Scotty, I am seeing very concerning complaints on nhtsa dot gov website about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL issues with cars speeding on their own. Can you please do a video on this, this is very concerning, especially with cars after 2013.....
The only thing I do not like is there is no way to check or change the transmission fluid.
Actually unlike most current automatic transmissions there is a dipstick. A couple minutes to unscrew the air box free and you will find the dipstick on top of the transmission.
Plus there is a drain plug on the bottom of the transmission that I believe gets out about 5 quarts
Scotty I am looking to buy a CX-5 in Germany, turbo Diesel w/manual transmission. What do you think about the German CX-5?
I bought a used 2020 CX-5 in 2022 with 25k miles. Absolutely love the car. Put 30k miles on it. Just basic maintenance. No problems. Drove it all over the US, from tropics to mountains to desert. Was a champ. Enough room for people and lots of luggage. Highway mileage was 30+ with full car, cruising at 75. Safe, reliable, fun to drive, and good-looking. Very happy with my purchase.
Does it let you lock the doors if you're outside while it's running? My 2014 CX-5 annoys the hell out of me for several reasons.
I have a 2010 Mazda 3 2.5l with almost 200k. Japanese vehicles are amazing. Thanks for your input Scotty. We love you man. You deserve all the riches!
We recently bought a non turbo CX-50 and so far we are very happy with it. Made a the joint Toyota factory in Alabama. No Start/Stop, non turbo, No CVT were big sales points.
Research these CX-5's online and you'll find near universal praise. Everyone who owns them seems to love them. Most everyone is just amazed that Mazda doesn't sell more than they do. There's very little negative written about these cars. In today's polarized internet environment, where everyone likes to criticize anything and everything, that says ALOT about these vehicles.
I'm currently owning a 2017 CX-5 awd, the space is on the smaller side of the compact SUV and doesn't get really good MPG compare to other vehicles in its class. That being said, the build quality and styling is really good. Lots of working room (for non-turbo) underneath the hood for parts replacement in the future as well.
The CX-50 is better.
You make a good point about all the self-serving clowns who “know anything & everything”. These people will never research anything for themselves, and why should they since they already KNOW EVERYTHING??!!
@@randy74989 Since CX-50 is made in Alabama, time will tell how well it ages. Hopefully Mazda engineering and quality control shine through. It is a VERY nice vehicle. It almost seems to be more of an upscale outdoorsy Subaru / baby Rover competitor than a road going near premium SUV like CX-5. I have sat in them and they are really impressive inside. The outside I think might be a little to "rugged" looking for some. Hopefully a redsigned CX-5 comes. It is their bread and butter right vehicle right now. Or, maybe the soon to be revealed CX-70 takes the CX-5's place in the line up. Time and it's size will tell.
I just got a 2024 CX5 and the build quality is top notch. The interior is near luxury
Please leave your engine shrouds in place folks .they direct air flow and dampen noises..so are actually functional.
The CX-5 has real independent suspension as well. The CX-30 has torsion beam. CX-5 also has better visibility with bigger windows and a lower belt-line. CX-5 all day
Great observation.
It's a big price difference on the used market though. All else equal at the same mileage, the CX-5 is better but the CX-30 is still fantastic and still reliable. Mazda's SUV lineup is a revelation in general though, they're giving Toyota, Subaru, and Honda a run for their money in the segment.
@@DoTheAstralPlane Yes, a run for their money indeed. After my brother settled on a CX-5, because he didn't want a turbo engine or a CVT transmission I was totally on board.
I currently have a CX-5 turbo rental while my car is being repaired and this drives awesome, very sporty handling and quick, blows my 2018 CR-V away as far as driving dynamics.
Is your car in the shop due to cracked cylinder head?
I just bought a CX-5 tonight !!
As a Toyota owner, I bought my first Mazda because of the gouging going on at Toyota Dealerships. I bought a 2023 Mazda CX5 (no turbo) Premium Plus package and I freaking love it. It takes a while to get used to the handling as it is much more rigid that my previous vehicle but I really enjoy the feel of the road now. I've got roughly 5K miles on it thus far and so far so good.
Same here with my CX50! Love it!
Same here brother
Mazda Rising ✨️
I got a 2019 CX-5 and 2020 Mazda 6 GTR love them both.
I live mazda..but you should have bought a honda.
bought my CX5 Turbo in 2020 during virus lock down....35K miles and not one problem..fun to drive and got a real good price in April of 2020
I rented one of these when visiting home a few years ago, it was the FWD one and I absolutely loved it.
I got my wife a 2020 CX-5. We had a 2015 CX-9 with the ford duratec engine that suffered the dreaded water pump failure. I was skeptical about buying another Mazda but felt better about it when I learned it was free from containing any Ford parts. My wife loves her normally aspirated 2020 CX-5.
Ford is no longer involved with Mazda thankfully, they have been on the upswing since then.
My wife has the 2018 "5", almost 100k miles. She loves it. I inherited her 2007 "9" with 220k miles, still a great car!
I have the 2021 CX-5 naturally aspirated engine. It’s sporty enough for me and very fun to drive. Definitely a great vehicle.
I have a Mazda CX-30 made in Mexico. 107K miles and have only replaced the battery, tires, oil, filters and transmission fluid. Zero issues. I don't know why people diss on Mexican car assemblies. The standards are all the same and instituted by Japanese Mazda. It's not like Mazda becomes a Mexican company when its cars are assembled there.
Same here, I have a 2020 CX-30 made in Mexico. 38k miles no issues with my cx30 just change oil, tires. idk why ppl hate mexican assemblies...
Exactly, Mexico built cars are great. I don’t know why Scotty keeps saying Mexico’s built cars are no good 🤷🏻♂️.
The standards might be the same but the quality control is definitely not. So some vehicles come out great while others not so much
Currently have 520 miles on my 2024 CX5 S preferred. I’ll drive it over. Love it so far Wanted Rav 4 as CX5 was number 2 choice but 0% 60 months… I went Mazda
U are me 2 yrs ago when I totaled my car. Dealers wanted markup I said no and walked
Same thing, Mazda was number 2 choice, but I got 0% and faster waiting period 1 month instead of 6 on rav4. So, we bought Mazda, and we love it
My mazda 6 gets about 26 to 27 with the same engine. Scotty is right about the all wheel drive and SUV body type. Also I'm glad i got my car during the start of the pandemic. I got mine used with 9000 miles for 9K less that the MSRP.
Scotty cracks me up every time he throws a beauty cover away!
First one I had seen thrown away, so funny. I have learned to like the covers however. My 2023 VW Golf GTI has no cover. I think it was because they caught fire!
VW GTI not reliable engine becomes extremely hot.
Imagine standing by while Scotty films your car and you just hear the clatter of your engine cover and you turn around to his cackling 😂
With Scotty that stupid beauty thing always ends up thrown away like that. 😅
There it goes!
Scotty hates beauty. He wants ole and homely!
Makes me feel better about purchasing a 24 Cx-5 recently.
@Scotty Kilmer: I want to get a 2024 CX-5 Premium Plus. I hear the NA engines are no longer getting cylinder deactivation and I-stop. That is a great thing!
My first car was a 1978 Ford Courier Long Bed with a MAZDA Engine, sigh..I loved that truck, it fit my lonboard for surfing the Rincon and also fit a keg in the back for night time beach parties with fires, and guitar playing and dancing, ahhh the funtimes!. :-)
Mr. Scott I’ve Been watching you for about 3 years Way from Louisiana! Thank You sir keep up the good work
2021 CX-30. You can talk crap about Mexico if ya wanna but you should research the facilities they built down there and the quality assurance methods they have in place with Japanese supervision and inspection. The CX-30 I just got non turbo 2.5 plenty of power 35 mpg+ on highway 26 city. I love it. So far a great purchase. Love the smooth 6 speed tranny. And a very nice interior that blows competitors away. Great job Mazda !!!
First Gen Mazda CX-5 was also available with a 6-speed manual gearbox but only on the 2.0 liter. Hard to find but should've offered with the 2.5 too. Mazda is on a roll right now
I had a 13 2.0 manual. Was great. Just needed a bigger car with more kids. Should have kept it on the side.
I love my 2013 cx-5 manual. Fun to shift and average 32mpg.
The Mazda3 2.5l non-turbo is the most reliable as far as older Mazda3s go.
I get 34 mpg highway with my 2019 CX-5 turbo at 60 mph. I rarely have need for the extra turbo power, but it is nice to have V8 power when I want it for merging and passing. I also consistently get 18 or more mpg in the city.
I bought a brand new Mazda this year. It is one of the best purchases that I have ever made! I feel the quality every time I drive it. It's fast, powerful and fun to drive. Plus, it feels like a premium, entry-level luxury vehicle.
My wife had a CX30 for a couple of years and it was trouble free. She liked it but wanted more room. Got a CX5 turbo. Wow, great car. Her CX30 was a little weak at high elevation and loaded down with people and luggage etc. The CX5 had no such issues. It's fun to drive. I'd highly recommend this vehicle.
I own a CX9 2018 & a CX5 2023 I absolutely love them. Had no issues
Out in the snow to make a video! Scotty you do great work!
My Mazda 3 2008 Manual 202,000 and still kicking and I’m the third owner! I’ve had this car for 8+ yrs just done regular maintenance 🤘🏽
My wife's 2019 CX5 awd non-turbo gets good mpg, only issue it had beside normal wear and tear it only had oil pan seal leak that was repaired under a warranty for free. It's an amazing fun, easy to drive vehicle!!!
I have a 2024 CX5 Turbo Carbon Edition. Love it!
I’m picking mine up on Monday. I need to have something reliable for the times that both of my Dinan BMWs are in the shop;)
Last year we bought a used 2021 Mazda CX-5 Grand touring AWD. She is so beautiful, kinda lux, handles well in the snow. She is nice to drive, a little firm, like people say but not bad at all. My husband who has had pickups for over 30 years likes to drive the Mazda too. I had Jeeps for over 20 year's. This isn't like that, the Mazda is definitely more like a crossover. I joked it's a little like a SUV, car, and lux all rolled in together. My hubby loves it so much he was looking at the CX-50, CX 90, and wants to know about the CX-70 when it comes out. I doubt he will trade his truck in, but that is how much he likes them.
My 2022 Mazda 3 built in Japan rattled in the door after only 4 months. My Kia Forte GT made in Mexico has been rock solid now.
Oh yes, this is my baby !!! Got my own 2020 CX-5 Grand Touring non turbo with 28,000 miles and zero problems, and I freaking love it. Scotty, you should definitely think about getting yourself one. Your wife would love it, and you and her won't have to crouch down to get in it. ❤💪🏽🔥💯
Knowing him and his comments, sure it would be a great car but one downside is that Mazda does have a more stiffer suspension, hence why they handle so well. I have a 2013 3 that has low profile tires and I feel everything. It's a harsher ride probably without the low profile tires, so I don't see him getting it for her but still a quality vehicle nonetheless.
I agree with you there. I also have a 2020 CX-5 Grand Touring without the turbo and so far, it has been the best car I have ever owned.
@@andrewvenor8035 hell yeah !
I have a 2023 CX-30, it’s my favorite car I’ve ever driven. I work with Mexican Car manufacturers and do agree they seem pretty lax and quantity over quality. Doesn’t seem like they have dropped the ball yet on my particular vehicle though.
Scotty, did you realize that with these new push button start cars you do not have to hold the button until it starts? I was doing the same thing with mine, but the switch isn't connected to the starter like the old days. I step on the brake, give the button a quick stab -- that's all that's required -- and while it's cranking I grab my seat belt. 😊
Well said about the vehicle can’t complain. Sister rental that same vehicle. All I remember is that turbo lag blow back feel before the turbo kicks in. Gotta wait for turbo lag. Now there are turbo no lag bypass kit already out there.
I live in Nashville, took my car on the infamous “drag trip” pretty dope😎
Just bought a 2021 cx 5 after driving a Honda civic for 16 years. I am loving the car, it is fantastic.
Just bought a 2024 CX-90 PHEV. Made in Hofu Plant, Hiroshima, Japan. Traded in a 2016 CX-9. Never had a single issue with that car. The 2.5 turbo is the way to go. Mazda has added the 3.3 to the CX lineup, and the CX-90 is more of a rear wheel based design, although it is all wheel drive.
The 'Auto Hold' is my favorite feature. Great when at a light or in the drive thru.
What is "auto hold"?
After depressing the brake pedal, one cam remove the foot from the break and the auto hold feature prevents the car from moving until one accelerates.
Just bought the 2018 CX5 this weekend with only 32K miles on it. Drives like a champ and the interior is top quality. But what sealed the deal for me was when I saw the 'J" in the VIN#!
I bought a 2020 2.5l petrol awd CX5 last year. It had 38,000km on it, still under warranty. So far so good, it's such a brilliant car and I have no complaints 🙃
I get between 24 and 31 in our cx 5 but then I drive a lot of smoother than most people.
Currently own a 2016 Mazda3 with 2.5L it's at 110k miles at the moment and still humming along. averaging about 33mpg combined and so much fun to drive with the low end torque. Best car I've owned and I'm hoping to take care of it until 200k+ !
2016 2.5L has a love hate relationship on the internet. But engineers say that its the best year for the 2.5 NA
I had a 2019 CX5 and loved it. I am seriously considering buying a 2024. Great vehicles!
Just got a great deal on a 23 turbo! Wanted a cx30 but had to pass since it wasn't made in Japan. Love the cx5, handles similar to a Miata.
Hi Scotty, just thought I'd let you know, my daughter's Mexican built 2014 Mazda 3 2.0 litre has 200 000 on the clock and still rides like new. Zero problems so far. I personally also insist on the Japanese model (I have a 2021 3GT), but I'm glad hers is living up to the Mazda reputation.
Thanks for reviewing the vehicle. I'm always keeping an ear open for good information pertaining to my possible next buy
We bought a 2023 CX5 last summer and we love it. We were looking at the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV but both were way above msrp. Not Mazda. that’s the main reason we went with the Mazda CX-5. Great vehicle at a great price.
I'm still driving a 2013 CX5 AWD Touring I bought in June 2012. Low milage at 82K but still trouble free.just replaced the plugs and last year replaced antifreeze. Otherwise just oil tires and brakes.
I own a 2020 cx5 non turbo. So far so good. The battery hasn't been changed yet. Still oem but I have to jump started once -25° where I leave (Canada) at that time and the positive plastic cover cap broke off. Maybe I tip it so hard and the plastic break off it was cold. I bought an agm battery and get a oem cover cap from the dealership and that it. I have 52k km on it now. I will baby it if I can I want it last for 10 more years
Scotty thank you for amazing content and helpful tips! I am trying to decide between CX5 and CX50 . Which one would you suggest?
I loved my 2007 Mazda 3 w/manual transmission. Very reliable.
Great looking car and hope they last longer than some of the cars they put out last decade...
They split from ford back in 2013 so yes quality is going up.
Quality isn't much better than when they were under Ford.
I recently got transferred from my BMW dealership to Mazda dealership and i was pretty upset at first because i loved selling BMW and i didn't know much about Mazda but i have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the vehicles , luxury and safety features... super underrated brand.
The problem with cars being made in Mexico has nothing to do with the people that live there doing the work and more about the greedy companies cutting corners. Boeing makes a lot of their stuff in the US, and they've had issues all over the place that last 5 years.
I'm in the market to replace my 2014 Mazda 6 and was considering the CX-50 but now turned off by two things. First, the base engine is made in Mexico, and if that wasn't bad enough the base has cylinder deactivation (turns off 2 of 4 cylinders at certain conditions). I want no part of that. Second, the turbo engine is made in Japan but that one has what Mazda refers to as i-Stop...engine shuts down when the vehicle is stopped and then restarts once you start moving. I'm sometimes in stop-and-go traffic and don't need any part of that. It can be disabled, but every time to you start the car if defaults to "on". As much as I'd like CX-50, these features are a no-go for me.
Get the 2024 CX-90
love my CX-9 Same engine, but geared differently for the size difference.
Same. I have a 2018 Mazda CX9
Have a cx5 for my girl and I have a Mazda 3 carbon edition 2023 and what a beautiful Cars! Super fun's to drive and super reliable! If you trying to get one! Get it!!!! Thanks Scotty for always being so right and honest 🔥
Original battery in 2022 still at 70% is great it’s 2 years old! I have a battery 3 years old already needs replacement dam interstate! My Everstart battery died at 1 1/2 years in my last car. When the Honda tiny battery it came with lasted 10 years
Nothing makes me want to watch a video more than being called "stupid".
I have 2023 cx5 sports diesel and run very smooth 1000km in 1full tank is not a problem.
Pedal to the metal burns more gas in a non-Turbo too!
I have been researching what car to buy and the CX-5 was my top pick, probably a used one 2020-2023 with low miles. The price is reasonable and it looks nicer than the Rav4 or CRV... I really want something reliable and practical but the zoom would be appreciated too haha. My Kia Spectra is closing in on 200k miles and its starting to have some problems. I don't want to deal with too many repairs so I think its about time for a new car... Maybe keep the Kia as a back up car since its been so reliable this far.
It is the best choice in the non-turbo, regular (torque converter) automatic transmission, SUV segment.

I had the CX-30 as a rental for two months and I loved it. Quality wise is was exactly the same as that CX-5. Long term though, we won’t know. Still, I really like what Mazda has done with there cars and as a Toyota guy, I actually want to own either the CX-30 or the Miata.
Can you do a review of the Mazda CX 60 plug in hybrid ? Thanks.
My Mazda 6 signature has the same engine and I get 33 mpg...I just purchased a CX5 turbo and on the way home 25 mpg.
I don’t own a CX-5 . . . but I do own a Miata RF. Mazda’s quality and reliability is outstanding!
6 speed! Remember the ChevyPower-Glide?
If you want power get a V6, if you want economy get 4 cylinder.. the average driver will be satisfied with the right 4 cylinder, not looking for speed. Not carrying heavy weight (single drivers). Families, fast drivers should look more toward the bigger engines. Moves weight way easier
I've been averaging 34mpg on my 25 mile commute on my NA CX5. Also replaced a Ford with it
What is NA CX5? Is it a model
@@catherineyslas4725 Naturally Aspirated is an engine configuration. It means non-turbo

2023. I do live in the mountains though so I very consciously use the hills to my advantage...and maybe the thin air helps me out too but I'm not sure on that one.
I've got a CX-5. I can say a lot of good things about it. Spacious is not one of them.
Im really thinking of buying a new Mazda CX5. Is the infotainment screen upgradable to a larger screen without going up to the next trim level ? Can it be removed and replaced easily ?
Hey I’ve really been looking at Mazda 3’s made in Japan. Would you buy this over a Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla due to Mazda have a real transmission compared to the cvt of Honda and Toyota. Great channel Scotty
you should consider buying a civic or corolla with a manual transmission, they are functionally more simple than automatics and CVTs and as such tend to last longer and are cheaper to repair when they do break
Scotty hates CVT and is an inline guy all the way. Get an engine 2.0L or higher. Anything in the 1L is underpowered and will wear out quicker.
@Scotty, would you by out a leased 2020 cx5 grand touring or get a new one. My lease is up. Would you walk away and get something else? Really need more rear leg/height room? Was thinking of a hybrid?
I used to have a Mazda 3, 2013 model year. I really enjoyed driving it when i was single and dating. Mazda makes reliable cars. If i was to ever get away from Toyota, i would go to mazda.
Honda, mazda, then toyota......toyota quality has slipped...ive known a lotnof people with new camrys that regret buying them..and the tacoma is madein mexico..to build them cheaper ,and they charge more and more. Fk that

Despite the fact he had Lexus cars in the past, he says he would never go back. He is thinking about getting a 2024 Mazda CX90, but he is feeling that this car drives well and has never given him any issues, why should he change now. I’ll send him the link to this video.
I am A BIG MAZDA fan but I was disappointed with the trunk space of CX5. My Mazda 6's trunk is twice as big as CX-5's!
I bought a 2023 cx5 premium plus. Non turbo. It was that or the cx50. The quality on the cx5 seemed slightly better than the cx50. The mazdas drive way better than the rav
Walked into Lexus to get an rx350h. Was quoted at $76k OTD. Laughed all the way to Mazda and got a 2023 cx-5 for $30k OTD
it surely shocked me when my diesel engine regenerates DPF every 50Km after doing only 30k km, and nobody knows why. Dealer said DPF is clear. So now i'm dealing with oil dilution and 30~33mpg from a 1.5L little diesel, when i was doing 55mpg a year ago)))
Nice vehicle, if it run 20mpg, I prefer my 2022 passport, non turbo but v6. Otherwise get a hybrid
Scotty throws the beauty cover on the snow ground. The owner: "what an honor!"
Owned a Mazda 1992 929. Wonderful vehicle. Should,have kept it. RWD 6 cylinder. ✔✔✔
I have a 2018 Chevy cruze going turbo I'm getting average 39mpg on the open road I'm getting low 40s
I really like my 2024 Mazda Cx-30. I didn't get the Turbo engine. It has no CVT. It's quieter than any Honda I have had except the Pilot. I have had 9 Honda's and I won't go back to them. I loved Honda's in the beginning but they aren't made like they are used even if they were made in Japan.....like oil dilution problem I had with my 2018 CRV???? So I don't think manufacturing specifications just go out the window because a car is made state side or in Mexico it where abouts other than Japan.
Who knows how long these codes have been there! Sometimes u never know if u have codes! Apparently not all codes set off check engine lights. Or even the brake light or ABS light since abs is connected to that Now a days engine light isn’t only connected to emission issues!
And Mazda’s white exterior is very VERY crisp! Mazda on a roll🫰🏽!

@Scotty, can you share your OBD scanner model name?
Hi Scotty. I was a satisfied owner of a 2021 Kia Sorento. Well I’m still the owner, making payments on a car that’s apparently not repairable. I got tagged on the left front from behind by a lady that decided to pass everyone in the left turn lane. It took out the wheel and tire, left front fender, and of course the front plastic. The real kicker is that Kia already doesn’t make a lot of the needed parts. This car is 3 model years old!! The fender mounting brackets are unavailable, as well as the black wheel opening trim. What a bunch of crap. So it looks like my car will be sitting in limbo until one shows up in a wrecking yard with a good left front corner
The best solution for a new car is the non-turbo engine. It will cost less.
i'm love my CX5 preferred 2023 MADE IN JAPAN 😎 the best choice!!
