Tom Cruise can only fly multi-instrument small aircraft, not fighter planes. He did however fly with actual Navy pilots during the making of the film. He also possesses a helicopter license.

There's a fighter pilot he's a graduate of SIU Carbondale the home of the Salukis and he was one of probably one of the greatest United States Navy fighter pilots that ever lived he's still alive but he is an amazing he fought he fought during the Gulf War the first the Persian Gulf War Desert Storm desert desert steel Desert Shield excuse me but anyway a great great Patriot a great American he should be running for president of the United States of America he's from the state of Florida and he's a great great Saluki Saluki Pride coming on stronger and stronger
