’s why it’s so great. Don’t let your demons drown you. Learn to swim above them. I promise, nothing will ever be worth ending your life for.

You really understand her music this is exactly how I feel all my insecurities surface but I feel link I'm embracing them x
Beautifully put and exactly on point. ❤❤❤
There’s no use in talking to people who have a home…. The entire mantra of this dialogue and song is what I’ve been going through for years.
Still, 11 years later this will always make me tear up. The monologue is so meaningful as Lana pours out her heart and the meaning of this song will always have a toll on me. I love you Lana and you will always have a place in my heart ❤️
Four years on this is still as amazing as the first time I saw it.
this song has such a fatality in it, it´s awesome
Roland Baldwin there is truly nothing like it. I don't understand why more people dont know of it

Roland Baldwin s
This is a life's story, maybe mine...
She speaks to the emptiness we hide deep inside ourselves beneath all the layers of happiness and joy we show to the world. Its like lying on the bed at 3 am staring at the ceiling and a hot tear flows from the side of your eye on the pillow .then you take a deep breath and pull yourself back again and fake it all over...again.
I feel the same..
That sounds quite miserable. I lived many years in sadness and depression. I never hid it . But now it’s so freeing to be happy and appreciate life .
I fake every day..... Every single day. I fake my feelings and emotions.
I love your words! We are empathes.
It seems you're excellent at writing crux of Lana's mellifluous arts!
THIS SONG NEVER GET OLD
The way she’s made her life into a work of art 😢😢
