5 Days on Svalbard - Location Scout for Holliwood Movie in minus 18°C and Storm
I am on Svalbard doing location scouting with PolarX for an upcoming Hollywood film.
My job on this trip is to film the locations with drone, and on this trip I am flying my Mavic 3 drone in extreme conditions. The wind is howling and the temperatures are below minus 18°C.
We are also using smaller boats, but some locations are out of reach and then the drone is the best tool for the job.
This location is simply perfect for landscape photography, but unfortunately I do not much time to do that.
PolarX is a company working with all the big film names like Disney, BBC, National Geographic and Netflix, and it is a pleasure working with these guys - I really learn a lot.
I have made a very long video showing much more about what PolarX is: • PolarX - The logistics...
This is my last video in the Svalbard series - I hope you were entertained and that you maybe learned something.
Enjoy watching.
See you out there...

Morten
What I like most about your videos, Morten, is they are not “how to” videos. You are taking us on an adventure and it is wonderful to watch. It’s like watching a television show without commercials.
Getting ready with a cup of coffee for this episode ☕
Morten making us happy😊
Mission Impossible, Dead Reckoning: Part 2 😊
That was me with the green beanie carrying the rifle! Thanks Morten for such an incredible video, and it was even better sharing stories with you on Polar Xplorer 😁 all the best mate!
Hi William😊 So brilliant to meet you and a true pleasure working with you. I hope we will get the opportunity to go again one day👍
Thank you for taking us along
Oh YEAH, 18:19-->18:22 really brought a smile to my face! What an iconic spot.
As a drone pilot this would be such an amazing opportunity. Challenging, but sometimes that's what makes it so rewarding!
I'm sure Mavic will be eternally grateful to you, I hope their gratitude is as powerful as ours.
❤ great storytelling, and what a fantastic ending. 😊
13:36 those mountains are just wow
Scouter could be a good job for me, too. Combined with photography. Thank you for sharing this impressions! 👍
Dear Mr. Morten, it is every time a very great pleasure to see your films! Best regards
another labour of love from your Ode to Svalbard 🤗 thanks for sharing 🐻❄
Thank you for taking us with you on this unique journey. I didn't know where to look first (11:20 - 12:00). This sight is overwhelming. And this beautiful light pastel colors at the end. I hope we see this great landscape again in the secret movie. All the best for you Morten!
I continue to be amazed that there is such a company as PolarX with all that equipment and skill.
Hey Morten, I just loved the violin sound in your opening video with narration is just amazing and that makes your video super fantastic. Wish u best Morten
15:06 "... and we'll take it from there" I love it
Just goes to show, whenever there is a difficult task at hand, always call in the best. Job well done Morten.
That was an exciting assignment! At least there's no chance of your drone getting caught in some trees there 😆
Morton that was an incredible film, looks like you eventually managed to capture some outstanding drone footage, well done to you and the team! Thanks for sharing it all with us!
aerial footage looks spectacular.
Amazing location! Conditions most people would say no too visiting.
Wow! What a beautiful landscape. I was a little worried about the drone and those winds! Thanks for taking me along on this wonderful adventure. Congratulations to you the team, and the entire crew! I have to say though, it sure looked a little nippy out there!!
1 Word "Awesome.
Wonderful impressions of the ice. I once have been on a trip along Baffin Island, Nunavut with a bunch of naturalists and photographers on a hired research vessel and met some people working for BBC natural history unit there. It was so interesting to listen when they talked about getting footage for "Frozen Planet", having small time slots and demanding weather. On that trip in the middle of August, we had to change our plans to go as far as Resolute Bay because of snow and solid ice. Some people tried to operate a drone which worked well in Iqaluit but failed on the ship, because of interferences with the electricity around. Nevertheless we saw fantastic glaciers and rock formations especially in Gibbs fjord, one reminding me of Minas Tirith in the Lord of the Rings series.
Congratulations on the Hollywood gig Morten. im so happy to hear that and so proud as well.
Another wonderful story adventure. And tackling those elements as drone pilot. How fortunate were you to be able to go along for this trip and thank you for sharing such an beautiful place.
Great video! Respect from SPb.
Beautiful. I could watch this over and over, thank you 🙏
Man that looks cold
Your adventures are so badass an extremely beautiful at the same time! Love the videos every single time
Beautiful episode really enjoyed...🎉❤🥰
amazing so beautiful out there , just grate to see this Morton thxs.
Such beautiful footage! I hope they've chosen this location. It's stunning. "The most important thing: chocolate, we need chocolate on this trip" Now that's a man to my heart 😂😂
Amazing drone footage. Wow. It's kinda like a badass commercial for DJI. Always fly into the wind first to be certain you have a tail wind for the return.
The footage with the drone is so beautiful and peaceful! And what a different perspective to see it from! I feel like a bird flying silently over it all. Hope it works out that your footage gets in the movie. Nice work in difficult circumstances!
Hey Morten, the quality of this film is outstanding! It's incredible how well you managed to transfer the exceptional ambience of Svalbard to me through the screen. I felt as if I was sailing there with you! Really impressive work, thank you for another journey! Can't wait for the next one!
Thank you so much🙏
Drone footage is fantastic. I must be more confident flying my drone in sunny old England 😊
Sir i m big fan and forward to photography field and you just nail every thing crazy
Oh wow - that is an amazing experience to contribute to a feature film like that. To help them find somewhere to shoot. The scenery in each place was so beautiful, such an amazing part of the world. Thanks so much for sharing Moreton.
Wow stunning views so glad you had this experience and took us along with you.

Oh my God! That was fantastic. It must feel awesome to be a part of that. Great job! Safe travels. I see your name alongside PolarX on this movie.
morten man your photography is fabulous could u plzz bring a new series of wildlife photography soon
Me agrada mucho ver tus videos y tus aventuras. Buena conducción de tu drone y mucha más buena suerte en ese vuelo. Gracias!
😲🤩 WOW. The landscape is sooooo amazingly beautiful! The conditions! Snow, sun, wind, ice. Thanks for sharing this and everything else with us! I'm just thinking on how short notice it is to scout this area this close to arriving of the film crew... A little reckless, isn't it? What if the conditions were worse and one could not have scouted at all, or you would have not been available for scouting... Well, I hope it worked out and we will find out which movie it is featured in.
So beautiful, thanks for the ride.
Nice story and beautiful images. Thank you for sharing.
U are Awesome man... Highly inspiring, keep shooting... ❤from India
Come to India and explore wildlife here 🤩
our people (wildlife photographers) will spoil him
Amazing Video Film Master Hilmer! I would like to express my appreciation for your amazing work. Watching your video on Svalbard was an absolute pleasure and I can't help but feel that you have come close to producing Hollywood films. As much as I would miss watching your videos here on this channel, I know the big screen is waiting for you. - I was particularly impressed by your ability to capture such incredible footage from the ship despite the challenges of electronic equipment on board. I also know firsthand how difficult it can be to get the DJI Marvic up in the air, or even back home. Mini certainly makes things easier. Sometimes turning off GPS on the drone remote can do the trick. - Regardless, the images you were able to capture were truly extreme and breathtaking. As well as your cutting work deserves great praise. The way you edited the footage was masterful and really made the video shine. - I'm excited because I'm on my way to see the rest of the series. Have come a bit backwards into the series This is the first one I have seen. Your videos never fail to entertain me and I appreciate the opportunity to learn from your expertise. At least I've learned that I should definitely have been out there instead of watching here :-) Thank you so much for sharing your work with us. I look forward to seeing more of your incredible videos in the future.
Hi Peter and thank you so much for your kind words and for your encouraging compliments. I truly hope you will enjoy the rest of the series from Svalbard. I’m looking forward to sharing many more adventures with you - from remote places to nature in my backyard. See you out there 😊
❤
Great watch :-)
Absolutely stunning views. Thanks for sharing with us this beautiful adventure.
Beautiful! More so, because I probably will never have a chance of being there!
Absolutely superb, magnificent video Morten. John Pouw NZ

just wow Morten, just WOW!
Another fantastic video Morten! Thank you for sharing this excursion with us all. It's amazing how much beauty there is in nature especially in the landscapes untouched my man. Safe travels on your next journey!
How cool would that be to watch a movie that you helped scout the location for!? I thought it was funny when he said the chocolate was the most important thing to bring. 😂 At least you don't have to worry about it melting.
Truly incredible shots! That whole landscape looks like a fantasy world!
Interesting Video, great Drone coverage, I wish you well in your endeavours. Keep well, keep warm & stay safe 👍🇬🇧
Wow! What a wonderful first view of such a beautiful place. Thanks for enduring the cold and difficult working conditions to produce this.
Wow Morten, This was flat out amazing. That last footage was absolutely stunning. Hope this all works out for the movie and it sure looks like it should!!

Thank you for another amazing story. Such a beautiful place!! I always have great respect for support staff of these extreme conditions. looking forward to whatever BBC is making. Yes, chocolate is the most important thing. I do cold water dive and always have chocolate bar in my dive bag. 😋
And the Academy Award goes to Morten Hilmer for spectacular drone footage.

Amazing to witness this your adventure. Beautiful footage of Svalbard. Loved every minute of this!
Thank you for sharing your amazing trip with us. Incredible landscapes and beautiful scenery.
Thanks Morten for another amazing episode at this beautiful location. It was good to see the drone operating so well in such cold weather.(once the interference was paused 😃) The outcome was some stunning views . Well done again,
What an incredible adventure! Such beautiful scenery.
Wow, what an interesting adventure. You captured gorgeous scenery with your drone. They are lucky that had you to pilot your drone in those very challenging conditions. Thanks for sharing such an awesome experience.
Wow fabulous, what an incredible experience, thank you for bringing us along!!!
Absolutely wonderful, Will have to watch again! Great job Morten.
Thank you for sharing - stay safe
So cool !!!
Another great video of another great adventure!!
Always happy that you never disappoint from your content ❤
I think this was for the second part of the latest Mission Impossible which wasn't given a licence due to concerns about how it would affect the local wildlife. Whilst documentaries about Svalbard and its wildlife have been given licences to film due to educating people about the archipelago I think using this fragile ecosystem for a blockbuster film isn't right and I'm glad the Norwegian Environment Agency didn't give a licence in this instance. Still enjoyed the video and I'm currently in Svalbard myself
Stunning footage Morten.
What a fun video to watch. Very interesting watching you tackle a different type of project!
Beautiful
Magic
Great scenery & congrats for getting that drone up. Another great video young sir. 👏👏👏👏
Not a fan of cold but wow amazing scenery I want to fly there too
Amazing footage!
wow, watching those winds and how well the drone handled it, crazy good. i wonder how long you got from your batteries in those conditions?
just amazing!
