Flew with them on Saturday from Qld to Vic and they’re actually a solid airline for such a budget. Hopefully they can sort it out cause they have a good business model offering flights to places that aren’t easy to fly from
imo I feel like Bonza should be apart of either the Air Asia Group or Lion Group, which both are very large low cost groups
I wonder if this is a similar case to lynx in Canada where the leasor found better deals and rather then give them the chance pulled them

Yes... nothing to do with the over 100 million dollar debt they created in one year. Definitely the lessor just deciding to violate legal obligations and gave the jets to other airlines. BTW those jets are still sitting in TUS and not with other carriers.

Investors lost patience, a near-impossible market to break into here with a perfect storm of headwinds of pilot shortages, expensive capital city handling charges, cost of living, lack of Sydney slots, fuel prices etc. I hoped 777 Partners would have the expertise and deep pockets to play the long game - I guess not. I feel awful for the frontline staff and the poor folks who can’t get a suitable free rescue flight from the incumbents.
There’s a reason many of those regional markets have limited flight options - population. These markets are often served by smaller aircraft, often with subsidies from state and federal governments, and destinations are generally limited to nearby towns and/or the state/territory capital. Bonza wasn’t going to fare well as cost of living pressures bite, causing many would-be leisure travellers to reconsider their plans. Accommodation, activities and dining out can also be expensive in Australia, and no budget airline can offset these expenditures for domestic tourism within Australia. Would love to see some videos about the unique challenges facing the domestic aviation sector in Australia.

The company that they leased the planes from got sold and the new owners changed the details (at least this was what was said on radio this morning). I don't know what the details are but it has forced them in to voluntary administration. Maybe they should get someone to buy the 717s from Qantaslink and then lease them. the fuel cost may be hoigher but i would expect the lease cost to be much lower.

How awful to hear. While visiting Australia, I took a Bonza flight and thoroughly enjoyed it. This is bad news. ULCC’s have a hard time of it in Australia. I sure liked the Bonza livery. The color purple is unusual in an airlines livery.
It seems getting a third airline in Australia is all but impossible. I am sure Bonza gave it their all, just as I am equally sure the deck got stacked against them.. We have seen Compass come and go, amist alsort of unexplained problems just pop out of nowhere. Virgin Blue came and Ansett left. Tiger came, and they too failed. I don't think our playing field is very level, but maybe it's just me.
No announcement on the website, just all the departure dates are greyed out, and the FAQ links have been removed. Odd!
They should've started with smaller jets like Airnorth which would've suited their regional country runs far better with fewer people to fill a large 737.
I am a travel agent and it was clear they were never going to last with the low fares they were charging in comparison to operating costs. A $100 flight between Melbourne and Alice Springs is just bleeding money. They also did not have a cost centre and flight cancellations would snowball because they couldn't summon another aircraft.

Well Voluntary Administration now, I'm not sure Bonza will recover. So many budget Australian airlines have failed, and well I feel like Bonza will be another added to the list.
Hope they sort through this and find a lifeline.

Bonza set out with noble intentions to serve regional routes in Australia, particularly from its Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Melbourne hubs, it is evident that the decision to pursue these previously unserved routes ultimately contributed to its downfall. The reality is that these routes, though undoubtedly important for regional connectivity, posed significant financial challenges. They were uncharted territory for a reason - they were unprofitable. Despite the enthusiasm and dedication of the Bonza team, the economics simply did not add up.
Bonza might have been a ":"low-cost"" airline to prospective customers - ie low, affordable fares - but it is not a low cost to operate a fleet of 737's anywhere. I suspect the business model for the airline was very suspect from the start - probably relied on average load factors of 80%+ - good luck with that!! Unfortunately, Bonza's demise (and it will be a demise) was predictable!!
It's a similar story to Flybe 2, late aircraft deliveries, bad management, not enough financing to cover losses for up to 3 years (the usual time it takes for an airline to make money)
@@devon896 Flybe 2 was poor route chocies such as Heathrow to Amsterdam up 737's & A3220 family. used by BA & KLM . Also the most profiable routes of Flybe 1 had been taken over by the likes of Loganair. The UK domestic routes are not profitable . I will never forget when a colleague told how cheaper they were than getting a train from Birmingham to Edinburgh to meet his team

Neither Qantas or Jetstar have any need for the 737 max. Virgin have there own Max's on order and wouldn't entertain these leased aircraft.
These are high dollar in demand aircraft leased to Bonza on what amounts to preditory loans by their fianancer. Same financer who will give these airplanes to Flair in Canada under the same preditory agreement terms. There is a whole onion to unlayer with 777 partners. This video or discussion isnt even scratching the surface as to what is really going on.

It's a No Brainer, that incoming new airline catering for those regional routes would NOT last long, due to lack of demand. Bonza was hoping that by creating those routes, demand would increase, Sadly, that was NOT the case. False Hope, it was.
not even 2 years old and it's already going downhill.
They had a fairly good product initially but the Aussie airspace is a graveyard of start-up airlines that have failed to breach the Qantas Virgin duopoly stronghold on the market. I always felt the choice of the B737MAX was a bad idea and they could have got better value from the Embraer E190-2 or similar on the the thin routes they flew.
They didn't need the e2. The max was their choice. Once it gains back trust when Boeing can build them.correctly then things should be back in full swing
I agree, the E-190/195 E2, or Airbus A220 would have been better.
@@nickolliver3021 The MAX was a bad choice, late deliveries, loss of consumer trust, expensive to maintain. The E2's could have been delivered much quicker and had only 146 which would have led to higher profitability.
@@devon896 then the a320neo was a bad choice, late deliveries too loss of consumer trust in getting planes on time, however getting e2s would not be tbe alternative as it doesn't compete well with a320neo

What specifically do you mean by reliability? Are you referring to the lessor or the aircraft? Bonza has a good business model for Australia, and do hope they succeed.

Bonza seems to be in a bad state. Recent voluntary administration AND repossessed planes (not good 😂). Also Qantas and Jetstar are offering free flights for stranded bonza passengers too.

Flairjets were due to be impounded by the lessor, 777 partners (who own Bonza and Flair) decided to ship them to Australia to avoid losing two aircraft.
They must have owed the lessor money they would not have reposessed them for any other reason
Same company that owns Flair. Wondering if they're next. Flair has 600 FEWER flights this spring vs. last spring. Not what most would consider a "model for growth"
Bonza's problems cannot be looked at in isolation from those of its parent company, 777 Partners, which is American. Nor can it be looked at in isolation of those at Canadian operator Flair, which is part owned by 777 Partners. 777 Partners owns the 737Max aircraft used by both airlines. It claims to have bought 214 of these aircraft. Faors aircraft have been seised by creditors and Canadaian courts have approved the government seizure of aircraft over unpaid import taxes. 777 Partners is presently subject to multiple lawsuits with it variously described as a "house of a cards" and " a sprawling fraudulent enterprise". None of this is related to Boeing or 737Max aircraft. 777 Partners has many business interests,

They were a mess to begin with. Most of the funding coming from the US where that company had their fingers in too many pies.

Cost is the biggest problem for any airlines, that want to survive in the industries. Lack of demand also can be a problem.

And the 737 MAX looks so wrong, a 1960 nose with those ugly wing tip things, the wings on the a350 are just stunning. But I do hope the Airline can sort itself out as it seems to have a loyal customer base
