I kept hearing “this is not a couch potato breed”. I already knew this as I have whiskey and Freedom but I thought it would be fun to see what happened.

  • The joy of having a high energy dog is that you have a partner to play with! They get you out of the house, out of your head and they get you moving. If you’re sick or extremely tired or the weather is brutal they will stay imside with you…(big plus, they are not wussy about going potty in the rain) yep, they will keep hinting that it would be so much fun to go out and PLAY 😂 My GS/BM cross is the best dog I ever had and she’s a rescue who was given up at one because she was too high energy. She was in rescue for 6 mos and knew nothing, didn’t know how to play ball, no recall, you couldn’t catch her and she was not housebroken. In FIVE months she knows everything in Obedience 2 very well, has a great recall and trains in other things I see on KZhead in French Ring so she trains in French and English and is hands down the most fun dog I ever had and if she had her way there would be no stop button. She’s a 2 yrs old energizer bunny who knows we don’t play in the house (though she asks with a ball in her mouth lol) and hangs out in her crate in my bedroom on the days I’m overtired…cause I’m 68 and that’s a thing.

  • I have three mals and each one is so different in their day to day attitudes. One was willing to wait until its time to go out, the second will be lazy then switch on immediately, the third is a ticking time bomb, moan, whinge and more moaning. It just shows not all mals are the same some are more hyper than others.

  • You are doing an excellent job with them. Your messages could help people considering adopting or buying a Malinois and give them a clear idea of the work required.

  • Good video! With enough play time we get plenty of down time with our 3 mals but they are not couch potatoes. Play or work for 30-45 minutes they will nap about 1.5 to 2 hours, then wake up and start again. If it's raining or we are sick they just mope and sleep knowing they can't play like normal, mals are very intelligent and adaptable in that sense, but after a few days of this they get anxious and pent up. But overall, if you want to rest, you gotta put in the work with mals.

    • This is exactly like my Athena, a Belgian Malinois x German Shepard, who from what I’m seeing acts identical to a full Mal. We have to really work her then we get a nice long nap and it starts again. When she naps she so cuddly and right next to me.

    • Same with our Mal. He plays hard, then naps hard for a few hours LOL. Yes the pent up days are the worse for him, he can get through 1 pent up day, but the next day he's extra wild, and you will get up and play with him one way or another 🤣

  • It doesn't rain much in AZ but when it does we still get out for a walk and in the yard for fetch. She can be a couch potato if need be, we taught her "settle", and we keep high value, long last snacks for down days, ut they don't happen often.

  • My malinois have adjusted to my lifestyle. they can be couch potatoes but I always let them roam everywhere around the house and patios. my female malinois Lucy I always have the door of my terrace open for her ,but the moment they see me grab the car keys or my bike helmet the jump and want to go with me.

  • My dog loved this video😂. Free is a Dutch, no? I live on a lake and have an Old Town Pack canoe set up for my guy but my nosy, busybody, gossip neighbors complain about leash covenants whenever I take him out. They also warn delivery drivers that I have a loose, aggressive animal on the prowl (not true) and complain about his barking (he’s very quiet). *sigh*😢
