  • The way they discover that Elain is a fucking SEER, and that’s that. Why they don’t help her to use her abilities? The girl, although being in her catatonic state, grieving for the life that it was taken from her, tried to help somehow. With her visions, the idea to talk with Graysen to ensure shelter for the humans, with the Suriel, like how she managed to find him trough the world?! They only super protect her and don’t gives her a chance. They send her as far away from the battlefield as possible, only to have to winnow and stab Hybern. They tell Nephelle's story, that what we think is our weakness can be our greatest strength, and that the least likely person can save the day, but they totally ignore Elain.

  • I love how thoroughly Feyre crumbles the spring court. So the solstice thing, basically Ianthe wanted her moment in the sun (literally) and marked the spot for her to stand to make it look like the sun was rising in her hands she had raised above her head. Very dramatic, the theatrics with her. All Feyre had to do was move the rock a few feet over with some wind power and boom, now the first light of the sun is on herself. She chose a white dress she looks holy almost. She also managed to have the only person next to her be Lucian, so that is the initial spark of Tammy boy feeling all wtf about her and Lucian. It's diabolical and I love it. 😂

She isn’t perfect at all, she has a lot of problems with how she expresses her feelings, a lot of trauma. She seems the most human tbh. Reading her book was a whole experience for me and got me through a heavy depressive stage of my life. I have a special place for Nesta in my heart and I’m not afraid to say I’m a Nesta apologist, she deserves the world and people should cut her some slack.

Like he was traumatized by what happened under the mountain, so we can understand his outbursts and desire to forget that it happened. It doesn't excuse them, but we can understand them. His fiancée literally never listens and everyone was after her. He made her stay in a mega mansion until he got back and she in return is dragging him & ruining his existence- It wasn’t eye for eye; it was eye for Feyre taking his right hand (Lucien), legs (sentries), and everything under that! Punching bag forever 😔😒

    • I understand your criticism and I think there’s some merit to painting Feyre as someone who can do no wrong (which SJM does a bit of with her main characters) HOWEVER, Feyre started out as a character who sacrificed EVERYTHING for her family. This series is about Feyre learning to fight for herself and her happiness. I don’t like the whole “good grief my protagonist has morally grey areas this is terrible!” stance - especially with women - because there seems to be an inherit belief that women must take everything in stride with grace and I just think that perpetuates something unfair. Let female characters rage, let them be selfish and make mistakes. It’s not like she gets off the hook totally - when Feyre gets the ouroboros it shows her that her true self IS monstrous (I know Cari didn’t cover it in this video but that’s what happened) and Feyre faced that. SJM, on some level, is showing us that Feyre is not a perfect character and she has some unlikable qualities. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t deserve to fight for her happiness, no matter the cost. (Also, what breakup is not messy? Tamlin and Feyre eventually reconcile, but I don’t fault SJM for making their fallout a bit ugly. I mean, it happens - heartbreak sucks. They both hurt each other. I think people painting it as “SJM just treats Tamlin like a punching bag because she likes Rhys better” is just not a good take. Tamlin’s fallout is very realistic for an abusive man irl, they will do ANYTHING to get the upper hand over their partners, and her writing in Tamlin’s redemption arc (with him helping Feyre bring back Rhys) is more than men like him will do in real life. Idk, I just think Tamlin’s character arc is reasonable, and Feyre’s treatment of him was not the best, no - but neither was Tamlin’s treatment of her. It’s complicated, just like real life, and I appreciate that. Not every protagonist is a role model, a lot of people seem to struggle with viewer discretion. Yeah, Feyre has some faults and doesn’t make the kindest choices towards Tamlin. But he broke her heart and abused her, she’s rightfully torn up and a little vengeful about it. However, they reached a point of forgiveness, and I, for one, enjoyed the messy journey it took to get there.

      @eri_bb@eri_bb Жыл бұрын
    • He was only “cheated” on bc he abused Feyra pretty severely/ignored her needs from the trauma she also experienced, which is bs considering what she did for him. Literally he also almost killed her. Experiencing trauma does NOT give someone any right to dump that on anyone else. Rhysand was far, far more traumatized than Tamlin was and he didn’t do anything of the sort to Feyra. So yeah fuck Tamlin. I think he needed to be treated like this *SMALL SPOILER ALERT* to apologize and start treating Feyra with respect again once he encounters her later.

  • Little tid bit for Cari and everyone - when Amren says, “When I am free, don’t run. It will attract my attention.” That is 100% a reference to Peter S. Beagle’s novel “The Last Unicorn.” The unicorn says a similar line to Schmendrick the Magician (you won’t have heard of him) after they have freed a harpy (along with a bunch of non-magical creatures) from Mommy Fortuna’s Midnight Carnival and are trying to escape. “You must never run from anything immortal. It attracts their attention.” In the book, the unicorn, an immortal herself, is transformed into a human by a spell, and her love story is eventually thwarted by the need for her to transform back into her true form. I love that Amren is basically a dark, gothic love letter to that story. Maybe??? Ok that’s all! I love these vids! Thank you for making them!

  • Okay okay okay. Am I getting this right? Our protagonist uses her intimate knowledge of her former partner's trauma and weaknesses in order to manipulate him into a further mental spiral and thereby defeat him. And she's... a good person for this? Don't get me wrong, Tam Lin's arrogance and refusal to admit to a problem has made him an abusive person. But he seems to be more of a tragic anti-hero rather than an outright villain and driving him to further abuse isn't a good thing?? Didn't you love this man? Just because you're not 'in love' anymore doesn't mean you don't care about his well being anymore right? In another story this would be a cue toward wanting to save him from himself, or try and make him come back to the Light Side. Tam Lin has been absent a whole book, he's clearly not the main villain. Yes he's allying with the bad guy out of desperation and delusion but that does not make him irredeemable or deserving of this level of abuse? What... am I missing something or? This sort of betrayal and manipulation could very well break someone and drive them to suicide I don't- Yes he's done horrible things but so has Rhysand?

  • The dumb thing about Mor's coming out that pisses people of is that she, a 500+ year old immortal, does it to Feyre, a fucking 20 year-old who she has known for less than a year at this point and who has up to now (let's be honest here) proven herself to not be that good at interpersonal stuff or respecting boundaries, all while it's continually emphasised how close knit and friendly the Inner Circle are supposed to be with each other. Putting aside how incredibly dumb it is for a multi-centenarian character to act like a hormonal 15-year old in this situation, because that's unfortunately the norm in these books, I know it's supposed to communicate how close she and Feyre are now and how their friendship has progressed, but that just doesn't work when she's been together with all the Inner Circle people for so long. Like she never once felt that she could tell either Azriel or Cassian or even Amren about her attraction to women in the last 50 years they were all holed up in Velaris together? If she doesn't trust them well enough for that, they really can't be all that close as friends then, can they? Like it just looks kind of pathetic on her part, because seriously what is she afraid of there? Plus she's stringing Azriel along because of his feelings for HUNDREDS OF YEARS and she knows it. That's worse than immature, it's borderline evil. Due to SJM absolutely not giving a fuck about the context of this scene, the way this plays out in practise accidentally completely fucking destroys Mor's characterisation as a mature, competent and savvy political player and warrior who has her demons under control for the most part and it's the last nail in the coffin of the already shaky dynamic of the Inner Circle. Because after the reveal that Rhysand hides his nightmares from the others, Cassian's insubordination, Amren being herself and now the reveal that Mor was actively avoiding coming out to them (to the point where she slept with men as an alibi) FOR CENTURIES, it's pretty undeniable that all these people aren't just not really friends, but are pretty much strangers to each other on an emotional level.

She says she is a 'messenger,' which translates literally in both Hebrew and Greek to 'angel,' and that she was an assassin for a wrathful God. She drinks blood, and lamb is her favorite. When she goes hunting through Velaris, people leave blood at their doors to propitiate her. Calanmai is Beltane, the summer festival later on is Lughnasa, Miryam and Drakon live in Crete, everyone in northern isles mythology from King Arthur to Fionn mac Cumhaill is mentioned by myth in these stories. Look at the map. The story of the Harp being able to open doors to Other Places, and Angel of Death Amren, Koschei the Deathless Russian fairytale guy, Tarquin the High Lord of Summer with his Roman King name, Helion whose name is Greek for Sun, it's all meant to reflect our world. It's meant to be a place on the other side of the veil. It's meant to be faintly familiar. That's kind of the point.

  • Why do I remember this series being longer than just a trilogy? I think I've gotta blame it on how damn long this last one is... but hey, congratulations on finally making it here!

    • @@deusexmachina8984 I think those may have added to tricking my brain here too, lol. I did know about them, but for some reason I thought the main series had more! Might have just mixed them all together in my head

    • well technically there are 2 more books, A Court of Frost and Starlight as well as A Court of Silver Flames. ACOSF is more about Nesta and Cassian though. A Court Frost and Starlight is like the filler holliday episode in every anime.

  • I literally just consumed 9+ hours of content about a book I’ve never read and I was ENGAGED and loved every minute of it. I’d love it if you made a breakdown of the The Cruel Prince series that is kinda similar to this one

  • I remember watching readwithcindy’s reviews of these books and being like damn never gonna read those but the fairy dick sounds wild- glad I got to experience more of the book series and understand a bit more of the actual plot organization through your videos. You’ve been keeping me company as a podcast during work and it’s been a wild ride, thank you!

  • I'm usually too shy to comment on KZhead videos but I really just wanted to share how much I appreciate and loved this series of yours for the ACOTAR books! Back in 2015, I remember trying to read the first book when it got released and just didn't like it, so I DNF'ed it (my friend enjoyed it a lot though, but it just wasn't for me at the time). A year after that, I ended up in a reading slump and removed myself from the book world that lasted until late this year. Imagine my surprise when I came back and learned how big SJM books ended up being in today's internet world thanks to Tiktok, apparently lol. Most especially how insanely popular ACOTAR got! I remembered that I didn't like the first book, so I knew I didn't want to read the actual books (in case it brought my reading slump back which already took me a long time to get over), but I definitely still wanted to know what was up and how the rest of the series ended up going. That's how I discovered your videos on KZhead. I thoroughly enjoyed your video summaries and definitely feel like I read the books for myself! I don't think I would have enjoyed the experience as much if I decided reading the books for myself vs going through your videos instead. Now ACOTAR feels like a guilty pleasure to me, versus my opinion on it way back in 2015 when it felt like a slog to read.😆 Anyway, thank you again for doing such an amazing job of creating these videos for us!

  • Hi Cari! I wanted to express my gratitude to you for this series! I wish I could give you more (I’m but a humble barista), because this has not only given me hours of enjoyment, but also reignited my interest in the entire ACOTAR series. The way you convey the characters’ dialogue to the audience is so genuine and each character has a unique voice. You did amazing with this series and I can’t wait to see more plot summary videos, if you’d like to keep making them. Thanks again for giving us a more accessible introduction to, imo, a very fun and emotionally thrilling fantasy!
