Beluga whales (in my opinion) are the cutest animals on earth!!! 😄
Omg Ikr! They are the best animals on earth!
Indeed
+Gwendolyn Fullerton I had a group with my friends called beluga squad I know it sounds wierd but yeah....................belugas are cute
livsantos I would join the beluga squad xD It does not sound weird, it sounds like the most amazing group on this planet

The part where they clean the windows the whales were just like "Yes.Very good, clean the tank.Nice and clean."
Amber Sunflowerz hi
Lmao they think the humans are working for them 😂
@@kimberlina.54 They ARE working for their wealth 😌
"So, the idea behind enrichment is to do weird and whacky stuff to entertain the whales." That's the exact same thing I do to my 8 month old nephew lolololol
Ya look at the opening the first thing you see is a frustrated baluga biting another baluga

Beluga: Hey human! I'm bored, dance for me.😂
Of course they are bored, there is nothing in that tank for them to see or to interact with, except the other belugas.
Bunni Armani yeah but they can’t release them because they were probably born in captivity.
@@Pashasmom1 Studies show this isn’t true.Nonetheless if they’re bored or not they like people to dance and do things for them. They’re mammals...they need some sort of stimulation..Seaworld is just....horrible..
@@its_ezralol seaworld is really really bad
Humans: Hey beluga ! I’m bored, dance for me... 😐
The squeek they make when they are excited is heart-melting. They are adorable. I'm not a big fan of aquariums though - but it looks like the staff are caring and considerate.
Sean Ó Briain Staff is trying their very best to give these animals the best care. But the truth is...they are not suitable to captivity, they develop all sorts of stress related health issues, and their lifespan is much shorter than in the wild. Out of 11 belugas that used to live in Mystic, only three are still living. And the common misconception is that some of them were rescued. No, all but one ( bred in captivity ) were "collected from the wild" meaning brutally captured for entertainment purposes. So you are right not being a big fan of aquariums :(
+Olga Pristin I agree with you Olga.
+Stefanie Elia Before you tell anyone to know the facts and do the research, maybe not the worst idea to do your own? The mere statement that belugas in captivity reproduce really well tells me that you haven't done it yet. This is a fact that even captivity industry admits, the population of captive belugas in the US keeps declining despite every effort made to breed them and make sure calves survive. I would like to see the reliable source of information about 20% mortality rate in wild beluga calves, really curious to see who published this data. Now you compare AVERAGE to MAXIMUM, well you cannot do that. You EITHER compare average to average, or maximum to maximum. Now, based on tooth ring analysis belugas in the wild can live up to MAXIMUM of 50-60 year( 60-70 according to NOAA Fisheries ), oldest captive beluga known lived up to 46. It's hard to estimate the AVERAGE for the wild populations but top marine researchers put this number around at least 20+ ( NOAA Fisheries put it at 30-50 years for wild belugas wild span). Let's look at Mystic belugas. Since 1975 Mystic Aquarium has housed 11 Beluga whales. Three whales are still living, and eight have died in captivity at the aquarium. Three whales have died under the age of three, four between the ages of 8 and 15, and only 1 lived 29 years. Overall, that's a staggering mortality rate of 73% and you can calculate the average. You asked where the facts are from? These are from the Ceta Base, the most reliable database of captive cetaceans in the world. Regarding helping wild population, please tell me how holding less than 40 whales in captivity helps wild population ( which are not endangered by the way )? NO RESEARCH done in Mystic helps wild population to survive. Yes, I have seen wild belugas ( no scars on the ones I saw ), yes I talked to many cetaceans researchers, yes I read Mystic and other aquariums research papers, yes I talked to their stuff, I have the e-mail conversation with Mystic representatives about research they do, and even according to them ALL valuable research is done on wild populations in Alaska where they go every summer. There is no educational or scientific value in keeping this animals in tanks, even putting ethical aspect aside.Sorry to be so closed minded for your taste.
Love how the person ( Stefanie Elia ) leaves rude uneducated comment and upon receiving an answer decides just to erase it and disappear...
+Olga Pristin Well you should probably check your own facts. One of those whales in the video is actually 35 years old so well over the 29 years old age you cited.
Most places suck at providing belugas with proper care, but the design of this enclosure is actually really nice (it has unique areas to explore instead of just one "large" plain pool), they seemed very engaged with their training and seem to actually enjoy it, appear to have a good relationship with their caretakers, and have very few rake marks.
I WISH I WISH I WOULD BE YOU.
💙 *Free Beluga!*
It’s not „exploring“ if it’s always the same environment. Intelligent creatures need new things to explore regularly. But I get your point. At least they can watch outside and watch the humans. That gives them some stimulation at least
Still sucks

Really beautiful. Wonderfully intelligent and cute creatures, but I think they deserve a bigger sanctuary/venue to live in. You know, space to swim and stretch.
8:38 Pokemon version: "And if there's one thing to remember: Never splash a Milotic! They have excellent aim."
this cures depression
Ivan Gonzalez it CAUSES depression...in animals. But "luckily" there are vets that give these belugas antidepressants on a daily basis, so we can cure our depression at their expense.
+Olga Pristin yeah so giving antidepressants is awesome for captive whales and makes it ok...lol...no they don't need them in the wild
leah messick All captive cetaceans are depressed, the fact that we don't want to see it, or stuff them up with drugs doesn't change the fact that we are killing them for our own pleasure.
+Olga Pristin I was being sarcastic...I think it's horrifying
Olga Pristin You want them to be free and end up as someone dinner? They cant hunt for themselves since they've never learned to now hush

The Beluga Wales are cute as heck! Their like DANCE FOR ME!
I’ve always loved beluga whales so freaking much. I’ve also been to this aquarium so many times 😂. Hell, I’ve even been for a school field trip.
Next time you go turn your back when Juno swims by he might spray you like "hey don't ignore me when I swim by"
Heartbreaking to see these beautiful, intelligent creatures living in an enclosure.
People always make these about places. The aquarium is kinda like a rescue facility. It holds animals that can be put back into the wild and animals that can be put back in the wild but need rehabilitation to go back.An amusement park like Seaworld is bad.
They are TOO CUTE. What lil derps
It seems the the whales were showing their different personality Juno he seems like he enjoys playing and showing off Nacoo seems like she likes to please people and And show off how she is smart.
Omg many beluga's are cute!!!😆 When the belugas mouth opened it was aggression.
I went there and loved it, but since I've been more educated about cetaceans and their captivity... However, the Mystic Aquarium's beluga exhibit is pretty impressive, at least considering the circumstances... I don't know truly what to think though... Still, my little encounter with Juno was amazing.
I honestly love beluga whales. :)

that's the Beluga experience its a extra cost event but well worth it :) though you might get sprayed by Juno down in the viewing area (where they were cleaning at the beginning of the video) if you turn your back to him and he starts feeling ignored He'll soak you till you turn around. I demonstrated this last year with a group of kids on a summer group field trip and he cooled us all down from the heat of the day ;) He's a good boy

Jonathan. You are one of my inspirations. I am preparing to go and study Marine Biology at university in Sweden. I just wanted to say keep up the good work. If there were more people like you around, the world would be a better place to live. I completely agree with you about animals being kept in aquariums, in the right conditions. It would be great if they could all live in the wild without the need for captivity, but people as a whole are stupid and careless and these places help to educate the next generation about these wonderful animals. I would not feel under achieving at all, if I was to be offered a job working in a aquarium with good morale standing upon graduating. Another fantastic segment as per usual Jonathan and I hope to meet you one day in the future, maybe when I embark on my first dives! Thanks again! David
David Parker Awesome David! Thanks for the kind words and study hard in Sweden!
