Poor Tam.
And yet through the BBT scripts we know Mary seemed to use a great deal of animosity and "alienation of affection tactics" to talk trash about George to anyone ( especially the kids) who would listen, even after his death. I hope that the writers will go into great lengths with the kids to experience and explore and explain why she does/did that and at least have the other kids call her out on it since Sheldon seems to be follow her lead on kicking his character even in death. As a mom, a daughter, and a daddy's girl I definitely think Missy and Mandy would call the mom out on this behavior in front of anyone who would listen, especially when it's happening with a lot to say about it!
That and his final speech still gives me chills

George's character left on a high note. His marriage seemed to be healing. His relationships with his children were positive. He had a happy and healthy grandchild. And he had the job offer of his dreams.
Yep, while I'm sad for his family, George had a pretty good death. My dad suffered for a month before he died.
I'd like to imagine it was a quick and painless death. No thought to what was going on, he just sat down, started his work, and was surrounded by his colleagues and best friends.
Doesn't Sheldon think he boffed "the neighbour woman" when in fact it was Mary dressed up? Started the three knocks thing.
Then why did he have to die?
While that George's passing sucks, it was great that the writers gave him a huge win in his life before he died.

That final scene with Sheldon sitting and staring blankly actually tells me something about his character in The Big Bang Theory. He likely didn’t process George’s death properly, and proceeded to isolate himself to the point where he becomes the neurotic and annoying character that people remember from season 1 of the original show.
And where he said no one was there for him it could’ve been himself shutting away at the world

I haven't watched the show. I've seen so many clips at this point I feel I may as well have.... The scene when they found out teared me up tbh. It reminded me of how much I'm afraid of losing my own mother. My father passed a long time ago, I was 3. My mother essentially took on the role of mother and father. The scene made me think of my mother and how terrified I am of losing her.
I was watching it with my mom, when I saw the scene I almost teared up. I then watched it right here. Now looking at the looks on their faces, and hearing missy say “he’s okay right?” Broke my heart. I have a fear of losing loved ones when I know they will someday die. I’m scared I’ll never say goodbye. And not see them again. This scene really made me cry.
they made a really good show that we got really attached to them. George's death feels like the death of our own family member

That part got real for me considering that's exactly what I ask my sister when I found out about my dad's heart attack
Im actually severly disappointed with the way they handled it. The scene felt so rushed. Like Mary was choking up even before the two guys gave her the news.

I like how when meemaw when to embrace missy she almost lost her balance don't know if they planned that it makes the reaction look genuine.

When Mary told George “don’t be late” and when the kids didn’t say goodbye to him, I immediately knew that this was when he’d die. Hard to believe that that’s how it ended. That explains why Sheldon became the character we knew him to be in TBBT. It’s so hard to handle. 😢
In the finale trailer, theres quick snippet/flashback where sheldon says bye to his dad before he leaves the house in 7x12
Also the teasing George in the backyard by George (Jr.) while George Sr. still tries to give a positive feedback was Kind of leading to "something is up". Maybe that and George not being in the scene (changing ceecee) will part in ep 13 (not being there "why y'all crying someone dead?")

I just gald George had his last moment with each of his family members before went to work, can't imagine how Missy will regret that she didn't accepted his ride, similar with Howard's regret when he didn't give his mother a ride to the airport. Sheldon to Howard in TBBT: "When I lost my own father, I didn't have any friends to help me through it. You do."
Not going may have stopped her from actually being there when the heart attack happened it may have been a blessing that protected her from seeing her father dying in front of her

@@iamaidansmith7542 Not true the family pictures were after school at 4 (Missy went to school on the bus) and considering Tom and Wayne just got there means it probably happened during football practice. Edit: Oh and to expand on that even if he did have a heart attack while driving to work there's no way the news would have reached his family so late. He would have veered off to the side while driving maybe even hit another car or light pole or something. People would have checked on him and called an ambulance and his family would have been notified.
And if George had a heart attack on the road, the police would have been the ones to deliver the news. What likely happened was Wayne was the one to see George have the heart attack. There were definitely people around to call 911. There's nothing Missy could have done differently.
Sadly, George did not actually die in that moment he would have died in their yard and he probably died in the car or office at work

This is literally one of my biggest fears. That I won't get to say goodbye to one of my loved ones. Every time we part ways I tell them I love them because I don't want to miss saying it to them and have to live with feeling like I should have told them.
Its realistic as fuck which is why the death hits harder, its just a normal day and hes off to work you assume hes gonna be back as usual and then one knock at the door and its over.
My dad died of a heart attack when I was 6 and I was in the room when it came on. I remember my mum’s desperate but futile attempts to help him, and her cries of “Ted! Ted!”. Later, I remember the conversation mum had with me and the tears in her eyes as she told me that he “wasn’t coming back”. I know the circumstances in this scene are very different, but it brought all these memories back. I think it was the look of disbelief on Sheldon’s face that did it. They’ll be a part of me till the day I die. I’m 62 now.
I’m so sorry. That is a huge moment to carry for a little boy for your whole life. I also had to tell my grandchildren that their mommy (my daughter) passed away. You never get over those things. Sending you much love and light ❤

I also didn't expect it, at the end of this episode I thought there would be 2 more episodes until the end of the series and that it would come at the very end, at that moment it hit me so hard that my world completely stopped for a moment
I knew that the death would be in the episode but the death was almost the exact same as my grandpa which is why it hurt so much

It's so sad how George Sr. never got to have his dream job and coach a college football team. The writers really thought it out to offer him his dream job in one episode and kill him in the next one. Makes it more emotional, good job.
I think George is a prime example of what many men go through they toss aside their dreams and aspirations in order to provide for their family and a lot of the time the family doesn't even treat them right. George was a good man and I believe being a family man was what was his true life calling.
@thegreatid3595 yes I see it that way too, he got married young and his whole life was dedicated to Mary and his kids. He made a lot of sacrifices for his dreams in order for what his family wants/what's best for them.
@@thegreatid3595 Reminds me a lot of my dad. He died right as he was finally starting to achieve some of his dreams and make something of himself. And it was super sudden. One night, talking excitedly about his new business - the next morning he was gone. This show hits hard.

My heart broke when Mary said "4 o'clock". George walked through the door, I felt like it was the last time we would see him.
This death scene is too realistic. No dramatic scene. Just two friends equally devastated delivering the news.
Iain is such a good actor for how young he is. You can see a pure void in his eyes. The sheldon we see in the future and how he blankly stares fits him perfectly.
In the earlier seasons, I didn't think he portrayed Sheldon. He didn't have his mannerisms. However, as he got older, he improved and expressed a lot of Sheldon's mannerisms we know from BBT

When big bang finished and this was starting I expect that by the end of the show we would all hate George as they didn’t talk about him too favourably in the Big Bang but honestly loved George and feel he should be better remembered. He never cheated like Sheldon thought. He wasn’t always drunk like Sheldon and Mary would state. He was actually a pretty great dad and husband.
They did also talk about how they missed him a lot. It’s a comedy so they focused on humorous moments in BBT.

So did they retcon a lot of what was said about George? They way he was portrayed and they way he was talked about in the big bang theory they almost seem like 2 different characters.
@@ericlucero4152 yeah they did plus they changed things too. Sheldon told penny that the reason he knocks 3 times before he enters a room is because he walked in on his dad cheating on his mom. But that wasn’t what happened. His mom was wearing a costume and wig. It was her he saw. Also he said once that his mom had to leave him alone in Germany when the house fell off the cinder blocks during a tornado. The house never got damaged during the tornado and Mary never went back without him so that was changed too.
@@ericlucero4152 meh, I think we overthink the bits of comedy, since he was a simple man who liked to drink often, and overlook the times the characters showed how much they missed him, like at Sheldon’s wedding when he wished his father was there. Sheldon also described his and Georgie’s relationship as straight up abusive but they were able to reconnect and in Young Sheldon we see that wasn’t what was really going on. Sheldon’s perspective and what is actually happening are often very different.

Fr they did this death so masterfully. You always blame yourself when your loved one dies. When she's done with that, she'll still blame herself for not making the booking earlier to have a nice family photo with him in it.

I haven't seen too much media, but from what I have seen, it was the best portrayal of death I've ever seen. It was a normal ass day, everybody doing their normal ass things, talking about the future, taking each other for granted, not in an ungrateful way but in an autopilot way, & BAM, somebody else tells you your loved one died. Right in the middle of your day, the middle of your plans which you had with that loved one.
Well, he dealt with many deaths back in Miami.....😅

This is more of an impactful way to have his death rather than him dying on a hospital bed. I would have liked to see the reaction of Georgie and Mandy, maybe even dale. I don’t think we will get their reactions just the emotion of them at the funeral

Having his death this way makes more sense considering how closed off Sheldon is in the first seasons of TBBT.
Off camera on a sit com is most fitting. Nest week part one will be tough to watch, but they will end it somberly in part two with a happy look at their futures.

The way Sheldon just remains stunned and sits down is pretty normal in hearing such devastating news like that. And then you hear the cries in the distance just makes it even more real. You're completely detached and shocked to the core that nothing around you feels real.
George Cooper was one of the greatest TV fathers. Missy and him at Red Lobster to laying in a ditch during the tornado George had so many layers. I cried more for the Cooper family than any other TV family who lost a character. Lance Barber was amazing and I agree this is why this scene is affecting so many people.
This hits hard. Not so much for the show, but for the reality that it reflects. It's that pause between "I've got some bad news... he's had a heart attack" and the final "he's gone" that hangs there like an eternity. In real life, in that short moment, you know what's coming, you know what's about to be said, but you can't bring yourself to believe it. It's a surreal moment in time that is impossible to truly describe or understand unless you've actually lived through it. These actors portrayed that moment so perfectly it caused me to relive a similar moment in my life like it was happening again for the fist time. Talk about an emotional roller coaster in the span of about 60 seconds.
I know that feeling my grandpa died two years ago
You know what makes this moment truly beautiful and horrible at the same time is that we've known it was coming for seven seasons now and it still hits like a bullet train. One minute the person you love is in your life and the next they are gone without warning. And this show captured that moment perfectly.
The fact that George said “wouldn’t miss it” before leaving the home makes the ending much painful to watch😢
I was 56 when I lost my father - exactly 50 weeks after losing my mother. The grief hits in different ways, at different times. You do what Sheldon did here. You cope. I agree with many people that he doesn’t read social cues well, but I believe his shock and grief are both genuine. I also think that because he’s pretty much been brought up in a bubble, he doesn’t yet have the tools to adequately express his grief. It shows in the TBBT episode where Howard’s mother died. Absolutely everyone was expecting Sheldon to say or do the wrong thing. That he didn’t - in fact, said absolutely the best thing he could have said under the circumstances - shows how his personality developed over time. In the final TBBT episode, Leonard and Penny joked about Sheldon being their starter child. In a way, they weren’t wrong. Their patience and guidance contributed a lot more to his social development than the dysfunctional Mary and the often-distant George Sr. ever did.
Anyone who has lost a parent can relate to this scene so much. When I found out my mom had a heart attack and didn’t make it, my reaction was exactly like Sheldon’s…….struggling to comprehend the devastating news just received. I can also feel for Tom and Wayne here……having to tell someone bad news that will turn their world upside down….it was accurately portrayed how difficult it is to even begin to find the words, and the pain of having to deliver it.
I can relate. My dad will be gone 12 yrs next month. He got lung cancer from smoking. They gave us an est time of 8-12 months, longer with chemo. So he started chemo. He died 8 days later. It was really overwhelming. Most of the fam didn't even know he had cancer yet. It just went so fast. Don't ever take time or loved ones for granted. You just don't know... ❤

Some years ago I added an "I love you to my good byes with my children . " Took some flack from SI's.
This hit extremely hard for me. I grew up watching TBBT and YS with my Dad and was a bonding experience for us. We rewatched the series up until a week he passed. He went as quick as George did. It was real enough to make me relive that day.
Crying so much from just this clip even though I haven’t watched season 7 as of yet. This is such a REAL way of portraying death. That’s what makes it hit so hard.
I've never felt so heartbroken when a fictional character passed away before I watched the last scene in this episode. I actually watched it today at school and almost shed a tear. Rest in peace, George Sr, you were an awesome dad and a great husband 🕊️

Actually, what a real way to end it. My grandfather died of a cerebral hemorage at work at 52 years old. My grandmother told me that the morning he went to work, he started to walk out the back door, turned and looked back, then went on. That was the last time she saw him until later under a sheet at the hospital. This is totally believable. That is life.

Even though this was expected, I didn't wanted this to happen.
I was not ready to see George go and this threw me off because I thought it would happen in the final episode when I saw the news get delivered I paused for 5 minutes.

I think they wanted to remove Mandy and the baby from the scene so that it would be just the immediate family reacting to the news but yeah it’s very odd that Georgie wasn’t in the room too. Would’ve made more sense having him there hugging Mary while Memaw hugged Missy.

The fact the seen just emphasizes how Sheldon is for one of the most rare moments in his life completely silent as his face reddens makes it a great acting moment.

This scene made me realize that you never know what’s going to happen today, tomorrow or this week because nothing is promised in life. That’s why it’s important to spend every moment of every day with your loved ones while you still can and letting them know how much you love and appreciate them.
George Sr. is my favorite character on the show. It doesn't even seem like he's acting because he plays his character so well; the typical southern dad.. who shows tough love in a good way
I felt this scene, its so real
Getting into a shock like Sheldon did is one of the worst feelings ever. You instantly go into a trauma and it will only let you process those emotions years later. The nerve system stores the grieve and will effect your development for a long time while you are locked in your own dark world. It's hell to be that disconnected. These actors are amazing and I felt my heart strings being pulled ❤
I know it’s a TV show but it felt real they are very talented
Saw an interview with the the show's director the other night. In it he explained that this was for the most part a happy funny family show. Their decision to let George die off camera was to basically let the show give a bit less live grief to an audience who'd experienced mostly joy and wonder thru this show. I agree. Good call. Still a terribly sad scene. George Sr was a great papa. What an actor. Kudos to you sir....

My daddy passed away at work of a heart attack, my mama had supper on the table waiting for him to get home when his boss called and said to get to the hospital...the supper was still sitting there when we got back home later that night. I will never forget every aspect of that whole week. And George reminded me of my daddy ..this has hit so hard i knew it was gonna be bad but i still wasnt ready for it, or all the memories it brought flooding back..
the fact missy said no to driving to school with george is so sad. that would've been the last opportunity to see him and she didn't even know.
The acting was very good in this 😢It gave me all those feelings you get when you actually hear someone you cared about passed away, that gut wrenching feeling in your stomach and chills 💔
The last time a death on a TV show got me upset was almost 50 years ago when Col. Blake was killed on MASH.
That is so true, in Young Sheldon we all knew George Sr. death was coming, in MASH nobody saw Henry Blake's death.

We all seen this coming and it's still a gut punch. I was 18 when my dad died. I was lucky enough to tell him I love him and he said it back. 10 minutes later, he was gone. Love you Dad.

I knew that George was going to die soon this season, but it doesn't make it any less heartbreaking. The Coopers family will be mourning the loss of a loved one, and the future that they could have shared in Houston. 💔
What a devastating scene. I think it was a great decision to have Connie seem to be the one who first figured out what has happened; presumably she went through something similar with her own husband.

I cried so hard because my mother died of a heart attack several years ago. I know this was acting, but, this really happens to people, that's the really hard part and you never get over it because it was a family member, I will miss Young sheldon so much, they all were wonderful actors,
The last time I saw my grandfather alive was on Christmas and I was so excited to hang out with my cousins that I barely said anything to him other than "bye, I love you" when we left. He called us right before the ball dropped on New Years and said he could feel that 2015 was going to be a great year. He was gone within an hour.
Made the mistake of watching this at work. I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I ended up crying and bawling in our break room 😭😭😭😭😭. My coworkers were wondering what the heck happened to me Like others have said.... George’s death will hit so many men watching this show. Because it is relatable to so many men. Most of his life he struggled. With family members, with finances, with personal identity, with kids, with friends, workplace and on and on. There were occasional victories and moments to enjoy and celebrate but mainly struggles. No one to really appreciate your efforts but he did it anyway. Passed away unexpectedly due to one last struggle which was his health. He put everything else above that. That’s how a lot of the men are in society these days. Only appreciated truly when they are gone but not particularly noticed until then. This show has been nothing but amazing. You could tell even during the episode that it was coming. The family photo, the promotion, the talk with his elder son taking over from him, his favourite child his daughter refusing a (last ride). Oh it was coming and it hit like a bullet train.
I’m a 50 year old man that felt like I had just lost a brother when George”s co workers came to his home to tell the family that George had a heart attack. My mouth went wide open and I just sit there in a Daze for a second wondering what was Sheldon and the family going to do now , as I temporarily forgot this is a comedy family tv series that’s coming to a sad ending. Love this show better even better than The grown up version of Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory and hate to see it end.
Damn this hit hard. Really makes me appreciate Howard's Dad even more for having that beer with Sheldon now

I was terrified George would have a heart attack while standing on the ladder. At least we were spared seeing him suffer on camera. It would have been unbearable.

This was so rough to watch because my dad died from a heart attack when I was 14. I never got to say goodbye. It was such a sudden thing. Its been almost 13 years now and it still hurts me a lot.

Damn the way Sheldon just sits there and you can physically see his brain trying to compute the information of George’s death is soo sad. George fought for Sheldon’s freedom as much as he could and he’s mostly the reason Sheldon’s even going to Caltech. His last act was offering his daughter a ride too, who knows he might of still been alive if she had went along.
I think his death was inevitable even if Missy went with him. When the heart gives out, it gives out. He barely survived the first two times, but the third one was too much for him.
