Gas Station Suprise! (Sleeper TURBO RX8)
Gas Station Suprise! (Sleeper TURBO RX8) was exactly that, a complete and total surprise! Pulling up to the pumps of this Aussie petrol station, we saw a couple clean looking rotaries but we had NO IDEA they were even modded at all! Once the drive popped the bonnet and we saw that massive GT45 turbo bolted to that almost equal size 20B rotary engine, our jaws dropped. Talk about a serious sleeper! After the driver gave us a few bits about the car, including the fact that it looks completely stock but puts out nearly 750hp, we HAD to get a ride in it. Lucky for us the driver was willing to not only oblige our addiction, but he was willing to put on a show for us too! We don’t run into a lot of rotaries done this well, but when they are done right they really earn some serious respect!

That whole drivetrain is totally illegal. You can't even put an older motor in a newer car. Wouldn't pass emissions. Even the inspection station that is registering that car is breaking the law. It's pretty ridiculous over here. I had to fit a windscreen washer to get my 1950's car regoed with a turbo.
Dude, I love living here, but really there are some major downsides in the car scene. Everything you guys have costs literally DOUBLE by the time it gets here. For large items think TRIPLE the price. Our population is so small it can't sustain the aftermarket you have. Every major city is 1000km from one another. Worst of all, the local laws are just Nanny state out of control. Decent fuel is $6/gallon. That car is probably a $100,000 investment and it can't be legally registered. And then there is the cost of living. Average house price in Sydney is nearly 1 million dollars. Yes, you read that right. Also, we didn't get most of the best JDM cars. They have to be imported and that's a disaster to get registered too.
New Zealand has the same variety of cars but is way more lax on import laws and modifications

MostlyIrishCarGuy I enjoy RX8s for what they are though... I think the car doesnt deserve a mod like that... Its too expensive in a car made for the daily driver. Personally the most I would ever do to my 8 would be a complete 13Bt twin turbo build (and twin because I can)... Potentially make some ITBs with it... Nothing more. I enjoy the 8 for what it is, stock its basically the Celica Supra of today!

Andrew Walker How is it not? The Rx8 is a revamp of the Rx7. If you don't think a RX7 is a sports car you need to rethink about your life. The RX7 was one of the staples of the 90's of what a "perfect" sports luxury car was. Hell even in the 80's the FC was sold as a luxury sports car. Not to mention the RX8 was sold as a sports car from Mazda in the Auto show when it was revealed.

Rozza43 Zero torque, that’s what’s possible with an NA rotary.
Don't listen to these fucksticks. N/A 20bs are very well capable. They can put out around 400+HP to the wheels on pump fuel, when well built and ported. Even heard that stock port 20bs tuned right make almost 300. Reliability isn't much of an issue when n/a.
I'm not a huge rotary fan but they are extremely reliable NA. Will be around 400 wheel with a decent build and still reliable. Turbos rotangs though.. fuck that.

Aside from the insance turbo w/ a 3 rotor, I noticed that it had the series 2 R3 exterior but a series 1 interior. Didn't know the fitments for both series were the same

@@2005blackpearl My own interpretations is that they mean the exhaust manifold. It still makes no sense that the floor pan falls out, but put a temp sens in the exhaust manifold and a simple script on a laptop that says "IF temp >= (whatever temp) THEN Cout: "Danger to manifold" " Still doesnt really make sense on a piston engine, because the pistons would fry before the manifold, but the RX7 and RX8 have a temperature warning for the pre CAT exhaust so it doesn't damage the floor or set the carpet on fire.
