A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens - Full Audiobook
A full unabridged audiobook of the classic Christmas story, "A Christmas Carol", by Charles Dickens - complete with sounds and visuals.
"A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost Story of Christmas", commonly known as A Christmas Carol, is a novella by Charles Dickens, first published in London by Chapman & Hall in 1843. It recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.
Dickens began a tradition of Christmas publications with "A Christmas Carol" in 1843 and his Christmas stories soon became a national institution.
Read by Elliot Fitzpatrick.

Very kind of you to say, Mark! Thanks very much
Yes indeed. We all KNOW the tale, from so many versions that to listen to the literal truth was a true ear opener!

Good teacher!
I would have loved that!
Elliot Fitzpatrick's narration of 'A Christmas Carol' is masterful. He brings Dickens' classic tale to life with such warmth and character. It's like hearing this beloved story for the first time again. Thank you
Thank you so much for listening!
Brought me to tears 🥹 the perfect accompaniment to my quiet Christmas Eve. Thank you for this enchanting reading of my favourite Christmas story. Merry Christmas, amd God Bless us, every one!
So glad to have you listening on Christmas Eve!
Flawlessly read! You really captured the ‘spirit’ of the story.
Thank you for the lovely review, Judith! It truly is one of the all-time great stories🎄
I agree ! How perfectly read… brought this story alive just as Scrooge “came alive”
One of the great treasures of the English language. No matter how many times I read it or hear it, it "works" every single time.
It’s a real gem!
it's magical ✨
My favorite Christmas story of all. Thank you for reading it, I haven’t the time to read but plenty of time to listen. I’m a cross country trucker
Great to know this is keeping you occupied on those long journeys! All the best
Hey bro, I'm imagining you on a long haul, listening to Dickens, and I love you for it. Be safe on the road and merry Christmas!
The Scrooge voice is great!
Thank you, Johnny!
Such a joy to listen to a classic book, especially one that illustrates the pure, God given love of the human spirit. We need many more stories like this❤️🙏🙏❤️
So glad you enjoyed this story, Lisa. Really appreciate the kind words ❤️
I, too, read this book just before Christmas each year - it is the start of Christmas for me ! Today , 6th of December and I have just listened to this audio book - an excellent version which I enjoyed very much. Christmas has begun ! Merry Christmas everyone may you have a healthy and peaceful time. ❤
So glad you enjoyed this rendition, Jill! Merry Christmas ❤️
You too - loving all these comments; full of nostalgia!
My favorite video version of this is the George C. Scott version. I watch every year. This audio version is excellent!!
Many thanks, Dave! Glad you enjoyed it
@iamdave47 - "A Muppet Christmas Carol" is really quite wonderful.
Same, it's a great version
The George C Scott you are right is excellent. My favorite is the Alister Sims version.
Another version of this story that I like is Scrooged starring Bill Murray. I particularly liked Carol Kane as the ghost of Christmas present.
Every December I either reread A Christmas Carol or listen to an audio version. This enchanting reading is a new blessing. What a holiday treat! I hope you record something for Burns Night.
Great to hear it, Hal. Really glad you enjoyed! Anything you can recommend for Burns’ Night?

I think I've seen all versions of A Christmas Carol, and heard many audio versions. Although I do have my favourites I'm really happy to find a new one to listen to!
Really hope you enjoyed this one!
Same here. I'm always happy to hear a new version because each voice brings something different to the story.
Could you recommend one movie in "a very British style" ? I´ve been learning English, and just felt in love with all "Britishness". Thanks in advance!
@noonthumbs2644 - "Spirited" on AppleTV+ is a recent version, a sequel to Ebenezer Scrooge's story.
@@Alexandra-xe2nz a very VERY English film would be Brief Encounter. It's very old now, very old fashioned but shows a way of behaving that is long gone.
Getting ready for Christmas and reading this masterpiece 🎄🎄
Hope you’re enjoying the festive season, Julliana!

Just so grateful that stuff like this is public domain and that we can listen in full without a constant barrage of ads. Merry Christmas, even to the Scrooges at KZhead!
All the audiobooks on my channel are offered ad free!
Such a timeless story this is. And im happy to have scrolled upon it, not looking for it or anything else that has to do with the Holiday. But doing so was serendipitous, since my mind and soul are both worn down and worse for wear, and i needed to hear this wonderful story. Thanks for posting. 😁 🎄 👍
So glad you found this and enjoyed the telling. Merry Christmas Mike!
Just wanted to join in and say thank you for this... insomnia here so this is now my new go to "Sleep story".. bless you 🙏 🙌
That’s very kind of you. I’ve certainly suffered with insomnia in the past so very pleased to know this is a comfort for you 😊
"Laocoön". Living, learning😂. This is why I love classics from this era...I always learn a few new words. I am thoroughly enjoying the readers narration too. Thank you.
You’re so welcome, really glad you’re enjoying my reading!
Im sat here listening to this whilst recovery from eye surgery, listening to the excellent narration brings back memories of the brilliant Alistair Sims and his portrayal of Scrooge. It cant be easy reading something effortlessly that has been written in an olde English style? Brilliantly done.
That’s very kind of you, Paul. It’s surprisingly easy once you get into the flow of his writing as it’s so witty and playful. Hope you’re recovering well!
@@classicaudiobookswithelliot fine,thank you for asking.
Not really "olde English." You'd have to go back to medieval times for that. This story was published in 1843, not that long ago, linguistically speaking. Dickens style was just typical of Victorian times - more formal and literary. than modern day American English usage, thankfully.
I read it at school many years ago and now Its my second time listening to the story and it's my favourite book. 😅 I will listen to it every December ❤ thank you
That’s great to hear. Very glad to have you listening!
I am enjoying this version. Even though I am from the US, I don't care for this story unless the narrator has an English accent. This speaker is very good. 🕯️
That’s kind of you to say, thank you!
Excellent reading of the classic tale!
Many thanks! Have a wonderful holiday season ❤️
Living very close to his old house, and locl, i can understand his fantastic imagination and literature!
Thank you David! Fascinating to live so close to one of literature’s greats 😊

Beautiful Story and Awesome narration ❤
Thank you, Rich! Glad you enjoyed ❤️
Great rendition and narration Thank you very much for an early Christmas present. Merry Christmas to you and your family and all the listeners
You’re welcome! Merry Christmas, Craig ❤️
What a wonderful narration. My favourite Christmas film is Muppets Christmas Carol but I’ve never actually listened to/read the story. Thank you so much for changing that for me!
I’m so glad to hear it. You can’t go wrong with The Muppets. Thanks for listening!
Every year I listen to this story and watch various versions, and every year I think of something new. This year, listening to the Fred and Scrooge argument in the beginning, it comes to me that why Scrooge is so dismissive of Fred, is because Fred reminds him of who he could have been if he made different choices. He’s not scoffing when Fred says “I fell in love”, he’s remembering Belle and how he made the choice of money over love, and where it’s led him. Fred made the choice he couldn’t, and despite being “poor” (or at least high middle class), he’s HAPPY.
Yes, it’s a lovely resolution for their relationship in the end. Thanks, Christopher!
You do not understand the story at all scrooge sister dies in childbirth giving birth to scrooges nephew who he hates from him taking his beloved sister, and she wished that scrooge would help her baby but he did not hear her last wish, he hates fred because he stole his sister who adored him, in being born
Lovely version now a yearly tradition 🩷
Thank you so much, Sara!
Thank you, very much enjoyed this while I stitched.
That’s great, thanks for listening! Merry Christmas 🎄
My absolute favorite story of all time. Sad however that the name "Scrooge" is associated with the miserly man as opposed to the redeemed man.
Thank you for listening. And you’re absolutely right. Should most certainly be remembered for his transformation ❤️
It just took him 6 weeks to write it. Merry Christmas ..
And to you! Thanks so much for
Thank you so much for this fantastic narration of one of my favorite books. I have seen every version of the film available but this audio rendition was so in keeping with the original I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done.

I don’t know who it was that narrated this but it was probably one of the best renditions of a Christmas Carol via audiobook I’ve ever heard next to Orson Welles and that’s saying something! Great job!👍🏼🎄

@@classicaudiobookswithelliot so beautifully done sir. Please continue with other books😊

I agree. He does do a very good job narrating this. Another good one is Robin Shuckburgh from The Cotswold Explorer. He also has a video where he narrates the story, except his is divided into chapters, or staves, with one video per chapter. This makes it easier when you don't have time to listen to the whole thing at once.
The naration was so good I thought there was more than one.
Beautiful. Thank you.

I never read the novel itself as a book. But I am very proud and impressed to read it. Great👍 job👌 👍. Since it reminds me of the one that Walt Disney and Image Movers Digital did.
I actually think the Robert Zemeckis version is the most true to the book of any of them!

It is said that when a young girl heard about the death of Charles Dickens, she asked heartbroken "Does that mean that Christmas is canceled as well?"
So many of the things we take for granted now are very much attributable to Dickens. White Christmases, party games…

The greatest story ever told. I have a beautifully illustrated edition which I read every year, and this year I followed along listening to your delightful narration. Thank you. (If I may ask thought, to what does this, “complete with sounds and visuals”, refer?)
Just that I like to add some music to the beginning and the end, and also overlay some visual things. In this case some snow!

Haha. You will if you pass!
Even now in 2023 believing in the redemption of a human reprobate affirms our faith in an awesome God. If he can create our universe he can unshackle a human soul. I for one do believe. It is not for us by much speaking or the power of persuasion to bring this about. Don’t put that burden upon yourself. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit will work together to effect the miracle. Pray for those who God brings to your attention. Do not despair for the battle may be fierce. Just keep praying as the Holy Spirit leads.
Thanks for listening 😊
Well written and conveyed. Amen

The door of Scrooge's counting-house was open that he might keep his eye upon his clerk, who in a dismal little cell beyond, a sort of tank, was copying letters. Scrooge had a very small fire, but the clerk's fire was so very much smaller that it looked like one coal. But he couldn't replenish it, for Scrooge kept the coal-box in his own room; and so surely as the clerk came in with the shovel, the master predicted that it would be necessary for them to part. Wherefore the clerk put on his white comforter, and tried to warm himself at the candle; in which effort, not being a man of a strong imagination, he failed. "A merry Christmas, uncle! God save you!" cried a cheerful voice. It was the voice of Scrooge's nephew, who came upon him so quickly that this was the first intimation he had of his approach. "Bah!" said Scrooge, "Humbug!" He had so heated himself with rapid walking in the fog and frost, this nephew of Scrooge's, that he was all in a glow; his face was ruddy and handsome; his eyes sparkled, and his breath smoked again.
Hope you enjoyed this one!
