Buster Douglas’ jab was a thing of beauty that night…
Absolutely!!! You noticed that... Nobody had double a jab like he(Douglas did). Wonderful, and efficient. They diserved triple points by the judges
He was tagging Mike with it. Definitely huge difference maker
Not only one of the most memorable moments in all of sports history, but also a very inspirational moment, in and out of sports , for generations to come
Yep. Buster Douglas dedicated his fight to the 'memory of his mother'.
One of the greatest shows of heart in pro fighting. Simply a man who would not be denied.

Mike KO d buster is 8th round Count was 13 seconds???????
@@Man-oq6pfdouglas was in control, he was just making the most out of it with the count. If it was faster he would get up around 9 again. He was almost getting up at 5-6 coz he could but decided to rest more. And it’s a 10 count not 10 seconds precisely
@@Man-oq6pf Its called a 10 count for a reason. its not 10 seconds. Its a 10 count. Mike was given the same 10 count as buster, which consequently was the same amount of time. The only difference is that mike stood up with his mouthpiece hanging out sideways and wobbly.
Mike's heart is also commendable, he was getting hit hard from the start of the fight until the end. Buster was sharp this night
this was a masterpiece by douglas one of best pure boxing performances you will ever see
yeh he outplayed mike style, but if u look closely the countdown of douglas knockdown started later u can see someone else counting from the second he fell referee was like 2 seconds behind the real countdown, and in mike case the referee started counting the second he fell down!!
@@biggiewhite same exact count. The ref is not bound by the time keeper's count and is the authority in the ring. Refs usually give fighters the benefit of the doubt when they are dominating the opponent. Up until the round 8 knock down, Buster was fighting the perfect fight. There are a lot of factors that come in to play when it comes to the 10 count. Buster was alert and showed he was listening to the refs count. Even if he wasn't, he at the very least put on a good act, which goes a long way. It also happened at the end of this round. Something that can't' be ignored. As for Tyson, took bombs from Buster the entire fight. Looked hurt a couple of times. By the 10th round, it's clear Tyson is ready to go. He takes a flush 4 hit combo. He hits the canvas and instead of getting up and at least trying to pretend he wasn't hurt, he clumsily flips onto his knees to look for his mouthpiece and barely puts the damn thing in his mouth. At the count of 8, dazed and confused, he attempts to get up and falls back down and is clearly shook up. The ref is looking him straight in the eye. Tyson is absolutely gone. Tyson tries again and tries to grab and use the ref to help him get up. The red feels it. This is at 9. As the ref waves his warms and stops the fight, there is zero protest from Mike. Buster would have hurt Tyson real bad if that fight went on. Honestly, think about it. Imagine if the ref called this fight in round 8. Buster would have looked straight into the eyes of the ref like he was crazy. It would be another instance where refs make the wrong call, and this fight would have been remembered as one of the biggest robberies of all time. It would have been analyzed over and over again. Furthermore, it would be an asterisk in Tyson's career and in my opinion would look worse than him straight up losing against Douglas.
@@biggiewhite Also, and this might seem like a silly point, but I think it's worth hearing; Buster Douglas' story here is insanely inspirational. The fact that he was an extreme underdog. The fact that his mother died shortly before this fight. The fact that he told his mother, supposedly in her deathbed, that he was going to beat Tyson for her. He didn't show up that night just to fight. He showed up to win. Not only that, but he used this as motivation to win and fought the fight of his life. The amount of people that were probably inspired by this can't be overlooked.
@@Ffeoli1039 Exactly. It was the same count and while Douglas was clearly taking some air, Tyson was completely off. It would be a madness if the ref let him continue. Tyson got knocked down fair and square.

Every punch that guy threw was like it was his last. Damn guy never ran out of energy.
I think what saved Douglas here was his lack of respect for Tyson's power. Rather than being too defensive and cautious with his attacks, he really goes for Tyson and puts it on him. Spectacular 👏🏿
Ultimately
I got your point, but it's more than that... He needed an iron chin to resist those punches... He got so many hits that would have layed down most boxers... And his awareness to wait until 9 to get up showed his toughness and intelligence...
He could take a punch too.

One of Mike Tyson’s weaknesses was that he would allow himself to be stationary too long, clearly you can see Buster taking advantage of that i remember Las Vegas had Buster as a 42-1 underdog in this fight but this is possibly the greatest upset in boxing history.

Even if his mom was alive he still would've won based off of skill alone. The only rounds buster lost was round 6 and the 8th round knockdown. He busted Tyson through the whole fight.
Buster won this fight for his mother. Mike lost cause he mentally didn't prepare and didn't really care either
Mike admitted doing drugs & having sex with women while fighting during that time. The lifestyle caught him with him with a seasoned vet like Buster. The finest hour for James "Buster" Douglas. Excellent physical form of a boxer, the fight is very significant.
Tyson was in magnificent shape to withstand all of those punches and keep upright. I don’t buy the narrative that he was out of shape, he just ran into a fighter with great hands and a determination to win.
At 4:00 of the video the referee starts counting, Buster Douglas was down for 12 seconds. It is timed perfectly with the video! Tyson should’ve won this fight in the 8th round!
Tatarawr it’s timed perfectly with the video. When the ref is on 1 the video is on 4:00-4:01, when he is on 2 the video is on 4:02, when he is on 3 the video is on 4:03, when the ref gets to 8 the video is on 4:10. At some point at the 4 count the referee slowed down the count and has lost 2 seconds from then on. I do understand that it’s the referee’s final count and the count has leeway and other things like distraction come into play. I’m just pointing out the obvious that when the referee stops counting at 9 that 12 actual seconds passed and Tyson should’ve won if the seconds were counted correctly.
That happens, man. It's just a human count. What strikes me is that Buster didn't raise his hands.
A lot of boxers stay down to take the full count to rest. I’m sure Douglas would have got up before the 9 if he had to
Tyson should have got to the neutral corner. It wasn’t 1919, you can’t linger over the downed man.
The referee stop counting at 9 while Buster was still on the canvas but when Mike got to his feet before the count of ten the referee counted him out.

I have been binge-watching some Tyson fights and wanted too see a few he lost (the very few). While the fighting is amazing (Mike was still great and just happened to be bested that day), what stands out to me the most about boxing is that there actually is humanity involved. How the ref held Mike when he just missed the 10 count was like, "it's over. great job and you did your best but it's over". The fighters seem to respect each other and this is a competition not a brawl. I think of the training these professionals endure and all the hard work and discipline needed to be the best. I also think of how they must process life's hardships while all of this is going on in the foreground. I can only imagine that you could lose a fight if you had a lot on your mind or were facing emotional issues during the time period. No taking credit away from Douglas and anyone who can withstand being pummeled from Tyson for that many rounds is definitely a champ.
Douglas was the biggest underdog in boxing history. 42-1... until he knocked Tyson out... its a miracle. If he'd kept that energy he would've become one of the greatest of all time. But for this achievement alone he will be remembered forever.

Buster was the first to take advantage of Tyson's limited height: he hit (hard!) from a distance, and clinched when Mike found a way in. Also, after destroying so many rivals in the first few rounds, Mike's long fight endurance was a question mark; Buster proved it wasn't that good. He never had his comeback in a fight to win.
Let's face it, Mike Tyson was beat by a second rate boxer.
Douglas Busted Tyson. What a fight
Mike was counting on that uppercut. lol
