I really like the owl photo where he/she looks like it had a bad day and now looking up while thinking "why me". Love your videos, thank you.
Love the low key leucitic owl shot the best. The white of it’s coloring matching the snow makes that shot amazing.
Cool, thanks for the feedback!
I liked all of the images but the two shot of the great grey owl posing with it's wings up and the two shots of the snow and trees were my favorites.
Cool, thanks!
They all inspire me to get out a photograph wild life, but image number one the owl and the mouse - WOW
Nice! Glad to inspire, get out there!
The images were superb, but the one with the backlit bear cub and mum was just something else.
Thank you!
Holy Moly Steve Matheis they were awesome images 😳. I love that spider pic 😀 a tiny but mighty little spider looking to take on what nature throws at it after a hard winters snow 🙂 lookin for a meal in a still frozen landscape, I hope it found something . The landscape pics especially the monochrome one with dark cloud, mountain and streaks of light across the meadow 😮 totally stunning 😀. The abstract aspens in snowstorm is fabulous 😊. Those Great Grey owls though 🤗 no wonder you love them, powerfully magnificent birds 😎 they are my favourites especially the one head on taking off with the orangey background 😁, the dark image of the one about to take off with wings at different angles is just awesome 😎, and that close up head shot with the blood on its beak is just such a powerful image and conveys the full power and savage nature of the bird 🤗👍. Amazing images indeed 😀👍.
Thanks 🙏 appreciate the feedback
I did notice the blood on the owls beak, that's awesome. I liked the owl on the branch, with it's wings raised the best, elk in the back light with foggy breath second. Enjoyed them all.
Cool thanks for the feedback👍
Blondie in the flowers , and for cuteness, the cub standing in front of its mom. Your images bring an inter peace to me Thank you
Great, thanks for your comment!
Though the owls are really cool, my favorite is the elk with the fog of his breath.
Thanks for the feedback!
Great photos, like them all. Favorites are the great grey owl with the wings at 90 degrees, the owl leaving the perch and the grizzly walking toward you in the snow.
Thanks for the feedback!
Great stuff Steve
I liked the retrospective. For me, I really liked the photo of Blonde in the yellow flowers. Thank you!
Cool, thanks for the feedback!
Great Set Of Images !
It’s tough to pick a favourite, they’re all extremely good. I loved the back lit bear shots, the back lit elk and the GGO telling the time with his wings. The final portrait with the blood is stunning too. Arrgh! Can’t choose!
Haha, such a tough decision... Thanks for the feedback!
Glad I found your channel! I enjoy your videos and your photography. I would be hard pressed to pick out just one as a favorite! Keep it going!
Great, great photos! Salute from Romania
Awesome! Love them all especially 'Foggy Breath Elk' :)
Love your channel and your work!
👍
I love this photo! Worked out great
They're all outstanding photos for different reasons, but the spider pic is my favorite. Totally unique. Thanks for sharing!
lol, thanks for watching!
Loved the photos!!!
Great photos!!!! Specially the owls, they are beautiful!!!!!
They are all obviously strong images. The bull elk would look great as an oversized print. And Blondie in a field of yellow and green must be spectacular in metal print. I would have to say Blondie and her cub is my favorite of the batch. The bear seemingly pondering the thin trees to our right is so very relaxing, that would be great in the bedroom. I am preoccupied with owls right now but it is the bears I like best from this group.
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!
Thanks for sharing your images and the background. Love the owls
Thanks! So do I...
All your photos are fantastic’. My favorite was the bear on the narrow strip of land with the lake in the background.
Loved the backlit grey owl (second to last photo) and anything in snow makes me melt :-)) Also love the photo of the owl behind your head. Kept trying to get a glimpse of it. Thanks for putting this together for us.
Thanks! And that’s a Pygmy owl photo in the snow behind me. Another favorite...
Steve the owl leaving the perch, wings aloft is Just beautiful, caught perfectly Masterpiece 👍👍👍👍
All are wall hangers but I really like the last owl headshot. Keep up the great work! 👍🏻
Cool, thanks for the feedback!
I like the third to the last one? The gray owl in the tree with the great pose.
Yes! Thanks for the feedback!
Excellent year-in-review, a great collection of gorgeous images. My likes would be #1,4,5,9,10,15,17,18....with my favorites being #5,18. Well done, and very inspirational, I hope to get a few approaching your level this fall, as the colours come out and the weather conditions give more mood. Keep up the fine work!
Great photos of 2017. I enjoy any photo of the great gray owl. They are the most mysterious creatures.
Thanks! Yep...
Thanks for sharing your favorites from 2017. The Aspen grove in snow and the backlit bull elk during golden hour are my favorites.
Cool, thanks!
Steve, These are some really spectacular images. Found your videos in planning an upcoming photo trip (mid-late Oct 2018) to the Tetons / Yellowstone. I'm equally amazed and thankful that you video record your photo outings. Great stuff ! My favorites of what you have presented here are as follows. 1 - Grizzly with one paw up coming through the snow, straight at you. This photo really conveys raw power and awe to me. 2 - Grizzly dead center in willows standing erect. 3 - The great gray owl you mention as one of your all time favorites. Just beautiful. Many thanks for sharing your talents. I'm stoked for my first visit to the Tetons & Yellowstone !!!
Thanks for the feedback! Have a great trip out here! If you're interested in a private tour/workshop, please visit my website to get in touch with me ( www.sgm.photography/workshops)
Fantastic, great job
The backlit bear 399's cub and Bull elk are my favorites!. But all of them are amazing!! GREAT JOB!!!!!!!
Thank you 🙏
Loved the Spider in the Snow best :) Happy new year.
Ahh, that spider.. So weird! Thanks for the feedback!
You're so fortunate to be able to view the world as you do and experience its majesty and beauty. I particularly liked the Great Grey Owl in flight, back lit by the setting sun. These are amazing animals and they live on such a knife edge of existence.Thank you.
awesome brother, .i actually pinched that last one from someplace and they all are excellent.
Loved the Bear with the paw coming up out of the snow and all the Owls with full wings spread.
What an enjoyable video thanks for sharing it!
Great!
These were all really great images. Really glad I stumbled across your channel last year.
Thank you! And thanks for watching.
Hi Steve, loved those images! Great to see you getting all excited telling about these pictures and the experiences you had making them. The backlit Grizzly Bear cub, the Grizzly in the wildflowers and the ice and reflections on Spring Lake really stood out for me, as well as pretty much all the Great Grey Owl shots. Keep up the good work, I really enjoy these vlogs and video's!
Cool, thanks for the feedback!
I have been waiting for you to post your favorites from 2018 and for this year. Since it's almost at the end..... Hint, Hint!! Lol We all love you, we want to see more!
3 owl with mouse, 2 bear woking in snow, 1 dear, nice pic!
I have always had a deep appreciation for Blood Beak Photos!!! I will be keeping an eye out for the Great White Owls this Summer during my photoshoot extravaganza! Love your show!!!
Great work Steve...the first image (owl) was killer! Rodney Beck
Thank you, that’s such a cool owl...
Thanks Steve for providing some of the best pictures and most informative chat I have seen on utube this year and all power to your channel in 2018. Hope its a better year all round.
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback!
Terrific set. The standouts (for me) are the "pounce ready" Grey Owl, B&W portrait oriented landscape with dramatic dark cloud & toss up between backlit Grizzly looking at trees and upright Grizzly in Willows. Those would be my "wall hangers".
Cool, thanks for the feedback!
I really liked your Mount Moran picture.
I loved the GGO looking a little shabby. Great work.
Super photos Steve. My favorites are those that are backlit. Keep up the good work.
Stunning images! The backlit grizzly surrounded by the golden grasses is my favorite. Those 4 trees on the right portion of the image make it really unique and beautiful....
Thanks! I agree about the trees really helping the photo.
I loved the last grey owl, the two grizzlie images, one in the willows and the other in the flowers.
Cool, thanks!
Amazing photography Steve, looking forward to this years videos and photos
Thank you!
Love all the bear pics but the spider one is so strange, what a catch!
True, so weird! Thanks!
Fantastic images Steve, I've been following for some time now, very much enjoy your vlogs. I've yet to get any owls myself, though I'm also on the lookout for Harriers, Kestrels, and various Hawks, Eagles and Ravens here in southern Ontario; and of course whatever mammalian critters I can souse out. Oh by the way, check to ensure your captioning is enabled on your posts, I do think this was the first one missing them. Thanks and here's to a stellar 2018!
Cool, thanks for the feedback! I’ll look into the captioning thing, I’ve never seen that before...
Brilliant stuff Steve. Thanks for a year of enjoyable and informative videos / pics. Loved them all. From the 20 images here (all of which are stunning) I particularly like the backlit elk. Cheers
Thanks again for watching and thanks for the feedback!
Awesome stuff Steve. My favourite few out of those would be the leucistic Great Grey Owl, the grizzly walking towards you in the snow and the rim lit grizzly in the grass. Keep up the good work.
Cool, thanks!
Thanks for sharing this! I appreciate you explaining your settings, lens choices, and the story of each photo. Please do this for 2018 as well! Subscribed!
Thanks! I will do one for 2018 for sure👍
Backlit bear and BUll Elk are fabulous!
Thanks!
gotta say Steve i'm a sucker for all your GGO images. keep up the good work my friend.
👍
First owl shot, loved the image and the story!
Thanks for the feedback!
AWESOME work! Dig your channel!!
Cool, thanks for watching.
All of these were awesome! The owl with wings spread at the top of a tree was my favorite.
Thanks!
Fantastic images as always. Love them all. You are so priviledged to at the same time live near these wonderful places and have such a great photographic talent. Lucky man!
Thanks! And yes, I am fortunate...
All excellent shots. I am enjoying the vlogs and look forward to more this year. You give me something to aspire to in my own photography and videos as I find more time, opportunity, and equipment. Keep it up.
Thanks, I appreciate the comment!
Steve, I just started to follow you and love your images and your KZhead videos. By far my favorite photo of your top 20 of 2017 is the shot of the backlit grizzly in the meadow with the pine trees backlit in the image as well. Great light and wonderful color.
Thanks for watching!👍
Brilliant photos as always. As much respect as I have for the difficulty of shooting wildlife, as a landscape photographer I have to say the black and white of Mt. Moran is my favorite. The light, and that sky are just amazing.
Excellent, I appreciate the feedback!
Enjoyed following your photographic trips last year. I love the Grizzly Bear coming towards you in the snow and the GG Owl with its wings spread out at right angles on the small branch. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us and I look forward to following your work this coming year.
Thanks for the feedback, cheers!
All wall hanger worthy Steve! schtunning stuff my friend. Hard to pick one, I'll say the B&W owl looking up at the Eagle, Negative space to perfection there. Moving to the SLC area in a couple months hope to see ya out there In GTNP to shake your hand for all these wonderful videos. Cheers Steve
Cool, thank you for the feedback!
Hey very nice photos ! :D I really enjoyed that you talked about the hard time great grey owls had, I think you should do the same in all your videos : talking about the animals, their life, their difficulties would probably make people realize how fragile they are. Thanks for your work !
Cool, thanks for the feedback!
Amazing work, thanks for sharing. I liked the B&W time lapse landscape, abstract aspens, and the great gray owl with all the head room. You inspire me to go shoot. I look forward to seeing what you do in 2018. Thanks again!
Cool, glad to hear that I inspire you to get out!
You are an outstanding photographer. Pick a favorite, good luck with that. The baby griz munching on the blade of grass, the backlit elk, bloody beak? I don't think I could choose one if they were all right in front of me. You had a great year, photographically speaking.
Great to hear your enthusiastic insight into each image, number 18 is my top pick!
Appreciate it!
All very awesome photos, Steve... and great stories behind each one. I love the first owl in the snow, kind of a negative space pic(?). The bear and cub is fantastic but the owl flying at dusk is probably my favorite. Looking forward to seeing more in 2018! Thanks for sharing your work and passion with us!
Cool, thank you for your feedback (and the compliment)!
Hi steve some really good shots liked the owl bout to take off ,the bear by the lake ,and the black and white trees and mountain keep up the good work for 2018
Cool, thanks for the feedback!
Spectacular images!
Thanks!
All the photos are beautiful, you are an inspiration for sure! My favorite two are the cub standing in front of it's mother and the backlit flying owl. I can't wait to visit the Teton's again this fall!
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback!
I liked them all, my favorite is the flying back lit owl. I look forward to your vlogs and photography for 2018.
Cool, thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching!
Thanks ! Excellent images !
👍
The Yellowstone grizz reflection was my favorite
Thanks, hope to see you soon ‘out there’...
Awesome photography year Steve, I really like how you have such a wide variety of photos with the wildlife, & scenery, abstract & dynamic...Hard to pick just a couple fav's but if I had to pick I love the Grizz in Snow it looks like your going to be his lunch... Thanks for all the hard wonderful work Steve.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback!
Looking again at them all, I like them all. Very good work and I love your channel too. Please keep it up!
Thanks!
Hi! Steve, you`re a KING!
Thank you?
Awesome video, you had a great year, the grizzly photo at Yellowstone was was my favorite!!!
Yes it was! Thanks for the feedback.
Beautiful, beautiful pictures ! My favorite of the young bear poking through the branches, thanks for sharing !
Thanks!
Steve, I have just recently discovered your blog. Where have I been?! Your work and knowledge you share are fantastic. Thank you, I am learning so much from it all. Picking a favorite photo is difficult for me because they're each outstanding in their own way. The aspen in the snow storm is one of my favorites. GOOD JOB!
Cool, thanks for the feedback!
Some absolutely fantastic images there mate. Keep up the awesome work. 👍
Thanks!
Great images Steve, the backlit bear cub, pouncing owl and tree reflections with the stone perhaps but they are all great, particularly the wildlife
Cool, thanks for the feedback!
These were all really great images. enjoy your posts..
Thanks!
The flying Great Grey did it for me. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! I will try...
I loved your photos and your style of photography. Keep doing what your doing.
Thank you, I will...
Tough call on my favorite, Steve. For wildlife, it might be a tie between the early GG Owl with prey, the female grizzly in the balsamroot, and the later GG Owl with the L pattern to the wings. For landscapes, I liked the b&w of Mt. Moran with aspens in the foreground. Thank you for breaking from your norm to give us a chance to see your favorites.
Cool, thanks for your feedback!
Great images I like all of them my favourite two grizzly bears images, backlit bull elk during golden hour and the Gray owl in the tree. Great job thank you for sharing
Cool, thanks for the feedback!
Loved the First Grey Owl near the end and the abstract image of the Aspens. All together very nice. I live up by Glacier Park. So I hunt a lot of the same kinds of images .
Cool, thanks for the feedback!
Only found your channel recently Steve - guess KZhead figured out I'm a D850 guy as well from my searches. You have some great wildlife and landscape images that any nature photographer would be proud to have in their portfolio. Hard time picking favorites although I have a tendency to go with the Grizzlies. Hope your 2018 is better for you personally and continued success in the backcountry!
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback and kind words.
Nice video and some outstanding shots too! Well done :-)
Thanks!
All the photos are awesome . Love the details in the owls shot and the eyes
Thanks!
A great set of memories, it was interesting to hear the back story to each shot. As to favorites, that is difficult. I like the owls in flight and the last owl and the frontal shots of the bears but in reality I loved them all.
Cool, thanks for your feedback!
