  • When Sam explains that this song feels like hiking to the mountain top, I got goosebumbs. It literally how it felt. This song provide stories, with closure. At some point of the song, it indeed made you feels like you are on top of the mountain looking at a sunrise. after all the hardships and challenges. and you know it was all worth it. Whats more humane for me is that at the end, IU sang about "But still sometimes there will be days that I lose from my life. Even if I get lost again, I know my way back". This line is very empowering in a sense that... its a very normal thing to felt down (going back to back habit) when life hits you hard, but the next time it happened, you know better on how to navigate life.

His music approach is by theory and by standards that don't define universal understanding what so ever (also ours can't do that). Even so, we can learn by discussing this differ views and complementing each others. As art and a form of communication, music isn't universal, is just and other language that we are always learning how to hear. We borrow each others our ears and our emotions when we discuss and reach others opinions and interpretations of music and that's what is beautiful about reacttothek and Internet in general 💞

  • IU has this telling a story kind of singing. Full of emotions. It might sound theatrical because it sort of her telling her experiences, her journey, her story as an artist. The loneliness, the ups and downs, the criticism, the self hate, the love and support by her loved ones and how she reached where she is and in the end how she love herself. Shes full of self love now at the end of her 20s. Just gotta love her.. her voice really gets to u.

  • I feel this is why it's important to know and understand the lyrics, context and story behind a piece of art to be able to fully appreciate the wonders that went into it and how good it is. IU mentioned that My Sea is like a combo of Dear Name and Love Poem which summarises her entire life history of how she hated herself as a kid and felt like the younger and older IU were separated but later on, reconciled. That summarises the large variance in how the beginning, middle and ending of the song are so different but blended perfectly. It's like an intro, conflict and conclusion/resolution. That explains the title, the Sea of a Kid and I. They are one, on the same path with the same trauma and experiences but have been separated for too long and was affecting each other. The theatrical part in the middle just showed like a whirlwind of storms that can occurs on the sea for me which is an imagery of her life and it didn't sound close to cheesy at all but extremely powerful and I could relate to it so much. Reconciling with her past self and saying even when the waves drift her away on that journey, she knows her way back sums up one being one with all of her now (the kid)- the reconciliation. IU is one of the reasons I decided to learn Korean and do so seriously, her words and poetic schemes are so wonderfully crafted that embodying it in the original language is heavy enough, then translating sheds a lot of it's essence away and it annoyed me that I couldn't get to appreciate all of the essence of her art. If you notice, this song stops immediately and cuts straight into "Ah Puh" if you listen to the album. It's like, now I've found and reconciled with all of me, I'm going to be happy, and have fun in the next phase of my journey(Which is her 30s), for me realising that detail was comforting for me and for her sake. Thanks for the review, enjoyed it!

From my understanding, she doesn't have intense training in either so this comes naturally to her. And she's only improved as she got older and has gained better control of her vocal abilities.

  • Hopefully this makes sense for Jason, but for the Korean age thing it's because they start counting your age from when you are conceived so when you are born you are already one year old, unlike international age where you are 0 years old when you are born. And then everyone turns the next age together on new years as a sort of collective, so if you were born dec 31, you are one year old, and then the next day on January 1st, you are 2 years old in Korean age. You don't gain an extra year on your actual birth date, although you do still celebrate it. The way you calculate korean age is you take the current year - birth year + 1 = korean age (Eg: 2021- 1993 + 1 = 29 years old Korean age, regardless of months)

    @Anisian@Anisian3 жыл бұрын
    • A simpler way I use to remember by Korean age (I live in Korea) is just add 2 to your normal age if you haven't had your birthday yet, add 1 if you have.

Kim Je Hwi is just amazing and Jukjae who left last year to pursue his solo career are just extremely talented. I look out for his compositions and writings a lot. He wrote and composed Chen's Hello, My dear, Flower, Jung Seung Hwan' s Snowman (did it with IU), of course Dear Moon, composed Through the Night, My Old Story, dlwlrma, and many others. • She performed this song (and this whole album) as saying goodbye to her 20s and looking forward to her 30s, but something about the story of this song specifically felt very related to “eight” where that was dedicated to her friends and their sorrow and struggles but this was about her own continuation through life and through the sorrow and obstacles plaguing her. And the hopeful parts at the end feel like her just soaring triumphantly like her character in “eight” does.

  • I love this! But I feel that the girl who focused on the sea theme missed the point a bit since My Sea isn't so much about the sea, but about IU's experience with self-hatred and her journey to self-love. It's about taking care of her inner child and gaining her own strength. The sea works as a metaphor since the way to self-love isn't a straight path, you advance 5 steps and life takes 3 back. Just like the sea, it is beautiful and scary and it's ever-changing. I don't know if they get to read the translation as they film, but if they don't it would be a nice touch to add. Knowing the lyrics can enhance the experience.

  • [MY SEA TRANSLATION] Yet, even as time passes There are wounds that don't heal Because I cannot love myself fully It is a sorrowful night The face in the mirror feels unfamiliar That I silently close my eyes as per the usual I hastily await the night to move on to tomorrow That child who dreamt of so many wishes Did she (referring to IU s younger self ) suffer for so long Just to become....the person I am today? Day by day that passes I get farther away from her That I don t think we will ever reconcile I don't think it will get better When I was young I dreamt of an everlasting sea Where now only the faintest traces remain My breath filled with excitement The cool wind flowing above I want to freely roam the seas like the waves Just as I slowly open my eyes in spite of my fear There and then , the world comes to me To become a breathtaking gift That self who doubted so many times Can finally give you ( child ) a reply The long lost memories from over the horizon Call for me In that voice I had forgotten For so long I wade against the gushing stream Back towards my sea where the currents start Even if I am swept away and lost , I can be free Never again will I let the darkness take over me Never again will I pretend not to recognize/know myself Even still there may still be times When life's waves sweep me away But from this moment and forth, I will know my way back ctto (credits to the owner) Original link to the referred video: kzhead.info/sun/f7eklK2GpmN9i68/bejne.html

  • It's a pity that all these people are experts in music. Since they have a lot of musical knowledge, it is regrettable that they missed the truly beautiful part of this song because they instinctively took a technical approach. The true beauty of this song is the deep content of the lyrics and the corresponding musical development. The progress of the music and the strength of the vocals were all carried out according to the lyrics. It is very similar to a musical, but if the musical expressed its lines in music, the song is clearly different in the form of describing life. This song should not be evaluated only by the technical ability of the vocalist or the composition of the instrument without understanding the lyrics. It's like simply evaluating why the vocals are shaking so nervously without understanding the content of "I Dreamed a Dream" sung by Anne Hathaway, who plays Fantine in the musical "Les Miserables". Personally, I think "Defying Gravity" is a good musical song, but I don't really like it emotionally. The reason is that it seems like a song that is too fancy to test the ability of a vocalist for a musical. On the other hand, this song is expressed according to the flow of the lyrics. So the chorus could have continued to be bigger and more colorful enough to cover the song, but the reason it's still as low as the background... As in the lyrics, the calm waves of the vast sea are always expressed as if they were supporting and cheering for me. I hope these lyrics in Korean will be delivered well during the translation process. It is a pity that some translated parts simplified the beautiful expression and deep emotion of the original song. For example, there are beautiful lyrics like this. Different countries have subtly different expressions, so I don't know how they will be expressed. Even these sentences are words that I chose to express in a more meaningful way than the original lyrics, but when I solved them as if I were explaining them, it was also unsatisfactory translation. - It's a poor night because I don't love myself fully. - Did a child suffer just to be me? - I've suspected a lot and now I think I can answer to me. - I don't think we'll be able to reconcile as far as the day piling up. (means that I wanted as a child and me as I am today change more and more day by day) You'd be even more impressed if it could be translated closer to the original meaning and understood all the meanings. Many phrases mean the music is more greatly and of the implications. To sum up the overall flow of the song, it begins with her childhood when she didn't love every aspect of herself. As time goes by, she becomes different from what she had hoped for as a child and becomes farther away day by day. Then she thinks of the sea in her childhood memories, and later the fear of the world becomes a gift and grows enough to answer herself. (This is the wave of the chorus) The darkness of life will come in the future, but as there is always a sea in memory, it will be possible to find a way back without closing her eyes in the darkness. In addition, the lyrics are thought to be connected to IU's other songs, Love Poem and Celebrity. If you listen to the lyrics first and then listen to this song, it will be much more touching. In fact, this song has so many implications that even Koreans find new meanings in the lyrics every time they listen to it. So I think this kind of request would rather distract you from liking this song. However, IU's songs, such as this song and "Love poem," are especially good lyrics, so I recommend them presumptuous because I want to share this feeling with them.
