Mark. I was a student during the time when integration was occurring. And later, I lived in the inner city and attended schools there, so I have a unique perspective. As a white student living in the suburbs, my family didn't want integration. Why? Because it wasnt just about bussing black students to the suburban schools, that would have been a good thing. But the schools could only handle a set number of students so the only way to do that was to bus the same number of white students to the black inner city schools. So instead of fixing the bad schools, they instead wanted to punish white students. The whites whose families moved to the suburbs so their kids would be safe and have good schools. They paid higher taxes for this; much higher taxes than the black families living in the inner cities where the schools were so bad. And lets face it, part of the reason the schools were so bad in the inner cities is because the Dems controlled it and were so corrupt and only interested in teaching communism and turning the kids into "social justice warriors." When I attended h.s. in Detroit, thats exactly what they taught. They insisted the kids attend sit-ins and help take over the schools, they looked the other way as machetes were sd in the classroom, they pushed the "glories" of communism in the classroom as well, etc. I agree that all children deserve to have a quality education, but swapping out black kids for white wasn't the way to fix the problem. Thats why most white families were against this solution. Jailing communists and running them out of our country was and is the best way to achieve a quality education for ALL children.

What Mr. Levin describes in great detail here is conveniantly overlooked by today's left wing and liberal forces all over the Western World. In America they opposed SDI. In Britain they opposed the Thatcher reforms (which were important for winning the Cold War in Europe). In Germany they opposed reunification after the fall of the Berlin Wall (knowing that a reunified Germany would join NATO). They don't say it openly but the victory of the West in the Cold War was a real disaster for them. From their point of view the wrong side won. Only few Western left wingers admit it even today. Here in Germany you could see it first hand. When the people of Eastern Germany stood up against Communism and peacefully overthrew the regime in East Berlin in 1989 the people of Western Germany were chearing with joy when they heard the news on TV. The (Western!!) left kept surprisingly silent. To them it felt like defeat. To them the fall of the Berlin Wall, that monsterous concrete barrier where thousands have been murdered, WASN'T a happy occasion. There are of course countless other examples all over Western World where the Left would have rather prefered failure or even defeat than the Western democracies winning. Incredible to this very day. Thanks to Mr. Levin for this razor sharp comment.
