I think there is a degree in which people are so focused on their small, insignificant problems that they hurt themselves more. I know AJR themselves wont see this but..... I have a really amazing friend who introduced me to AJR last few days ago and I already love it, it's so fun, relatable and so interesting, I personally love I won't, Steve's going to London and Drama and honestly they've done an incredible job, I know I'd never see them live but seeing such a close and heartfelt group of friends makes me think that they're still is good in this world, weather it comes in the form of an animal or an Adam, Jack or Ryan it makes a difference in our universe, our world and our community and I would like to say that you've done and amazing job and don't listen to anyone who hates or tries changing your music just tell them that you wouldn't, love you guys ❤️

What I've gathered is that this song is about how you shouldn't compare your sorrows to others. The violin is his sorrow, bc he talks of playing it for his therapist. He calls it the smallest because he downplays his struggles, so to him they seem small next to others'. If you're struggling, your struggles are valid. Even if someone has it worse, your struggles are still valid.

Comparing your problems with other people's doesn't help if the others have less or less serious problems and if they have more serious problems it can make many people feel worse for themselves because now they feel they don't deserve to feel bad or complain about their own problems. Truth is, everyone has problems, everyone's problems are valid and everyone should be able to express their problems to someone and receive support, instead of judgement like "People in Africa are starving to death and you complain about having homework to do?" for example. If people want to become more grateful they can practice that because gratitude can be learned. They can keep a gratitude journal or something like that. Comparing yourself to others sounds like a way to develop anxiety or depression, not gratitude...

It's a mantra of mine that "Just because kids are starving in Africa doesn't mean I wanna eat my broccoli." And it's nice to know that that's not just something that I think/feel.
That's exactly how I feel too, my parents were together and loving, so whenever I tried to open up about how I felt they almost made it seem like I was a jerk which is why I now relate to Humpty Dumpty
