  • One thing I don't think you've done yet is do an apples-to-apples comparison of your more badass elephant gun rifles up against just a standard 50 BMG. I'd really like to see where the 50 BMG stands when put up against the 500/700 Nitro or the 577 Tyrannosaur. Cool video as always, and it's never lost on me how you have to drop several hundred dollars on ammo alone every time you bring out the big guns. 👍

    • @@jasongrim2027 A huge factor that the videos don't really go into is bullet construction. Of all the magnum rifles in the videos the .416 is consistently the one he uses with **long**, high sectional density brass solids. For all its power the brass solid in the .577 is much lighter for caliber than the .416 - quick math says the same bullet shape as the .416 would come out to a whopping 1112 grains if scaled up to the T-Rex's .585 bore diameter, almost 50% heavier than the 750 grains the gun is usually loaded with. The .416 is actually shooting bullets of the same weight for caliber as .50 BMG, though the latter is loaded with boat tailed spitzers instead of flat nosed hunting bullets so the behavior against different types of barriers will be different. Well that and the .50 is just vastly more powerful.

A Spitzer round like the .30-06 stands about an even chance of defeating that shield, even though the bullet weight is much lower for about the same speed as the .416. A black-tip .30-06 or .308 would zip through it like a pop can.

  • I have to take issue with the 416. I think it had an advantage because of the damage already done by the 700 Nitro and the 577. Also, the Back Panel came off and was never replaced, and from the way the 416 did not penetrate the Predator after, I doubt it had enough energy to go through the panel. I feel like the 306 also had some of that advantage.

But with the integrity of the shield compromised with the damage it had received from the previous rounds, it made it easier to penetrate. • During WW I the British were getting taken apart by German snipers firing behind steel plate because the British guns couldn't penetrate the armor. That was until the British big game hunters started loaning their elephant guns to the war effort. They were typically 500 Nitro Express guns, and they went through the steel like butter. Although, one of the first British soldiers fired the gun while laying prone and shattered his collar bone.

  • If you want a chance for those bullets to go through, don't use hollow points. They are not meant to go through a target, but to do as much damage as possible (and possibly go through), by expanding. You want a bullet to remain in tact to have a chance to go through a target. Similar to the 700 Nitro Express, it is a very large shell, so it "pancakes" out when it hits the target to a large diameter making it difficult to penetrate the target, even with the large firing charge behind it (Although, like you said, it does hit like Thor's Hammer). The .416 Rigby is a smaller (slimmer) shell, so it went through.

  • Man that shield was IMPRESSIVE!! Not gonna lie, I got pretty excited when you pulled out the .577. Been wanting to see more of it and what it can go through. Then you pulled out the 416 Rigby. My two favorite guns on your channel. Awesome video as always man! Btw, thanks for bringing back the POUPON shirts for cyber monday! I missed out on them the first time but not this time!!

  • Not to over think it, but what if you had a g-force sensor? That way you could see how much force would be applied to the arm of a person holding the shield. Just wondering if someone would still be functional after absorbing a shot from the 700 and the T Rex? You got me wondering now Scott. Great video.

    @robertestes1820@robertestes1820 Жыл бұрын
    • The force felt by a person holding the shield would be almost equal to the force of recoil felt by the person shooting. Very close to the same at point-blank, dropping down from there with range. Equal and opposite and such. =)

      @angryzergling7832@angryzergling7832 Жыл бұрын
    • @@angryzergling7832 Actually the force of impact will be much higher than the force of the recoil because of impulse (change in momentum = average force x time). The momentum is theoretically equal (actually the shooter receives more momentum because the bullet slows before reaching the target), but the forces are not equal (Newton's Third Law does not apply because the relevant forces are shooter/bullet and bullet/target, there is no shooter/target interaction). The recoil on the shooter is spread out over the time the bullet (and gases) are accelerated down the length of the barrel, which is several inches long, so the force felt at any given moment is comparatively low. On the other hand, the target impact happens in a tiny fraction of the time, stopping in less than an inch, so the force must be much higher to produce the same impulse. It's the same principle as to why falling on a mattress is a lot less force than falling on concrete from the same height, even though the momentum of the falling object is the same in both cases: the impact duration on the mattress is much longer so the force experienced over that time is lower.

    • 700 Nitro is about 9000 ft-lb at the muzzle so in what looks like maybe 30ft to target you'd be getting hit with several full sized cars in a millisecond.
