How good was Gianluigi Lentini actually? #GOAT
New video about one of the most controversial and naturally talented players we've seen over the 1990's in football. In this episode we take on Gianluigi Lentini who played for AC Milan, Atalanta and Torino for most of his career.
Very nice video. I'm from Turin, the year after Lentini was sold to AC Milan, Torino won the Coppa Italia. The last trophy of its history
Yeah I noticed that, shame he couldn't be involved
History isn't done yet
Lies again? Serie A Leader

Torinoooo💪
I first learned about Lentini and how highly rated he was through the video game Sensible Soccer. He was one of the standout players in the AC Milan team in that game. I had to look him up online to find out more because during the 2000s virtually nobody was talking about him. I guess by that stage he was playing in the lower tiers of Italian football and his still ongoing story was deemed too sad to talk about. It is really tragic how the talent he once had was lost because of a spare tire and him rushing to get back somewhere. That’s why I hate having to rush for things. If something unexpected happens it’s usually better to wear the consequences of being late than it is to risk a traffic accident
Sensible Soccer on the Amiga...fun times.
@@Raydensheraj SWOS on Amiga was something special...PC version was not even close
Lentini had a very good season in the first year at Milan. That Milan side had one of the best squads of all times. P.Maldini, F.Baresi, Costacurta, Tassotti, Eranio, Albertini, Rijkaard, Donadoni, Lentini, Boban, Massaro, Simone, Gullit (1987 Ballon d'Or), Van Basten (3 times Ballon d'Or), Papin (1991 Ballon d'Or), Savicevic (second classified at Ballon d'Or in 1991)...
This team puts Madrid Galacticos to shame
Sebastiano Rossi was also an extremely good goalkeeper
@@jeremyslaney5644 One thing Italy wasn't short in the 90's was good GK's, Rossi, Pagliuca, Peruzzi, Toldo and later the great Buffon.
@@tiga8032 the italian national team goalkeeper at time was Walter Zenga and he was a good one
@@RicardoVardasca yes he was great too. Italian League was also the best at the time
Remember the signing and the amount which astonished everyone outside Italian football. Saw him play a few times for Italy and Milan and never understood what the hype was about - now I understand why. Had no idea he played to his mid forties. Fasinating and inspiring.
Yeah I was in shock when I realized he retired so late despite the whole car crash situation
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT He mate your whole vid is fake af. Please respond. Wiki is all fake is it? He miraculously went into a coma? missed the part where he had a crash a fractured his skull. I BET you dont' respond.
To explain the hype you gotta search for his skills and goals before the incident. He was a beast, fast, strong, skilled, able to score in every way ( headers, kicks from outside the box, acrobatic shots, etc...). He dribbled a lot and made great crosses. He had everything except the luck and the brain. When he crashed on the highway he was running to bang Totò Schillaci's ( 1990wc azzurri striker) wife. Women were his drug 🤷♂️

Awesome video. I remember that UEFA cup final, but from the other side as an Ajax supporter. Impressive to see this story, also the cup final story from the Torino point of view
Actually Lentini became like an urban myth, for example I heard a few times that his memory loss made his brain "erase" his football talent
Seemed his reactions slowed and his balance was never quite the same. Such a shame

Top player. Always watch him on Channel 4 on Italian games. If he had not got injured know nobody would have heard of Roberto Baggio or Schallacci he was that good.
Crazy how it all went
I remember reading about Lentini in a UK newspaper when I was around 13 years of age. He was the biggest transfer ever at the time and I was in disbelief that somebody could be worth (reported to be) £12m. I told friends at school and nobody believed me. Now, £12m gets you nothing.
I learn a lot from you. And this was also a very interesting piece.
Happy new year sir, many thanks for yet another deep and interesting video. I’m cutting onions, honestly! 😉
Happy new year! I'm glad you found it interesting! ❤️
It's funny how you sometimes read a title and you know exactly about who that video is going to be. I still remember reading about his recordbreaking Transfer to Milan in the Newspaper and People being apalled by the money thrown around, but i never knew how the story continued. I just thought he's one of those one season wonders who never reach their level again once they move top a big club - following foreign football was far more diffult back then. Now I finally know. Fantastic choice to cover that incredible story.
So passionate as usual
Holy f*** this was such a wild ride! Excellent video, what a story. I feel bad for not knowing anything about Lentini, and honestly, Torino's history gives so much credence to karma.

The conversion is not accurate. 30 billions of liras equal roughly 15 millions of euros not 380 millions
I don't know if his calculations are right, but you should adjust for inflation otherwise you don't get the real value of what those money could buy at the time.
It is right
@@UTJK. Even adjusted for Inflation it amounts to maybe twice as much. He is off more than a factor of 10.
@@stefanmaier1853 sure, but maybe he didn't do an equivalence between the currency at the time and the currency today. He may have searched for the value of the player in today's market... For example if Lentini's cost was 30% higher than the previous most expensive of his time, you could take the most expensive player of today and calculate the 130% of his price to have the value of Lentini in today's market.
@@stefanmaier1853 ok, I did the math. With 13 million pounds, Lentini was 8% more expensive than the previous most expensive player (Vialli, 12 millions). The most espensive players of today was Neymar, 200 millions pounds from Barcelona to PSG according to Wikipedia. So the hypothetic transfer of Lentini today would be worth around 210 millions pounds as stated in the video (200 millions times 108% is 208 millions).
Never herd of him before today thanks for showing me him 👍🏻

Also went to the top of african football in the 80s and 90s and then a terrible air crash saw them lose all their best players in 1993 in a world cup qualifier. The captain did not board the plane and was tasked to rebuild the team to qualify for the 1994 world cup which this missed by like one point. They were still in the african cup of nations and the team that rose from the ashes made it to the final against Nigeria and unfortunately lost. Eventually in 2012 they won the african cup of nations. I am south African and I feel that this should definitely be part of footballing history.
