  • I love stories like Bowyer’s retold many years after that tells you something about the player, the set up and the background that I didn’t know. Always thought Bowyer as a bit of a thug but you can’t deny the passion of the man and his soul is clearly stamped with the irons of west ham⚒

    • He was sacked immediately after getting beat 6-0 away to reading!

      @johnashe4792@johnashe47922 ай бұрын
    • @johnashe4792 No he wasn't! He was still manager at the start of the 2008-09 season. (The Reading game was January 2007). This is what it says on Wikipedia (not always the most reliable source, I know but in this case correct) about the start of the 2008-09 season: "Despite the club taking six points from their first three games, he was unhappy with the club's transfer policy, after key players Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney were sold without his permission, a claim denied by the West Ham United board of directors, and he resigned his post on 3 September 2008. On 3 November 2009, Curbishley won his case for constructive dismissal against West Ham United. After the ruling, he said: "I am obviously delighted with this result. I very much enjoyed my time at West Ham and never wanted to leave, but on joining the club I insisted that my contract contained a clause confirming that I would have final say on the selection of players to be transferred to and from the club." West Ham paid him £2.2 million in compensation." I remember the 6-0 loss to Reading but he didn't get sacked because of it.

  • Great interview. The biggest compliment I can give to Lee Bowyer is to say that if I'd been the England manager during a period of his time playing for Leeds United, I would have picked him in the starting line-up ahead of Paul Scholes. He was that good.

    @weedoonsooth@weedoonsooth2 ай бұрын
    • Yeah I’m a huge West Ham fan and I can’t even be biased on this one, absolutely no way bowyer would have been chosen ahead of scholes for England. Never. ⚒️

      @harryhatchet5147@harryhatchet51472 ай бұрын
    • @@harryhatchet5147 It wasn't Scholes's fault. For a time, Alex Ferguson moved Ryan Giggs into more of an attacking central midfielder role. In order to fill the space that was left, Scholes was moved over towards the left-hand side of the pitch. It made him less effective. At the same time, Bowyer was on fire for Leeds United. That's the period of time that I am referring to.
