Once I had a dream that I was doing that and one of them got so mad they pulled out an ax and the game did that close-up thing y'know where it looks like they're gonna give you an item? But instead it was an ax to my face. It was the Best Nightmare I ever had.

I actually miss the villagers having more of a personality as well. I don't own new horizons sincs I can't afford a switch but I do still play new leaf sometimes. Even in that game the villagers are toned down a lot and repeat themselves much more often. In wild world you actually had to make an effort to make friends and it felt like those friends are really interested in you. No matter the hour or how many times you talked to them, they rarely repeated anything. They asked your opinion on designs, outfits, relationships of other villagers, gave you random items or clothes as gifts. They'd let you know if you become annoying or look bad in those clothes. They just seemed.. more alive. Like a little community and not just like a bunch of dolls you can push around. I do miss that.
It was so cool when they would ask you your opinion on something, or you'd do a chore or something like that, and then an entirely different villager would mention it that the person you talked with before had mentioned it to them! I loved when they would get angry or sad randomly, too. I wish they'd beef that up instead of giving us.. tools that constantly break
New leaf villagers does that sometimes, asking their signature phrase can be changed?
Another aspect of the GC AC I miss is being able to consistently get chores/requests from the villagers--it's the first option when talking to anyone! I find myself really lighting up when one of my ACNH villagers asks me to deliver something once in a blue moon, or I find a missing item on the ground and have to figure out who it belongs to. I felt this mechanic really added to better relationship building opportunities with the villagers in the first game.

I heard the reason it's barely an hour of gameplay a day is because they thought it was unhealthy to play games to long, making it an intentional decision. I loved GC animal crossing. We stayed up late to meet Wisp and got up early for morning aerobics. The world felt more real because I didn't control it. It didn't solely exist as my doll house
Once in Wild World, Wart Jr (my least fav villager, prob of all time) and Alice (my fav villager) started dating and loved each other, then they had a fight, and then a DAY AFTER the fight, Alice LEFT. Then I hated Wart Jr even more.

I took a visit to my old town in Animal Crossing in college, 2015. Hadn't played since maybe 2007. It was devastating. Almost everyone had moved away, weeds took over the town, and the few remaining residents all were shocked. "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN???" They all said. My fully upgraded house was dark and full of roaches. I never picked up another AC entry after that because it was like watching your first dog die 😭

Tbh she’s right and this should be discussed more, we need a villager personality update the villagers honestly suck in new horizons in the older games we had rude and down right hilarious discussions with our villagers. Nowadays we just have short pointless little conversations with our villagers better personalities would bring new life to the game.

Yeah. Like- I've never played another animal crossing game before, but honestly, seeing how fun the villagers are makes me wanna play one of the old ones.
As an ACNH addict, if you try to talk to a villager while their sitting, they will either say "oh sorry, did you want to sit here? I got here first!" or they'll talk about how much they like resting. Their conversations are actually pretty bland.
What hooked me about Animal Crossing for Nintendo GameCube was that occasionally you would dig up NES games that you could place in your room and actually play, and also transfer any one game to your Game Boy Advance where they would be playable until you shut off the power and they cleared from the GBA memory. There was a bunch of hidden games like Mike Tyson’s punch out, and the original legend of Zelda that you had to get using Action Replay (like a GameShark or GameGenie) to unlock.

Even in new leaf the dialogue was different than any other games but in new leaf they smoothed it a bit and then nuked Ressti to be more child friendly I can see why but in new horizons the best your going to git is a bit of gossip about other villagers

Honestly I think it's because people are too sensitive nowadays so that influenced Nintendo to be much gentler, thus more stale consequently, in their writing for the dialogue in these games. The only characters that still have interesting dialogue are the important NPCs, like Blathers, Chip, Flick, Gulliver, etc. Even Isabelle, being the Mary Sue she is, has more to say in this game than in New Leaf due to the "starting a new day" dialogue. Another point to add is that the villagers rarely ask you to do things for them despite walking/running past them so often. Even if they do ping you most of the time they'll just say, "I have an extra item I bought the other day and i thought I'd give it to you," or, "I need to clear out my house so would you want to buy item A, B, C, or D?" In New Leaf they were pretty much guaranteed to request a task practically anytime they pinged you, though that did make it much harder to see who wanted to move out since the dialogue would only show via pings in that game so NH has the edge (with villagers not moving without your permission) in that regard. Before I get too rambly I'll stop here but will conclude by saying at least ACNH still has ongoing updates and can potentially listen to the feedback about the game to amend certain things. There's hope for the future for this to be the best AC game in the series. Much better than SwSh requiring paid DLC to even fix a couple of things and still being a poor quality game with many issues despite that.

Original animal crossing was meant for working moms!! Thats why it only had about an hour of gameplay a day - it was meant to be soothing. I LOVE it. Its so comforting to me. Mom and I would take turns in our towns. I wish they would rerelease it for the switch GENUINELY
First day into New Horizons I saw Hazel talking to herself. "If I do it for them, they'll never learn. But if I don't do it, I'm afraid it won't get done" I knew immediately she was my soul squirrel. I got on with her the best. Even at times when I'd put the game away for a bit and came back, the others would be all judgy for me being away and she was all "I get it. Sometimes you just want some alone time. I'm glad to see you again though, uniwow!" I love her so much I crashed Reese and Cyrus' stupid wedding and took a picture of me marrying Hazel instead. They still gave me full marks.

One thing I do really like about NH is how villagers will interact with things you put out. They'll get drinks from vending machines and things like that. For some reason Goose keeps going into the smoker outside my house, I'm convinced he's up to something but idk what yet *suspicious Fry face*
As a kid, some family friends would watch me and my older sister, and they had Animal Crossing on the GameCube. Since I was like 6 or so, they would hand me their late game save, tell me I could fush and catch as many bugs as I wanted, not to run on the flowers, and check the museum before I sold everything, and then they'd leave me in the living room alone for like 2 hours or so. 😅 I loved it.
They clearly heard your complaint on villager conversations. The Snowfolks during the winter season straight up belittles you if you don’t make them perfectly.
I massively enjoyed deliberately building snow boys wrong just for them to roast me everyday. I just wish they implemented it to the villagers too.

I stopped playing animal crossing because of the villagers. There’s a demographic of animal crossing players that play mainly to design their island but I thought ‘what’s the point of maintaining an island’ if the villagers are just there for the sake of being there and they ask almost nothing of you?

One of the things I liked about the Game Cube Animal Crossing, is that you could buy multiple closets, and each closet had it's own space. You literally couldn't run out of inventory space! If you didn't want your house to be full of closets, just put the full-up closet inside of another closet! UNLIMITED INVENTORY SPACE!!! That's the one thing I really wish they would've brought over from the original Animal Crossing. Although, it's been forever since I've played it, so I cant remember what other things I might have liked from it.
as someone who has never played the old game and only the new I can say i absolutely find the characters fun and interesting and very cute. I don't think I would have gotten into animal crossing if they talked the way in the old game. I do in fact have beef with one of my villagers on my island XD even tho they aren't meant to make you want to anger them. I really really hate Chops. But I can say I can see the appeal of the old villagers as they are very fun for some people, me personally would get really annoyed if they talked like that in new horizon. Having kind villagers is fun to me, and I already have my own stories about them and do find they have personality. But I completely get if you played the old game and liked it better, I just never have and only ever played new horizon.

I play a similar game to bunny except Im in new leaf, I basically just dress up in a green pumpkin head, a moldy shirt and hold a toy hammer no maze just chase my brother round my town trying to hit him for no reason whatsoever because if I hit him he isn't out
New horizons can be a bit less chaotic like wild world, but still chaotic, because the smug villagers can say things about screaming in their basement

Started playing Animal Crossing again myself! Another thing I miss from the first game is your town could have up to 15 villagers! It made the town feel more full and bustling. Granted back then there were only 6 personality types, but villagers had favorite items and styles, and also items they HATED! It was different for each villager, whereas now you can give villagers literal trash and they immediately gush over you. Increasing the villager population and bringing back at least some of the edge to the villagers would be awesome, and also favorite and hated items, too.

I remembered I freaked out playing the old animal crossing because one of the animals asked me whats my blood type, AND I FREAKED OUT, because I thought that was like personal information and was about to be kidnapped because the thing asked my BLOOD TYPE, and in conclusion I never got on the animal crossing train just because of that. I WAS TRAUMATIZED I SAY, TRAUMATIZED.

In Japan, the bloodtypes are assigned personality traits. Asking for someone's blood type is comparable to asking them their horoscope I would say.

I was once screamed at and called a "SNIVELLING COWARD!!!" by a villager, simply because I refused to play a game with them.
I need that on pocket camp. All I do is fish for tropical sea life and try to extort other players in exchange for a product that only costs 100 bells. I’d sell an octopus, witch is around 10 bells. Times that by 100. I like cash
But then people probably went crying to mommy about it. It goes like this: First some players riot when games tell them off for playing at their own pace. Next other players riot when they have the freedom to play at their own pace. And the cycle repeats. This is what happens when developers try to please everyone.

You can give a new horizons villager a rotting corpse and they would say some shit like "thanks! heres a peach!" Give an og villager a wardrobe in the wrong color and your done for.
I think the character that broke me most in wild world was Wolfgang. I liked how at first they'd talk to you about vague things and if you talked to them more they're have longer talks with you. But Wolfgang was so depressing. He'd start talking about how lonely he is and how he cant make friends because everyone is scared of him.
I always loved the wolf villagers. Mostly because they're my favorite animal.

I've been playing the only Animal Crossing game I've ever played, the newest one on the Switch. I still remember when Sasha told me that their whole life was in a video game then was like "JK I just ate a bunch of chips and passed out in my basement, my dreams are weird "
I grew up with the OG Animal Crossing and tbh, I wildly miss how brutal it was. I'd give anything for a more adult mode in New Horizons for the villagers to be assholes again.
