The BEST Product to Restore Faded Black Trim
Not everyone can afford to trade in their car when it starts to look aged, hence why maintenance is so important. Whether you’re doing your oil changes to prevent costly mechanic bills, or shining up your paint to keep your car looking great, those are all things that will prevent the value of your car to drop.
On my channel, I’ve demonstrated many ways how I maintain my cars by detailing them. I’ve been testing these products featured in this video for some time now, and they all make faded plastics look healthy again. These products are some of the best rated products I found online, and wanted to see which was best as they are all similar, yet quite different as you’ll see.
Feel free to take a look at the tools and products I’ve outlined in this video. By purchasing items below, it helps my channel operate and brings more awesome content your ways. Thank you all for your generous support!! 💙

Thank you for the time you took making this informative video. I get tired of the folks who are in a hurry to put out a video every day and talk about how good a product is after it's been on their car for a whole hour. It was a nice touch showing your car being rained on btw! Keep up the good work
What a great video. Clear, concise, fair and straight forward. I think you have a great point - anything is better than nothing.
Thank you for taking the time to make videos like these, we definitely appreciate the hours you put in to make these videos 👌🏼 also I would love to ceramic coat my cars paint as well as the trims, do you think one box of the c4 would enough to cover it all?
Keep the detailing product reviews coming . Great video
I love the Meguiars product I did a 19 year old 4runner deeply faded trim...it was black but looked almost white so faded. This product brought it back to looking gloss black and new w out any greasy feel.
I loved your video! I was looking for the best product to restore my black plastic trim on my car and your very thorough video helped me decide! Keep making great videos!
Just bought C4 after watching your video. Great info. Thank you
Enjoyed the video, I've been looking for a trim restore for so long, usually they wash off with a little rain.
Bravo! Excellent presentation and straight to the point.
Thanks Milan. This is the kind of video which first drew me to your channel. Brilliant.
Glad you enjoyed it! I've gotta bring these videos back
I appreciate the comparison, now I know what to choose based on needs, thanks!!!
Nicely DONE! Your methods of testing and application were very good! Told a great story. A+ Well done!
Thanks for this I’m now going to get to work on my Semi trims 👍
Excellent video! Straight to the point. Thank you!
I shared this on my Mini Cooper Facebook group! This is awesome info for all of us. Ive actually been looking for something to restore my trim on My MCS
Awesome! Thank you!
Nice review Milan, I have used the C4 myself and it does last 12 months plus, thanks for the effort 👍👍👍
Happy to hear that! 🙌
Thanks for all your hard work
Nice video, clear and fair. Any chance to get an update how the products held up, now that it's been 2 years since application?
thank you. Restoring my 1998 Toyota Camry. 223,600 miles and runs great!
Great video and very informative. Well done man.
Hey bud thanks for sharring!! My civic si will love this on the crowl wiper plastic
Happy to hear that Diego! I did the same to my Accord and it made a big difference
Very good video !! I was looking this kind of test for .... my Mini trim ! 😀
Glad you liked it!
Great video bro. Very specific explanations, exactly how I like them 😄
Glad to hear it!
The channel "Project Farm" also has a good review of this type of product. It is good to watch various channels review these products as you get to see various types of tests being done on them. I'm learning a lot. Thanks!
100% the gtechniq is a miracle product, I have used it on all my cars for years and have had it last 6 years now without a recoat. Also restores completely white 20yo+ plastics back to OEM black (common on Porsche/BMW etc)
I just bought an 03 Avalanche and I am definitely going to give this stuff a try. Thank you!
Amazing 🤩 review!!! Thanks!!
The g tech c4 is really good I ve used it for the last 3 months lasts ages and it’s a bit expensive but worth it and you only need a few drops of it 10/10
Full science. Nice one
I have used the Lithium one on my Fiat 500 Abarth, and it really works. Easy as hell to use, I even used it on the interior plastic trim. Night and day, and the interior will last way longer as it's not exposed to the elements!
That's good to hear. I've been search and searching and most people just talk about exterior. I'm looking for something to help with the dashboard and door panels that I don't have to apply too often. The best review was maybe 3 months. I wish they made stuff as good as the exterior stuff... or I just can't find it. Let me know if you have anymore tips! Thanks!
Ahaha, what a coincidence. I looked up this video specifically for my Abarth! The interior trim as you are well aware is cheap plastic that fades extremely fast, strangely more on the door cards than anywhere else. I'll definitely buy some Lithium seeing as it worked for you. Thanks!
C4 is the best one, I coated my plastics 2 years ago and still looks good. But it is not meant for tyres
he calls the meguires mothers at 3:01 as well!!!! LOLLL trolling dogg.
A nice comparison Milan, but you have used 3 over the counter products and a ceramic coating. You would have been better to compare C4, CarPro DLux, Gyeon Trim and Gyeon Tyre and possibly Solution Finish Black trim restorer. I also feel that a trim restorer as opposed to a trim finish is never going to be good for rubber and a separate tyre restorer would have been a better comparison. It would also have been good to apply odourless Mineral Turpentine (I think you call it spirits) to the tyres to clean them properly. Just a few thoughts as I strive to build my detailing business. Keep up the great work and I am really intrigued to see to final episodes on your mini
Great video. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🏴
GREAT video and info. What about removing/covering wax residue on textured trim?
Stoner trim and shine is awsome !! You can use on tires and trim and dash .
Super review, thanks. I have just purchased a bottle of Simoniz Back to Black which is a similar all-round product, looking forward to trying it out today. I also have a Mini Cooper in that colour, mine is a 2008 R56. The black wheel arches are badly faded with drip marks/weathering on mine. Will be interesting to see if I get simlar results! Thanks
Good luck Steven! Let me know how you find it 👍
Thanks for the great video do you know if this can be used on the plastic dash and door cards in my van?
Outstanding comparison. Thank you.
Excellent video Thank you
Great Video. I will try it thanks
I used C4 on the fender trim of my f56 Mini and nine months after application, it still looks brand new. Despite the fact that the car has been exposed to rain, snow and heat and a monthly wash, the product has held up rather well. I would highly recommend. Side note: After the C4 application, I also applied CarPro Cquartz UK 3.0 ceramic coating.
Isn't that a bit redundant? Both are Ceramic coatings.
Bro what? I tried what you did and now mine is In pieces.
Renew Protect Blak works great on tires and trim.
Thank you for this video!
You bet!
Thank you so much sir🙏🏼
Amazing video. Thank you
Best cars ever for go carting on the road ;-)
the lithium is no joke. i use all of their products. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking to spend their penny's once for a premium product
Great video. Thank you.
Must be nice to have rain. I live here in California along the coast, the only rain we get is the morning fog/ dew.
Enjoyed the video...great
This might be an obvious question but can I use this on my interior trim???? Like my dash and radio area and doors
awesome video thank you
Auto Glym Bumper and Trim Gel is your friend, one coat last for months. Surprised you missed it out. Not for rubber tyres, though I haven't tried it there. 12 years old R56 MINI.
Great video. Thanks.
A very well structured clip !
Thanks Spiv!
Any recommendations for new plastic on the exterior? I'm trying to protect it. I'm in Florida so the sun is brutal. My worry is buying something thats meant to restore when I don't need that at this point.
How many coats did you do?
Great Video!👍
"Super long time"... Nice phrase 🤯
Excelente. Muito obrigado!
I did this to my mini about 3 weeks ago. After watching a few videos on the subject, I decided to go with the Meguiars product. I am happy with the results with a couple of minor cons. The only kind I found locally was in an aerosol can form. The 2 major issues with this is that it causes an uneven application and over spray.
How long did the Maguires last you?
@@racingace9959 still looks good now. I can tell it will need to be redone in the future but I'm satisfied with it considering I wash my car weekly.
Spray the cloth, not the car.
Meguiar's sucks! says on bottle to do it 2-3 times. Going w/Black Majic.
Cerakote is the best one so far for me, I've tried maybe around 8 different products in the past
Exactly
Tried Ceratrim by The Last Coat? Unsure whether to her Ceracote or the Last Coat?
Hi @milanmastracci. With the Trim Serum restorer, could you use it on the part of the wiper blade that holds the blade? On my car it feel like metal but it is black. Thanks!
You want to scrub the black trim with a degreaser such as Dawn dish soap AND a green scothbrite pad. Basically take off the tiny top layer of dead plastic. THEN put on a dressing such as these. You’re welcome
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Exactly, scotch brite.
How long does it last?
Damn can't wait to use the scotchbrite pad, then Cerakote trim restorer. Will report back
I just use the product but I also apply the products regularly because I park my car outside so I treat it often.
C4 costs $35+tx+sh. You get a small bottle 15ml. I used Cerakote to restore my headlights with Ceramic tech and it worked beyond my expectations. I’ve heard great things about C4 but it costs. I used McGuires ultimate black and I like it. For the really BAD FADED trim Rustolium Black Trim+Bumper Paint was my choice. Used a wet/dry 800-1000grit to rough up the surface before applying a light coat, let dry, apply 2nd coat or 3d if required. Don’t apply too much to avoid runs🤤
They make a nice ceramic one at Walmart now right next to the mothers product it’s $6 more but like the lithium it’s worth it
I use Solution Finish Trim Restore on my plastic. It's actually permanent, not a coating. I have a Wrangler, which had grey fenders prior to application, and they are still black after 2+ years. It doesn't ever go in a garage. Auto Fetish Detail turned me on to it. TOP TIP: wear gloves when applying.
I'll have to give it a shot 👍
@@Marioact It's not an "in-store" option like Meguiars, but you can certainly find it on Amazon.
Just used Solution Finish on my JKU ... yes its black ... BUT it never dries and leaves a black oily coating that rubs off on anything that comes in contact. Even when you wash the car it comes off on the sponge and then gets on the paint. CRAP product thats overhyped... no one talks about the cons.
@@pavk6315 SF has been hyped for several years, but there are newer and better trim coatings on the market now.
@@pavk6315 Yes certainly overhyped and messy. I had same issues, does not dry properly, then gets on everything when washing the car. Very expensive for something that does not do what it is promoted to do. And too messy when applying it, gets on everything, would avoid this product like the plague.
If you want to rejuvenate any rubber product on a car, the best product is called AT205C made by ATP. Is is a seal conditioner for internal engine, transmissions, power steering, etc, but works wonders on vehicle trim, door seals, trunk seals. I have been using for decades.
Excellent video. Olive/vegetable oil works best on restoring black plastic. Try it.
Great stuff 👍👍👍
Thank you! ❤️
Best and cheapest is black boot polish on bumpers, or if careful you can use a heat gun both are cheap and last a long time
I’ve always been a fan of ceramic coating I’ve installed it in plastics on my car and it’s been a year and they still look the same
That's great to hear! Ceramics have really shown how capable they are 💪
Have you tried using Meguiar's Synthetic Spray On Wax? It comes in a gallon container and can be used on every part of the car including the interior. With the spray on wax, you don't have to worry about cross contamination on other parts of the car. For example, if you want to restore the rubber trim around your windows, you have to be very careful using these products because you don't want to get any of it on the windows or the paint. With Meguiar's wax, you can just spray it on the entire area, work in the wax and it will protect and restore every area you use it on. I used to have a different product to protect/restore every single part of my car, but the Meguiar's wax replaced every single one of them.
I do have that product and do it enjoy using it when I dry my vehicles, but I wouldn't say it will restore the black trim to the same extent as some of the products used in this video.
@@milanmastracci I used Meguiar's Back to Black previously and the Synthetic wax does a better job, in my opinion. It gets all the black trim shiny and black with out being greasy. And it's so much easier to work the product in. Especially not having to clean up cross contamination.
very helpful idol
Good video!!
Good old fashioned black boot polish in a tin works a treat lasts about 4-6 months
I've found "black again" works best for me.
Video recommendation: Can silicon spray like Permatex Silicon Lubricant be used in rubber in the door jamb, hatch and under the hood to protect them from being brittle? In addition, can it serve as trim restorer? TIA! ☺️
Mother's only good product, apply with foam brush! Nice level coat!
But the ceramic product applied on the car's side that wasn't exposed to the sun so much or was it parked in different directions each time?
Do you think Turanza holds a lot of small stones or rocks on its treads?
Any product or best way to kind of mask, hide or make not so visible a couple of small light scratches on new matte black plastic car trim? The scratches are on the inside side of my right side mirror. The scratches appear as small white lines when in sunlight. Can't see then much when in shade. The car has only 800 miles and I have to look at the scratches every time I look out the side mirror. Painful on a brand new car. If they were somewhere else it wouldn't be as annoying. Not sure how it happened. I wash the car by hand. I was hoping it was just dirt but it's not. Doesn't wipe off. I didn't find any rocks or glass stuck in my sponges or wash mitt but buying new ones anyways. Not worth replacing the mirror. Just want to make it less noticeable. Would any of the typical back to black products help on new black matte trim or just make it worse?
I'm glad I bought the c4
great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
In my case the plastic tail is so faded it is gray to almost white in some areas so what do you recommend?
Which one did you put in your hair??? 🤣🤣🤣 just kidding…..good video!
Hi mate, thanks for the well made show you put out. It's informative and interesting. Great content. I will have to see what products are available in Australia as my plastics look very ordinary indeed. I do like the hydrophobic reaction. Thanks again. All the best from Australia. 🙃
What did you end up going with. I have tried several with limited or no success. Our climate sorts them out. Has anything worked for you???😀
Gtechniq, hands down is the best product on the market for restoring trim it is not meant for tires with silica rubber but it is for all your trim on the vehicle whether it be plastic or rubber as it's not the same rubber that is manufactured on tires. The problem with your top pick is it last like ass after 4 or 5 washes that shit is pretty much gone whereas the c4 Gtechniq will last up to 18 months no matter how many times you wash the vehicle.
Gtechniq products are amazing but NOT cheap. I left a small spot blank on the cowl just below the wiper arm. It's coming up on TWO years and the dull spot still stands out like a sore thumb.
5:15-If 'Lithium Trim Serum' can protect the trim while sitting inside the sun, I will definitely be getting and using it.! 6:48-You are lucky that your car is not 'sticky residue' after weeks of sitting inside the sun.! What brand is that amazing tape.?
How did these do with removing wax or polish residue?
Anyone else Catch the MOTHERS “ Maguires” Back to Black slip... They probably A lil peeved..
Yip
I guess they all lookalike 😉😂
Carl Schem YEAA Every Tinga SAME SAME butt DIFFRAN 🤣🤣
@@brandonsullivan222 😂
Video was terrible. All the way up to where he left the sticky masking tape to bake on the cowling. 🙄
Amazing video
Glad you think so!
2:06 MOTHER"S PR be like .........WTF
😂
Thanks very much for this video! Question: Some time ago, I made the mistake (due to lack of instructions) of not protecting the plastic trim before applying Jescar PowerLock+ on my Crosstrek. The result was a mottled white sheen on the rougher plastic areas, such as the bumper cover. I've not found a product that will remove the PowerLock. Will any of these products help remove or mask this white sheen? Perhaps there is a black stain product that will at least cover it up. Thanks in advance.
Try plain black shoe polish, kind with a foam tip
I like this guy, gets to the point
Thanks Walker! 👊
None of the above-cerakote best hands down for look and longevity.
Thanks
Try Solution Finish Black Trim Restorer.. 👍
well - it would have been nice to leave a section at each wheel un-coated by the products to see how well they each did compared to no coating
