Days in the hospital, then home alone. Watching this, I realize that the hospital gave me no recovery Information whatsoever. Dartmouth Hitchcock in NH. I've called it Alfred Hitchcock ever since.

  • Thanks for the video! I fractured a rib after severe coughing from pneumonia. I felt it crack, and the pain was intense (I screamed when it happened, then a lot of f-bombs followed). Urgent care, then hospital for x-rays. The pain is incredible, and I can't imagine multiple fractured ribs. Good luck to all of you fellow sufferers.

  • I broke 5 ribs after a fall in my house. Still in the healing process. This happened 5-1/2 weeks ago. I was in the hospital for 2 days. The doctor also told me I had a small lung puncture. Not significant enough to treat and a bruised lung. I have improved with breathing, standing and sitting and walking straight. Still a struggle to get myself out of bed. I was sleeping in a recliner for 3 weeks. My left rib cage is still so tender. The E.R. doctor said my ribs should heal within 6 - 8 weeks. I'm trying to patient. I can't drive and it's a struggle to get up into my SUV (passenger side). to go anywhere. I am 67 years old. I was in excellent shape. Exercised 6 days a week. Weight bearing, aerobic, weights. I eat a very healthy diet. No processed foods, no white carbs, no sugary foods. I guess long story short I am not use to being out of commission for this long. Wondering if I will every heal from this :(

  • EXCELLENT - for 2 reasons. Firstly they include a stack of information, including lots of things most of us wouldn't have thought of, all towards helping an injured rib heal, and the SECOND thing is that they don't - like so many boring videos - they don't talk as if they are reading everything, they speak with interest, as if they really want to get this information over, as if they care. Some people who CARE in this world! Amazing. Thank you. John Windsor-Cunningham

  • Going thru this for just about two weeks now and am naturally doing many of these movements and postures. Helps me to feel better as the body develops a lot of aches and pains during the periods of little movement. A few other suggestions I have for those experiencing a rib fracture for the first time : - when you feel the need to cough or sneeze, stand if you can and hold the affected side - both front and back - securely with your hands to help ease the pain. I’ve found this even suppresses the need to sneeze much of the time and that’s even more satisfying ; - when sitting and standing up, or sitting up and laying down in bed (or any other effort which causes strain) be sure to breath in before the movement and then out while making the movement ; - stay away from the prone position as much as possible: during the day be sure to sit or stand and walk around your house and garden as much as you can without overdoing it. This allows the lungs and other organs to move and function well, clears any phlegm in the system so you can breathe better and ultimately it will ease the pain. Just remember to work to your limits - stop where you feel pain. I hope these small tips help you further. I know they have been a godsend for me.

It’s been almost 7 days and it feel a little worse the pain hard to breath fully in, feels like something is shifting when I reach on top of like the fridge with the rite none effect arm..as I bring it down almost makes me feel like a weird dizzy feeling or like I’m pushing something I should not. The cold has made the bones sore I have noticed the last two nights .

I consumed that for a month afterwards I then proceed with organic medicine. It saddened me because i thought this is just a broken rib only to find out that there’s also multiple bone contusion at my back that also made it a little bit challenging. The process of going back and forth to the hospital during this pandemic is truly a hassle but wishing everything will be fine soon. Loving the informative videos you both did a great job. • Thank you so much for this! I'm about 12 days out from multiple rib fractures. I am finally at a point where I can carefully move and lightly function without extreme pain. I noticed last night, however, that it's starting to feel like the muscles in my back have clamped down and are adding to the pain, so I was trying to figure out if it was a good idea to start trying to stretch those muscles or not. This was exactly what I needed to know. (My doctor gave tons of instructions about breathing and keeping lungs healthy, but not much on healing ribs, muscles, etc.) I appreciate this so much. I'm going to have to start slowly and gently, but I'm looking forward to getting these exercises started and healing all of the damage as much as possible.

  • I can't even take a big breath because it hurts so much. I don't understand why I should sleep on the same side as the injury? I haven't gone to the doctor because they never help with anything I can't get from listening to yall. Still the pain is absolutely horrible! BTW, I injured my mid right ribs by reaching quickly for my cellphone slipping off the seat of my car while going around a sharp turn. The arm rest of my CRV was up and apparently much stronger than I ever could have imagined. It hurt immediately and I knew that I was in trouble right away. First week so far has only gotten more painful, but I feel comfortable that it's not more serious than bruised ribs. Also no, there was no accident just a very sharp turn that created enough inertia to throw me against the armrest as I was already reaching in that direction. 🥺 What a lesson I've learned!!

  • Had a bicycle accident just a few days ago. Flew off the left side of the bike and landed on my left arm. Along with a few scrapes and bruises, I broke 1 lower rib on my left side and cracked my left elbow. Rib did not puncture lung and there was no internal damage from the rib breaking. Told to relax and do no exertive activities (getting up is exertive and painful right now). Each excursion reopens the break as it heals, but eventually it does heal. Arm put in a splint cast, given some pain meds and sent home. Told not to bandage the ribs as it may cause a serious lung infection due to not breathing right because, although the bandaging would help with the pain, they restrict the rib movement and air flow. Doctors offered no further information on what I can or should do. I cannot lay down, if I do I have excruciating pain and it is all I can do to get back up. I have to sleep in a office chair that leans back. I have asthma and this break makes taking my sprays pure hell. I'm told it will take a few weeks before the pain finally subsides and even longer until it heals. Thanks for the information in this video!

  • Thank you Bob and Brad for all your good information. I was in a car accident five days ago and my ribs started to feel painful the day after the accident and have continued to do so. I have followed all your advise regarding how to rest and use cold packs but I have not gone to a doctor. I am feeling better in the morning and the pain gets worse during the afternoon and evening. I am taking Ibuprofin for the pain. My question is, after all this time, should I still go to the doctor, or should I assume that my lungs are not punctured, etc. Thank you.

  • I had displaced fractures of 9th and 10 ribs a year ago. I always have trouble with the "stirring the pot" type excercise. I think it contributed to my delayed healing. A better excercise for me was: start position- lying on side, fully outstretched, top leg bent and shin touching floor, arms together on facing side. Stretch- raise top arm and rotate upper body until arm touches floor on other side, while keeping top leg in start position. Your head should be facing the ceiling at full strech. Do not stretch to point of pain.

  • I had to have an CT scan with the dye stuff to tell me I had three cracked ribs. I broke them last year around April. It took my doctor all the way to November 2020 to finally tell me what I had. They still hurt, so I’m worried the scar tissue issue you speak of is what I have now. I’m just in tears a lot now… Can barely play with my children now. Calling a doctor when I get home from vacation because I can’t keep doing this almost 16 months later.

  • I fell over two weeks ago backwards off a tall ladder onto stone shoulder first and ended up in ER in agony. They said that the fractures on my ribs were small and didn't really show up on the xray and gave me a sling and sent me home. For the first few days I couldn't move alone or sleep. Over two weeks it got better then four days ago on trying to get up from bed I heard something crack on my left side and since then it is agony in a different way and feels wrong. My doctor cannot see me for ten days so if it doesn't get better I will end up again in the ER. It's my first fall and break in 65 years so I guess that I'm lucky.

I had a fall hitting my right ribs, breast and side of the concrete ground almost 5 months ago, the pain experienced was excruciating, not yet recovered from it. Back at doctors today, bloods taken. Not sure whats going on. Im 64yrs and still having pain. Please let me know how your doing. Hope your beginning to feel better each day. Take care

    • @@francesmorris3413 Well it took me four weeks to feel more or less ok on the rib problem but the shoulder will take a few weeks more and physiotherapy. Yesterday I worked on the house and it was ok then later the pain began and I had to go lie down and today the pain is back up high and I don't take pain killers. Trying to rest, not easy for me being an active person. I hope that you are doing ok.

  • Most people take for granted and will probably never realize all the roles the "uninjured" ribs play in our lives and the fact that they move and flex with almost everything we do, both voluntary and involuntary, normal functions. I've been through many injuries in my life and a lot of pain from them but I can say without a doubt, ribs are the worst and longest lasting pain, triggered by almost anything you do ! I shattered my knee and tore the ACL completely apart in 2010 and it was horrific pain for a long time but at least I could still breathe, cough, sneeze, etc. without the feeling of being ripped to pieces from the inside out. This is the second serious injury to my ribs and I Pray To GOD, the last. I'm three weeks, two days since it happened and still in serious pain, can't get deep breaths and sneezing is Absolutely Excruciating !! I fear I'm developing permanent scar tissue that may limit my future lung function/capacity and more. I'm starting your regimen immediately. Just plugged in the heating pad to sleep with now. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and wisdom to all of us unfortunate "rib injured". It means a lot.

  • I had a severe fall 5 wks ago and still hurts to breathe, cough, laugh or SNEEZE. X-rays were negative and I got zero information from my doctor on if I had any tears or damage to muscles, organs or cartilage. Just in tears at what I see as being completely dismissed, but for the usual heat/cold/NSAIDS. I screamed trying to turn during my X-rays. Hx, 68 yo f with osteoporosis, fell into my left shin (10” hematoma) and flipped off the steps onto the ground (about 5’ fall), onto my left back and shoulder. Oddly the right side including liver area are the most painful. Haven’t been back after I was denied CT/MRI DT insurance coverage. I was so embarrassed because I fell; dark and I have ataxia, trying to carry things through the front door. Feel like an old fool that should’ve gone to the ER. Thanks so much for this video. ❤

I cant believe the persistent pain, I've had accidents before and a savage childbirth but this is somehow the most debilitating as its affecting my breathing, laughing, coughing, sneezing, driving, all areas of my life. I want to go out for runs and do lots of playtime with my boy but I cant. It sucks so bad and really getting me down. I hope so much this heals, I feel like its me for life atm. 😭😭😭 thanks gor the excersize ideas 🙏

There's a hard, jagged protrusion where it initially formed a hematoma over the low rib injury. Any ideas how I should approach this recovery???
