  • This is a little place I've been going for a few decades now and the dam has always been in this deteriorating State and the signs that went up is just a form of laziness instead of unclogging the problem. The reason the dam is in a failing state in the first place is because they allow this clog to form overtime and in the winter the high water freezes breaking the dam. If they would just keep up with maintenance the deterioration would have never happened.

    • Hey Post10, great job on that clog. I was wondering if that was silt built up in a cone before the spillway or was that poured concrete? When the water was blasting I didn’t see as much of it go away as I had expected which led me to think it was concrete? Will you be going back and clearing the debris below the dam this week too? Maybe you should bring a picnic lunch for you and your lady friend? 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😉

    • To be fair, the problem looks to be a lot worse than just a clog, and Post 10 said so himself: the wooden bridge is rotten and falling apart, and the concrete's deteriorated to the point that the walkway would be risky even if the water wasn't cresting over it. The whole dam will probably have to be re-done or at the very least heavily refurbished, and that's the kind of effort that takes a minute to manage, especially when you consider the fact that infrastructure country-wide's been deteriorating for years due to neglect and financial issues.

      @LabTech41@LabTech412 жыл бұрын

  • When I was a kid, we had a very small stream that ran through the farm. During the drought days, it still trickled like a creek. But sometimes, we'd walk up the hill and it would be blocked and we'd unblock it and the water ran smoothly again. It came down the mountain and ran into a culvert and across and down the property until it met our farm. So when it was unblocked we had nice clean water to use for the garden. I'm surprised that more people don't go out and unclog these. Just as he did in this video. Don't they wonder why their water has slowed down or stopped? When I saw that water gush, wow. That's water power.

Honestly, you're like on community volunteer that travels four states in the surrounding area to make nature more compatible for wildlife and humans to co exist. It's a real shame that those in charge of that trail would rather close a trail area. Than clean it up so it remains passable. In this world and time. Sometimes getting into a wildlife area just for a hike. Can help alleviate the stress and pressure of how we're living in this world of today. • Was thinking the same. As those in charge prefer to have machines do the work instead of "risk" a worker getting a back injury or swept away, image if an excavator or back hoe lifted that bridge out of the way and then took out the clog and put the bridge back. How long would it take even an averagely skilled driver to do this. About the same time it took to erect that sign. Would the dam be in better shape if those in charge of it hadn't waited for Mr 10 to do the job for them. Post 10 needs to get paid for what he does. How much is being paid to those supposed to be doing the job.

Cause, the USFS sure as hell doesn't, and pulling the beaver dam won't make that path safe. That's the problem with dams, everyone loves the benefits it provides but balk at the cost it takes to keep them maintained and safe. I'm sure as heck not going to let people on it if it looks like it will fail at any moment. I'll post a sign, and the people can assess it themselves whether they want to risk dying on it or not.

  • The people are absolutely delighted with what you have done here in clearing this beaver dam. This is a very interesting video presentation and we were especially impressed at how powerful that water outlet is. One wonders why the authorities do not use it to generate electricity, this would help towards the payment towards the trail upkeep. We know that the hikers will be very appreciative of the work that you have done here.

    @johnsmart964@johnsmart9642 жыл бұрын
