5 Days on Svalbard - Location Scout for Holliwood Movie in minus 18°C and Storm

I am on Svalbard doing location scouting with PolarX for an upcoming Hollywood film.
My job on this trip is to film the locations with drone, and on this trip I am flying my Mavic 3 drone in extreme conditions. The wind is howling and the temperatures are below minus 18°C.
We are also using smaller boats, but some locations are out of reach and then the drone is the best tool for the job.
This location is simply perfect for landscape photography, but unfortunately I do not much time to do that.
PolarX is a company working with all the big film names like Disney, BBC, National Geographic and Netflix, and it is a pleasure working with these guys - I really learn a lot.
I have made a very long video showing much more about what PolarX is: • PolarX - The logistics...
This is my last video in the Svalbard series - I hope you were entertained and that you maybe learned something.
Enjoy watching.
See you out there...

  • What I like most about your videos, Morten, is they are not “how to” videos. You are taking us on an adventure and it is wonderful to watch. It’s like watching a television show without commercials.

  • Wonderful impressions of the ice. I once have been on a trip along Baffin Island, Nunavut with a bunch of naturalists and photographers on a hired research vessel and met some people working for BBC natural history unit there. It was so interesting to listen when they talked about getting footage for "Frozen Planet", having small time slots and demanding weather. On that trip in the middle of August, we had to change our plans to go as far as Resolute Bay because of snow and solid ice. Some people tried to operate a drone which worked well in Iqaluit but failed on the ship, because of interferences with the electricity around. Nevertheless we saw fantastic glaciers and rock formations especially in Gibbs fjord, one reminding me of Minas Tirith in the Lord of the Rings series.

  • 😲🤩 WOW. The landscape is sooooo amazingly beautiful! The conditions! Snow, sun, wind, ice. Thanks for sharing this and everything else with us! I'm just thinking on how short notice it is to scout this area this close to arriving of the film crew... A little reckless, isn't it? What if the conditions were worse and one could not have scouted at all, or you would have not been available for scouting... Well, I hope it worked out and we will find out which movie it is featured in.

  • Amazing Video Film Master Hilmer! I would like to express my appreciation for your amazing work. Watching your video on Svalbard was an absolute pleasure and I can't help but feel that you have come close to producing Hollywood films. As much as I would miss watching your videos here on this channel, I know the big screen is waiting for you. - I was particularly impressed by your ability to capture such incredible footage from the ship despite the challenges of electronic equipment on board. I also know firsthand how difficult it can be to get the DJI Marvic up in the air, or even back home. Mini certainly makes things easier. Sometimes turning off GPS on the drone remote can do the trick. - Regardless, the images you were able to capture were truly extreme and breathtaking. As well as your cutting work deserves great praise. The way you edited the footage was masterful and really made the video shine. - I'm excited because I'm on my way to see the rest of the series. Have come a bit backwards into the series This is the first one I have seen. Your videos never fail to entertain me and I appreciate the opportunity to learn from your expertise. At least I've learned that I should definitely have been out there instead of watching here :-) Thank you so much for sharing your work with us. I look forward to seeing more of your incredible videos in the future.

  • I think this was for the second part of the latest Mission Impossible which wasn't given a licence due to concerns about how it would affect the local wildlife. Whilst documentaries about Svalbard and its wildlife have been given licences to film due to educating people about the archipelago I think using this fragile ecosystem for a blockbuster film isn't right and I'm glad the Norwegian Environment Agency didn't give a licence in this instance. Still enjoyed the video and I'm currently in Svalbard myself
