I live in Ohio now, I'm 63, but was born in Newport (Hoag first year baby), went to HS at NH , but was raised in San Clemente. I'm here on KZhead watching this videos just about everyday remembering the "good 'ol day". My brother and I use to ride our skateboards (homemade) at the pier in SC back around 1960-62. I thank all of you that post these videos. You have no idea how much enjoyment i get from watching what the young people do these days with "boards" of all kinds. Thanks again, and keep on filming.

Wow! I met my wife a few miles south of this spot in Laguna Beach 30 years ago. I remember skim boarding. But nothing like this in Shaw's Cove. I'm happy you younger crowd discovered fun and dumped the TV game consoles in exchange for fun in the ocean.

I'm coming at this as a surfer, so I see that and a little warning goes off in my head saying "shore break, danger!". I gotta say though, I had no idea you could do this kind of thing on a skim board. I might never be a full convert to skim boarding, but I want to give it try after watching this!

What's really amazing about this spot is how quick the waves build up. Everytime I watch some footage from the Wedge I'm like "Oh, this wave is pretty small" and litterally 0.5 second later this shit is 10 feet high ! Great video by the way

i consider these dudes surfers. As a surfer I always envied the skimboarders ability to time the waves and ride the closeout shorebreak barrels. This shit inspires me to push the levels of my surfing beyond what the norm of the surf world expects surfing to be. Don't get me wrong, I nut at the prospect of a nice reef pointbreak dbah setup, but my roots are riding my shortboard on steep eastcoast sandsuckin dredgers. Riding down the line with nothing but 2 feet of sand under you is one of the best feelings ever

With parents immigrating from Dublin, Ireland & arriving into New York City, 1975 with no other plans, than to hitch-hike to Palm Springs Ca & make a life dependent on noeone but themselves... I was fortunate enough to have had the entire Ca. Beach experience & all the wonderfull smells, people, slices of pizza & days @ the wedge, & this video brings with it, a flood of just those very memories. Excellent video I went to the Wedge in the 70s. We used to camp out on a beach about 10 miles away and then go for it . I can remember a 12 foot day hundreds of people and photographers. I’m a body surfer and I took off on one of the set waves and remember I was vertical dropping and dropping and made it. I really like it when the conditions of the waves are like in your your video. Perfect tubes on the inside body whomping 😎👍

I grew up at this spot. When its big, the Wedge puts out some of the most hollow shore pound in the world. Riding in the barrel for 5 seconds after it closes out on you with only an inch of water under you is surreal. Then there is the crowd yelling constantly on big days.
