    • For real. The LITERALLY first time I went to a mechanic because I hat misfires, he told me it was most likely the distributor and or sparkplugs. He told me it was difficult to do and all in all would cost me about 300 bucks. We made out an appointment and the very same day I made my research to find out that the parts if I bought them myself would cost me 70 tops. Not to mention how easy it actually was to replace. Sufficed to say I didn't show up to that appointment

    • @@barneystinson6331 Good for you! Not everyone has the gumption to research something like that, let alone take on the task of performing the work themselves. I learned to work on cars not out of interest, but out of necessity; I had no money to pay a mechanic. With time, it did end up being something I enjoyed, and similar to Chris' reaction here, when you fix something and you get to see/hear it run...it is euphoric.

    • @@mrarmy8744 Y'all really don't know what you're talking about and don't know shit about cars, do you? It's pretty freaking simple. Because a mechanic has to provide a warranty. And just by looking under that valve cover, this thing is NOT going to run for a long time, or even run great. It did not have the required oil changes for a long time. That engine needs proper maintenance, what you've seen under the valve cover is a BIG SYMPTOM of a MUCH bigger issue. Imagine how the crankshaft bearings are if the cam and rockers are looking like that. That engine needs a rebuild and thorough clean, at the very least. I expect the bearings won't be looking too good either. He got the engine to run, but he didn't completely fix all of its problems.

Good thing it was a non-interference engine otherwise would be valve or valve and piston damage. Makes timing belt checks/changes very important on these types of engines.

  • This video is absolutely perfect for basics, but two things to note if you are trying to diagnose a no start vehicle; On some newer cars, the immobilizer can cause a no start, and can be hard to check without a professional/dealer workshop If the timing is out, some vehicles run interference engines, meaning valves can be bent, which would be diagnosed through the engine compression test, but important to know this.

    • I towed my Miata to a spec Miata shop when it broke down, to do a timing belt job. They did it wrong, broke my camshaft, and replaced the camshaft wrong too (caps were out of order). They sent the car back to me after 3 months not running, and charged me an arm and a leg for their work. If anybody knows Miatas, it's them, right? Nope, they failed. I took it apart myself and had it running in 2 days. The new cam was unfortunately beyond saving (it was scored to the point that is was binding to the caps even in the right order) and it broke in half on the highway, taking the head with it. I sold the car with a blown motor. What did I learn from that? It's best to work on your own car, Chrisfix style! I don't trust anybody with my cars anymore, so I do everything myself so I know exactly how every nut and bolt on my car was treated.

But if most mechanics werent liars, thieves and untrustworthy, we wouldnt have to find out how to do it ourselves. a good honest mechanic is so hard to find. i remember when i was young, my mother got ripped off by a mechanic, they broke a sparkplug off in the engine, then made my mother pay to fix their mistake. can u imagine?!

Clear and simple to the point 3. Explained ln very simple detail and what the job requires He’s literally taught me a few things as well and maintained in my memory for future projects definitely one of the best I seen and that’s coming from a guy who’s worked next to master techs and body repair men. Keep up the good work man your teachings is very professional simple and gives people a better understanding on many different areas that you go over on vehicles if that’s mechanical diagnostics to body repair for the at home joe A+ rating in my book

      @geoffreycasey875@geoffreycasey8753 жыл бұрын
    • @@geoffreycasey875 The comment I was looking for, Chris was extremely lucky that the valves never contacted, as you know it's an interference engine. 9/10 times when that timing belt skips a sprocket tooth it's game over.. I mean the money Chris got from this video alone is worth way, way more than that engine so maybe he loosened the belt just to make a video.. hate to think people do things like that but we all know it happens on KZhead..
