So you want to know how Hail Damage is repaired with paintless dent repair.
Today I am going to show you the professional way that we take hail damage dents out from a car using PDR. There are some DIY Dent Repair methods that may work for you but most probably won't. You may have heard of using dry ice to take dents out or heating up the dent with a hairdryer and using a can of compressed cold air and that's gonna pop the dents out for you, maybe you can just pop them out with a plunger or suction cup. I have even heard people say they just leave it out in the hot sun and this will cause the dents to pop right out. The problem with these methods is you may run into issues with damaging the paint.
Using Paintless Dent Repair to take out the hail dents is the preferred method recommended by vehicle manufacturers and insurance companies.
First off you can see underneath the hood that there is a bigger dent that is out in the open. We've got a special PDR tool with special tips on it that we use to get on the underside of the panel and then we will likely just push up the metal.
With this method of paintless dent repair you could try to do-it-yourself but if you don't have any experience with it could be difficult because of the hand-eye coordination that is needed. We use our special PDR lights to know exactly where we are pushing the dent from underneath and we make several small little tiny pushes pushing up every little spot.
Some people have come to me and said they tried to remove the hail dents themselves and they have just caused further damage that may not be able to repair anymore with PDR. What happens is if you get in there and you push on the dent and you think you just gonna pump it out you actually bust the paint by pushing too hard or you can make little marks in the paint or in the metal from pushing too much.

The Bob Ross of dent removal.
😄
That’s a Pretty Lil Bush ! - Bob Ross
Tons of tent hail repair places opened up here in Texas after the hail storm. I’ve always wondered how they take care of those dents.
Thanks for watching how paintless dent repair is used to fix hail damage. Many times when there is a large storm, there will be many PDR techs that will come into town to help with the large amount of damaged cars.
Insurance In Canada writes all these cars off. Cost of PDR is insane, so they call it a day and write you a cheque.
@1:40 Did anyone notice the several Kilo's of Hash used as sound proofing? lol
HA! I was on bricks of weed... but yeah, me, too.
no, i thought it was the engine!
lol I was just sitting here watching and shit a brick when I saw it at first..... I realized it was formed styrofoam, but still!!!!!
this guy is clearly an expert in with paintless dent repair. Just based on how he took the time to explain, I would definitely choose excel dent removal
Thank You +Wade Parker
This is the best PDR video, thank you for demonstrating both angles.
me with my camaro that i just bought with 70+ hail dents: 👁👄👁
I've got like 4 in my car and 3 are on the roof. One is on the hatch which I'm replacing the panel due to other damage.
My e36 that I’m putting an rb25 in is basically covered in hail damage I wanna say over 500 dents
Finally a legit explanation and this here man is the real deal. Excellent video! I wish all vendors were like you.
👊 Thanks!!
By far one of the best ive seen. To see top and bottom views is just awsome..Thank you for explaining and posting. Ill be subscribing.
Thank you! I appreciate the great comment. I just published a new video that shows the repair from both sides. ➡️ Check it out kzhead.info/sun/a8OreMyGg6aDjXk/bejne.html
Very interesting explanation of how hail dents are removed
So that's how it's done. Thank you for posting.
Awesome, clarified & straight-forward explanation in a nutshell, thanks for posting!!
Appreciate it! Thanks for checking on the video. I’ve got more on the channel. With new ones coming out. Subscribe if you would like to see them. 👍
That is an awesome way to do a repair like that. Thanks you for sharing!
Very nicely done and expertly explained - Excel Dent Removal knows their stuff. Brilliant demo - Thanks for posting.
👏🏼👏🏼Very well put together explaining the entire process of removing a dent for the customer! Awesome job guys!
Thanks! I've had many customers tell me they appreciated the video showing the process of hail damage repair.
Thanks for the vid. This seems to be the most SENSIBLE method.
Best explanation I've seen, thank you:) Going to be doing this for the first time next week with this technique
That's Great! If this is your first time trying PDR, then I would suggest practicing on a scrap car or panel instead of a newer car. Just so that more damage is not caused. Good Luck!
Great video with excellent information on how hail damage is repaired using paintless dent removal.
+AdPro Media Solutions Thanks for Watching!
Excel Dent Removal But how can you fix dents on the roof of the car? Remove all the upholstery or something? What about dents on plastic trim pieces??
The plastic parts of a car are less likely to get dents. If they do, some can be removed with PDR. Other times they just get replaced. This video shows how I removed a dent in a plastic bumper. kzhead.info/sun/jZuendRtrmuLl5s/bejne.html
Hey +Smart Feller , Great Question. Thanks for asking. When having to repair dents that are in the roof panel of a car, we do have to remove the interior headliner. This can be done and put back together without any damage when done by a professional with experience. Here is a video that shows how we repair dents in the roof of a car. kzhead.info/sun/l6WQc92wqpmkfGg/bejne.html This video shows a headliner being removed from a truck. kzhead.info/sun/q8WGidWorIGfqYE/bejne.html
Awesome video only one that actually taught me how
I learned a lot!! The best lesson I learned is to let a professional like this guy do the work. Who has the time , the lights , tools, and shop to do this type of work without damaging paint?? I replace hail damaged roofs and homeowners are particular about their roofs, if you think they will be relaxed for a novice to work on their vehicles than I have a mountain range here in Colorado I would like to sell , includes mineral rights....
Thanks for the comment. I appreciate that!
Thank you. Its very simple but needs a lot of tools and a lot of practice. :)
Thanks!
Excellent presentation! Well done! Best of luck!
Thank You!!
Hey that's not that far from Chippewa Falls. Too bad I moved back to Texas. I might attempt this myself. Thanks for the video, I found it to be educational.
Best demonstration on youtube. Plus you are very good at your craft too. Thanks
Thanks!! +Telelikeitis I am glad you enjoyed it and were able to learn from watching. You can see some other dents being repaired on my channel.
Great video and quality workmanship.
Thanks!! +Tim Dyar
Best video by far!! Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video and thank you for the detailed explanation.
Thanks for watching!
Learn something new every day :)
Awesome guy. Very informative & friendly. Thanks 🙏
+Papa Nono Thanks!!
Very helpful. I inherited my late father's convertible and unfortunately it took some hail damage, the worst of it on the hood (thank goodness for soft tops). Going to give it a go to repair the worst of it where accessible and perhaps have the pros take a look at the rest. Very useful video you've presented here, thanks for posting.
I have the same story As you l have inherited a car from my grandfather I now want to get the car fixed properly
This is the best explanation. Thanks!
Thank You! I appreciate it! I’ve had many people come to our PDR shop here in Blaine from the recent hail storm in the St Paul Minnesota area and say how much the video has helped them understand the dent repair process for hail repair. They have said it helps them feel confident that we can properly repair their car for them.
Excellent!! Thank You!!!!
my brand new 2017 Jetta was in a hail storm. had like 27 hail dents i think. they popped all of them out last week. my car was ready the next morning, and now she looks brand new again! amazing how they can do this without repainting the car.
That was awesome I always wondered how this was done. That guy knew what he was doing!
Thanks! I appreciate the great comment.
This a good video. I remember watching it a couple years ago. Lots of views!
Thanks for watching!! I've found it helps to share how we really repair dents. So that others can better understand what it takes for a proper repair.
very good best guy i've seen showing & explaining how, onya mate!
Wow, thanks!
Thank you for this. Gonna give it a shot.
Pulling a small dent out of car door
Nice technique on removing that hail damage from the hood of that truck. Thanks for showing that demonstration.
Thanks! +Patrick
Thank you for the short tutorial.
Thanks for Watching!
Amazing work!
Thanks a lot!
That's why there's youtube, now, and for some time to come. 👌
I was successful pulling a dent that was in a large rear quarter panel using a large amount of hot water and a plunger. It only took a small amount of force to pull it out. I did have to do it a second time because I let go before the metal had cooled. No cracks. But this was mine.
The hot sun in the summer actually removed most of the hail dents on my Toyota Supra. I live in Texas, however. I made a point to park it outside all summer. I had extensive hail damage and my insurance dropped the car from our policy (bumped to liability!) After all of the hail damage is now fixed (by mother nature) I will be shopping for another policy!
Owner of a 97 supra myself...
What!? I've never heard of that! I'm in Texas to and my vehicle got plummeted by hail and I'm shopping around because most shops want to replace my roof, hood, doors, whole thing and take 20-30 days to do it! My insurance will only cover a rental for 2 weeks.. It's just a lot to take in. So most of the dents popped out?? Amazing!
+lovelylouro You will want to look for a company that specializes in Paintless Dent Repair or request that the body shop use paintless dent removal as much as possible for the repair of your car.
Thank you!
ellie4cats stop fucking lying . I live close to dallas tx I have a car lot and I buy cars that sit in the sun and hail never fixed. That's stupid and I think your car is fucked and your hoping if you say it enough it might come true but it wont .
Amazing stuff, thank you!
Thank you too!
Hail yeahhh! brilliant! Excellent video.
Thanks!!
Good video like your way teaching 👍
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback.

haha! finally found a KZhead channel by me! I strongly recomend going to the professionals! I have a 2013 F-150 that got hit by hail damage about a year ago. I thought the truck was totaled. Because professionals used the techniques that this gentleman has shown the truck looks flawless as if it was never hit by a single thing. Give these guys a call the headaches not worth it! great video!
Thanks for commenting +Martin Olson

Thanks for checking out the hail repair video. +Dent Time - San Diego Dent & Bumper Repair
That's interesting to watch. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing your skill and knowledge. You’re the best! More blessings to you!🙏
I appreciate that!
I’m am not a professional but, I do it all myself. Comes out perfect every time. Plenty of practice cause I have teenage drivers.
That's good to know. If you can get some perfect results every time, then it might be a good idea to connect with a local company to help them out and make some extra money on the side.
You are a master!
Thanks!
nice video thanks
Thanks!
Great job
Thanks!
greate vídeo .
Nice job. Thx
Thanks!!
That is perfection.. Amazing skill.
👊Thanks!!
I was always curious how this was done. Just got damage this weekend in Texas, now I feel better about the process. I always thought it was some cheesy method with a blowtorch...WRONG! LOL
Yes, there a many videos and sites that mention *how to repair hail damage* . Most of those techniques do not work and they are not the way that professional paintless dent repair is done. Thanks for watching and the comment!!
I was caught in the same storm. I was worried my car is going to be totalled :(
Just liked, video can be found now
This guy knows his stuff
excelente video soy de Perú donde lo venden
I learned how to repair hail damage
no you didnt .. pay up!
LOL. I had gone to a local Tented Hail Repair place that set up after we had hail. Lots of cars.... The number and shapes of rods was amazing, as was the lights used. My wife's 13 Lacrosse has a lot of fairly small dents, but she opted to not get them fixed as she has $1000. deductible and it would cost her either way....but the thing that you could have added to make your business sell more is the damage to the TOP of the car. Where you have to remove the lining, etc, to show what needs to be done to even get to those pesky little and large dents. More to the work than it looks like.
+Kenneth Dandurand Thanks for checking out my video. You can see the other videos on my channel that show how we remove dents from the roof kzhead.info/sun/l6WQc92wqpmkfGg/bejne.html and how we remove a headliner to access the roof for hail repair kzhead.info/sun/q8WGidWorIGfqYE/bejne.html
there are a ton of hail damaged cars here in Colorado where I live, i want to get into selling hail damaged services like this to make some sweet moolah , but most companies i have seen are like some roofing companies that magically appear when hail storms hit...some have been around for less than a year , anyone know of any credible companies that do PDR and do it well with good reviews in Denver?
Omg no way you’re in Blaine!!! What are the odds I am right next door! I might just stop by now and not try it myself 😂
You should stop by! It might save you the trouble of trying to fix all those dings yourself.
Amazing
Thanks
Vedic on fixing a no start or crank, total dead no horn etc all on 2006 Honda Accord
great video though! I just bought a brand new truck 2 weeks before a huge hail storm hit last week.
+Ryan Meeks You must be from San Antonio too!
+Victor M lol yup. I was on the north side by i10 axed 1604. lucky it wasn't as bad as the east side over by Kirby
Yeah, I live north central. just put a new roof on last year and it just got totaled. Truck and Suburban both got dinged pretty good too.
exact same thing happened to me. in northeast kansas tho. just bought a pdr kit from ebay
I don't give a fuck I'm gonna do this myself it seems learnable, and it saves me thousands of thousands of thousands of thousands of dollars
Great! There are new people learning how to do these type of repairs every day. It might even be something you would enjoy doing. Let me know if you need any recommendations for tool companies. There are several to choose from and some of the best tools come from each different company.
THANK YOU! You actually showed underneath what you were doing unlike many other videos here. I would like to learn this myself. When you are pushing are you pushing right in the middle of the dent or do you start from the edge of the dent and work in? Also where do you buy the tools and what brands or ones do you use? Thanks
Thanks! Most times we start in the center of the dent. There are some times we will start on the edge but this will be a crease. It all depends on the damage. I have tools from A1 Tool, Dentcraft tools, Edgy Tools, Pro PDR Solutions and a few others.
@@exceldentremoval Thank you.
Awesome video! My car just got pounded today. If I lived in Blaine instead of Denver, I'd schedule an appointment to bring it over. 😩
Thanks! I appreciate that. I just saw the reports of all the hail damage in the Denver area today. What area are you in? I have connections with some of the best paintless dent repair companies around the country. I can message you their info.
12GaugePadawan I could use some resources bro im in Lakewood area
Organic_GrowLife Hey, I'll try to get a couple for you to check out.
That'd be awesome! I'm here in the Central Denver area, but anything in the Denver Metro would be great since everything in the Denver Metro area is only a 30 minute drive. :)
+12GaugePadawan I sent you a message through KZhead. Check it for your info.
Thanks for the video; is there any risks of damaging the clear coat whit this process? It might be noticeable now, but would the paint/clear coat be impervious to color change for years to come? Thanks again!! CJM
Not at all. I’ve been doing PDR for over 20 years. I’ve never had anyone come back because of a problem with the repair. I’ve even had cars that I’ve fixed with dents or hail multiple times over the years. I’ve been able to reinspect them. And there are no signs of the previous repairs being done.
Do you recommend glue pulling on aluminum? I'm kinda stuck on a 18 or 19 f150 king ranch pfdoor! Right now I'm stuck with a thumbnail size moon shape
Glue pulling can work on aluminum but it is much more difficult and limited on a sharp dent. If you are working on a door, I would try to get a tool behind the dent to work it out. You may have to try tapping down the dent and starting over if possible. Once the aluminum is pulled wrong it is difficult to fix it.
Hello! I love your video, I've been wanting to learn how to do paintless dent removal. Where is this technique taught and how much you reckon a specialist gets paid by a shop to do this work?
There are a few options for paintless dent repair training. One are “training schools” where you get 1-2 weeks of basic skills training. They may also supply some basic tools. After this training you will ha r to practice for at least 6 months to two years to get good enough to work on customers cars and get good results. The other option is to get training from an experienced tech that can train for 1 - 4 weeks. This will be the basics but can also offer some more advanced training. Either at the same time or in the future after some “at home” practice. As far as tech pay. This can vary. Some places may pay hourly and others on a commission basis. Most techs are independent companies and work for themselves.
If you are interested in learning more about PDR. I would suggest checking out Dent Trainer. They have an online monthly subscription where you can see if it is something you want to pursue and may be able to practice on a few dents to see if it is something you can do.
Hi...i just bought a 2005 Toyota Corolla and didn't realize when i bought it, that it looks like it may have some hail damage, maybe small hail, that pockmarked the paint, and the paint has come off and there is rust in the small spots...Is the only way to cover those up, (for the protection of the paint peeling and rusting), to get a paint job, or is there a DIY way to do it....?....i can't afford a paint job....Thank you....
There are 2 possibilities with this damage. 1. There could be dirt or contamination in the bottom of the dents. This would just need to be cleaned out. 2. The hail caused severe damage to the paint and chipped it. This would require it to be repainted to completely fix it. If it has already started to rust, just covering it up will not stop the rust from getting worse. It would need to be sanded and removed.
In what scenarios would you have to heat the diameter? I see a lot of videos with technicians doing that.
Heating is to bring the panel to an ideal working temp. This can be because the panel is cold, the dent is sharp, to help keep the paint flexible, or for helping with aluminum.
Excel Dent Removal very good video. Do you recommend using glue pulling tools to remove hail dent on aluminum hood, what is the best tools to remove hail dent on aluminum hood?
+roberto gutierrez Thanks! Glue pulling aluminum dents can be very difficult. The metal does not react the same as steel. While it can be done, it can take many try’s to get it out. And usually only works for very small dings. I’d prefer to push them out from behind the panel if it’s possible. Aluminum hoods usually require some extra, consistent heat on the dent to help make it easier to push out and usually a sharper Pdr tool with presise pushes.
@@exceldentremoval thank you, I really appreciate your videos, you are a professional
where do you find the kit for under the brace dents
The tools is usually use for fixing hail dents are from either Anson PDR, Dent Craft PDR Tools, or from A1 PDR Tools. They have some tools sets or individual tools for hail dent repair.
Would love a recommendation for the Albuquerque area. A few shops I called want to do a claim. I'd like to pay since it happened before I purchased the vehicle
Hey. I don’t have anyone at the moment in that area. I’m trying to check with my community and see if there is someone I can send you to. Otherwise, just let the shops know that you are paying for the repair. The insurance won’t cover the damages anyway if they happened before you owned the car.
If you can receive messages through YT. I’ll send you a number for someone in the area. Or you can contact me on Facebook and I’ll send it there.
I was able to fix a couple of large bumper dents with a heat gun - after heating, I just reached under the body and pushed the dents out with my fingers.
Yes. That method works great for dents in plastic. Not so much for the metal panels. I even have a video on my channel showing how to remove a large dent in a bumper.
It takes forever! Im learning glue pulling. Im pretty much terrible with the rods at the moment. However i am getting quarter size dings down to a pinchmark the size of a dime often. PDR is very hard and im pretty good with my hands, sculpting, etc and struggling. I wanted to let a pro do it but my car wasnt worth much just cause of age. It was in near perfect condition before the hail storm. Rear bumper clearcoat was starting to fade and thats it. Anyway my insurance totalled the car due to the amount of tiny dings. After buying it back i realized its a salvage title now so i have to get it inspected....lol. No broken windows just about 400 dime to baseball size dings. But needs inspection and rebuilt title in order to be registered. So after about no joke 30 hours of glue pulling and 4 hours of rod nonsense its starting to look good. Sadly i overpulled some dents and made some oil cans in the beggining and will have to drop my headliner to get somthing like a wedge anvil in there to pound the nonsense down but better. I would say equivilent to the best of the worst new pdr techs....lol.
Glue pulling dents was never the standard method of PDR. It all started with rods and hammers. It's best to learn and understand metal movement from pushing before ever using glue to fix dents. But it sounds like you had some success. Which is good. I spent 40-50 hours a week for about 6 months of training and practice before I was consistent on removing even small dings.
@@exceldentremoval glad to hear that. Pdr is very hard. Very labor intensive, very risky as well seeing all the things that can break. I was thinking about changing careers and doing some type of pdr training but a came to the realization the jobs will only be nice cars of arrogant a holes getting pdr done outside insurance.
Can you get hail dents out of exterior black chrome window trim with your paint less dent repair?
It might be possible if the dents are very minor and shallow. But often the trim just gets replaced when it is damaged by hail.
@@exceldentremoval Thanks
How do you do dents in the roof? Remove the inside padding of the ceiling?
Yes. For access to the back of the roof panel would require dropping down the headliner. You can see an explanation in this video here ➡️ kzhead.info/sun/q8WGidWorIGfqYE/bejne.html
What about a dent in the bonnet that protrudes outward. Some mechanic left a tool under the bonnet of my car and forgot about it when the bonnet was closed. It caught the brace and made an outward dent. Hammer and a bit of wood?
I have repaired many dents or damage like that. I usually need to use a sharp knockdown and hammer or even one of my metal knock down tips. Sometimes I can flatten it out smooth. Other times I'll have to make it into a dent and then repair the dent using PDR tools. From there it may often need to be lightly sanded and buffed out to bring it back smooth. If the damage is from the brace pushing it up, then a similar method would be used. But it may require moving the brace or repairing it so that the metal can be tapped back down without the brace still pushing it up.
So if you do an entire care, does it look brand new again? Or are there still waves in paint? I just bought a new suv and have to park outside, and I’m paranoid of hail lol.
Yes. We’ve repaired thousands of vehicles with hail damage using paintless repair and they are as good as new. You’ll always just want a company that does excellent work and not cut corners with their repairs.
Great information! How much does this cost? Do paintless dent repair places charge by the dent?
Thanks! When a hail storm damages a car the cost can vary depending on multiple factors. While every dent per panel is taken into account. It will usually be an average cost to repair the panel depending on how many dents there are and the severity of dents size. You can find more info about hail damage repair at these articles. www.exceldentremoval.com/how-is-auto-hail-damage-repair-done-with-paintless-dent-removal/ www.exceldentremoval.com/auto-hail-damage-claims-5-tips-you-need-to-know/ www.exceldentremoval.com/does-car-insurance-cover-hail-damage/

Yes! Most average hail damage can be done with paintless dent repair.

What about on spots where you cant get the special pdr tool underneath the dents?
For hail damage dents that are under a brace. We use other tools that get access between and above the bracing. You can see it done in this video ▶️ kzhead.info/sun/e8Wco9GMZIaurIU/bejne.html

Hello.where are the first pushes ?? In the center ?
Yes, typically the center or the bottom of the dent is pushed up first.
HI there, will this work on an aluminium hood?
+danagboi Yes. Paintless dent repair does work to remove dents from aluminum panels.
