Ok so Jupiter's Legacy deserves a big breakdown and there's a lot to explain about it's big twist ending. The show is based on the graphic novel series of the same name by Mark Millar and in all honesty it's one of the best comic book runs I've ever read. The new season of the Netflix show adapts roughly the first two and a half issues of it and because of this there's a lot left out in terms of the overall arc.
Throughout this video we're gonna be discussing the show's ending, where things could be going in the future and how the show changed things from the graphic novels.
With that out the way welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul, now let's get into our Ending Explained Of Jupiter's Legacy.
Ok so the story centres around Sheldon Sampson a wealthy businessman who lost everything after the stock market crash in 1929. After his father ended his own life Sheldon started to be haunted by visions of him and a mysterious island.
After a lot of backwards and forwards Sheldon travels to the island with members of his family and friends, one of which was last seen doing a spread for Tony Stark...Big Spread. Upon arriving there they came across an alien doorway that took them to what I think might be Jupiter although it could be uranus.
Here they came face blessed them with superhuman abilities. Returning from space they all look like they'd taken asteroids and thus started the Jupiter's Legacy though I think Saturn had a nice ring to it...buh bum cha.
Now though this arc takes place roughly across six pages in the source material, the series expands it into a massive episode spanning storyline that adds a lot of weight to why the characters go on the arcs that they do.
The season jumps back between two time periods with the first one being the origin story and the latter being them in their winter years as they see try and comprehend the way that the world is. As a Superhero group called The Union, they stood for truth, justice and The American way. Sheldon, or rather The Utopian forced each member to live by a code that meant they wouldn't get involved in politics or ever take a life and whether this is still relevant today is something that he and the group's children wrestle with.
Sheldon viewed the world as very much being black and white but with things devolving into shades of grey, an insurrection starts up within the group led by his brother Walter.

Yes. I agree. With the origin story, there seemed to be a point. In the present day Chloe and Hutch were the most compelling characters.

@@Zhello79 I enjoyed the show but the present time came off as a downer sometimes. They don’t realize what they are doing as a good thing but feel guilty because they can’t hurt the bad guys like they would want to do. If they went back and say that they don’t murder than kill. Like how the heroes son took a life in self defense for his family and friends. It would be justified. When they say that they can’t kill that’s where put the heroes into a box and have problems like they do on the show.
Yup. It may be a mistake that the past storyline is executed far more skillfully. To the point that without it I wouldn't have made it through a single episode. But then it the twist happens and I'm like, 'wait, you can't turn a guy with self esteem problems into a family murdering psychopath without showing us why. Extreme claims require extreme evidence and we don't even see ANY evidence. Makes me not want to see the next season, to be honest.
SkyFox is probably the only hero in this entire saga
I think he's the Batman equivalent.
The Utopian is definitely a hero. He’s just flawed but I’m interested in what SkyFox will bring.

Yes. I agree. It was an origin story, so we kind of knew what its point was. Chloe and Hutch were my favorite parts of the contemporary tale.

When Walter’s betrayal happened in the show, I was like, ah right he’s a psychic, this always happens.
Throughout the whole season, I was like, him being the vilain would have made more sense, he fit the role perfectly with his storyline, even with his powers and then... boom... LOL
@@sabcam2000 I mean I really didn’t care for George, so I was perfectly willing to accept him being a villain and not think about Walter’s actions, tho it helped that I binged all the episodes at once so I didn’t really have a chance to sit down and think about what was happening. It’s disappointing that Walter ended up as the big bad, given that “Gasp the Psychic was the evil one this whole time” is a really tired trope, but maybe that’s just because I’m so used to seeing it in poorly written stories that don’t want to put the effort into creating a more interesting villain than “I just want to control people so my powers match that with mind control”.
It was very obvious the entire time to me lol. Every scene in the past showed the brother as a jealous asshole and the best friend as a great guy. Then all of a sudden we’re supposed to believe the best friend was the one to “betray” them? Please

I feel like they haven’t set up Brandon’s betrayal well enough yet. He still seems like he’s trying to do the right thing. He resents his father a little bit but definitely not enough to turn around and kill him like in the comics
No, the final battle with blackstar definitely done something to him to turn on his father.
@@thanhpt0105 definitely. When the dad reassured the son "I would have stopped him (backstar)." To me the son didn't seem convinced, but said " he knows" more to convince the father he believed the lie.
Well, assuming the makers actually will go down that route, we will see. For all we know, they could be doing something different..............

I think Hutch knows deep down his father is innocent, which is why he wants to find him. There’s so many ways they can go, I’m excited to see what they do.
The entire cast in the flashback always keeps insulting George when really, he does ALOT for Sheldon, even giving him a room with a fire place and study while he himself isn't really doing very well financially. Everyone always think of him as selfish when really, he's the only one trying to help Sheldon.
ive never read the comic BUT 1. When Walter was talking about him and his dad being scumbags I knew hed turn. 2. I never thought once George was the bad guy...not once. the show is dope....they def didn't have a Disney budget lol but it was still still dope.
Yeah, I didn't trust Walter as soon as he read Brandon's mind. Because it's not like he mentioned what he knew, he just started up a chat like he was trying to get Brandon to talk about what was wrong. And I also didn't believe George was the bad guy. It would have been more believable if they just had him as a hero who didn't work within the Union. But to have him go to a supervillain, didn't ring true at all
One. I really liked Walter till the end... Two. Jupiter's Legacy Proves Invincible would be an Awesome Live Action Movie!

The question I want answered is, "Why can't Utopian wash his hair?" How can you be a hero with hair that gross? They love showing those doors with words like Wisdom, Justice, Courage, etc. How about one that says "Rinse and Repeat?"

SPOILER ALERT!!!! . . . . . . . . . . George dies in the most stupid way, Walt burns him with his powers and that's it. The most interesting character dies just like that in one page.. it's ridiculous

I knew from the first episode when we are introduced to the brothers that Walter was the big bad, Sheldon wears white all the time or light colours symbolising innocence and purity where are Walter wears black or dark colours...
Walter just reminded me too much of Magneto to not see him as an antagonist.
Skyfox was my favorite character in the comics hopefully he gets more screen time next season

Totally agree with you, I give it around a 7 too. I too think that if you have read the comics, you will be more interested in the show. I also agree that it should end with the death of Utopian and Lady Liberty like in the comics to make people hooked for S2. Overall I still dig it. Love how the actors who played Skyfox and Brainwave nailed their portrayal.
We keep getting Justice League/Superman parallel media and they are really quality. But WB won’t give us actual sequels to the real properties, it’s really strange if you ask me.

Just binged the entire season and the first thing I did other than going to the washroom 😅 is check if Heavy Spoiler had uploaded a video talking about the show and (not) to my suprise he did. Cheers mate! Keep up the great work. Also was it just me or the shifting aspect ratio between the current events and the past was really annoying. FYI I'm watching on a phone with a 20:9 aspect ratio screen and every time the show would shift from the older scene (16:9) to the current scene (21:9) my screen would not expand to fill the screen rather it would reduse I.e. an 21:9 scene inside the 16:9 aspect ratio. It's difficult to explain but can anyone relate?

George was my favorite out of all of them. Even though u don’t see him a lot except in the flashbacks, I was very intrigued by his motives and the view that he had and often agreed with him. I have never read the comics but I thought the show was amazing. I give it 9/10 because of the great character development, a decent plot, and the amazing acting.
Omni-Man never showed up, or even Homelander for that matter. 😭
What was so important about the briefcase that it needed to be stolen? The daughter just snorted all of that and that plot disappeared..Also, how the hell did the guy with the transportation stick lose it? Why does everyone have powers if only these 6 were chosen to get them? The show was a mess

Oh, your comic book info was what I was missing. I kept wanting more character development & filling in story points for arc.
i realize it is good to not make an exact copy of the comic book source material. but it does not seem as good as the comic book. Sheldon seems dumbed down and much more simple minded than in the comics.
so hyped for season 2. seems the show got mixed reviews but i liked it a lot. it reminded me a lot of watchmen, the boys and invincible so i liked it.

This reminds me of Professor X and Magneto. Like Walter and Sheldon so crazy mind boggling ending.
I didn't know anything about the comic before watching the first season. But I was hooked from the very first moment. I just love super heroes pictured in a real world scenario and shown in a dark way. So even without any background, it felt very interesting and entertaining. What blows my mind even more is how close most characters are visually in the series compared to the comics. The actors of Sheldon, Walter and Chloe could be the original inspiration for the comics. Crazy.
Netflix should be sponsoring you, I never would’ve watched this but since I saw u had this video up I decided to watch at least the first episode before clicking on this but was right away hooked n binged The Whole season before coming back to watch this lol

Man, I struggled to finish those 8 episodes. Your breakdown saved it a bit as I never even heard of the graphic novel. I figured this was a curse of having "Jupiter" in the title since Jupiter Ascending was hot trash. Although, they completely telegraphed the twist of Walter being behind it all from that very first scene with him and Brandon. I got Scar vibes from him right off the bat.
So i guess the first season is just a crash course of everyone and the drama in union so season 2 should juicy af
I binged it out in one sitting. I was blown away with each episode and how well they treated the core material. I liked the actors. Their costumes were well designed 👌 I like the Skyfox character. I like who they found to play him. I liked skyfox's time travel sphere series. Timeless, I think. Awesome and brilliant show 👏 😀 👍 👌

I think you are absolutly right. A well made and a well put together comicbook adaptation. I always felt the book itself was just outlines for a slower series. And this is exactly what we got. Though personally the last episode didnt hit home for me. I understand what they tried to do but it felt it just missed its mark. Thanks for the review mate

Really enjoyed this, but felt that there was wayyyy too much that was left at the end of this volume. I enjoyed the journey for them to get their powers, but wished that they’d spent more time showing them receiving their powers.
At first I was hesitant but the show really drew me in. Season 2 lets go
Love that it reminds me of so many other hero stories. Leader lives on a farm, costumes remind me of watchmen, shades of heroes in the story arcs and generations of heroes, think sky foxes helmet protects him from Walter (x men) and blackstar is so darkseid, also I need a magic rod

I love Skyfox's Batman vibes. You never really know what he's thinking, but he's extremely smart, loyal, and a real threat IF he actually decided to be bad.
The Sheldon\ Walter dynamic is very much the core of the series driving force, and I think the series does this justice, more so perhaps than in the graphic- you have to understand Walt's PoV. Series 1 is awesome, very happy with it, keeps the necessary core elements in tact.

For those that haven't read its a watchable show that doesn't require all of the back explanations that some other Marvel shows require. I watched and ended up binging the entire series yesterday. I would bump it to an 8/10 at least. That said I hate that so many characters I would have liked to get to know better passed away so soon. Hopefully the series will do some back stories so we can see more of them and/or future seasons will be longer to accommodate more depth before whacking them.

Agreed!! I was a good series. Nothing new but the acting was good. I believe the Utopian survives the betrayal of his brother and reunites the group with an modified code for everyone to follow.
Overall, I liked it. It was more drama than superhero story. Reminded me of "Heroes" from the early 2000's.

I never heard of the novels/comics. However, I read the description and seemed worthy to check out the first episode. I had a lot of stuff I needed to do around the house today. Never got any of it done. I ended up binge watching Eps 1-5. I think it was well done, the makeup on the older people was not done so well. As well as, I think some of the character arcs are drawn out a bit. Nevertheless, I'm really enjoying this show and will finish off the last 3 episodes on Sat.

Haven't read the comic nor knew shit about it but I crushed the show. Definitely had moments to keep me watching but also felt like it was holding a lot back to make it truly distinguished. But the performances were strong and the character development were too. 7/10 seems right for me too

Volume 1 was a good watch & I am also looking forward to Volume 2. If SkyFox is the father of Hutch how did Hutch end up with the staff thing that was given to Dr Richardson by the aliens when powers were issued out
Being a massive Marvel and DC geek, seeing Jupiter's Legacy, The Boys and Invincible really shows a more realistic view of what being a superhero would be like..
