"I don't have memories in English" is an interesting insight
IT is true. I have being using English everyday for the last 12 years of my life and I still think and dream in Spanish.
Happens a lot when English (or for anyone else, when the language being used in the video/show/film) isn't their primary language (hence the "mother tongue" mention by Javier). I oftentimes think in Spanish, even if I don't realize the words coming out are in English. It also tends to explain why I might slow down when speaking in English (especially to a natural English speaker), as I'm translating my Spanish thoughts as I speak. Unless my answer is rehearsed beforehand, it would make me seem like I speak in a slower than normal tempo. 😅
I thought the same thing
I also feel like a different person when i speak in english instead of my mother tongue.
counting. I know people who immigrated to Canada and learned English AGES ago and they still count in their native language. it's instinctual lol
What he said about language and speaking your mother tongue is so insightful.
Yessss, I feel the same way ( I’m a native portuguese speaker), and I could never have put in a better way then the way he did
It's 100% true. Speaking in other language is like pretending. It's more like acting.
@@stevemuzak8526 I don't feel that at all. But maybe it's the age thing, I think in English since I was 18, I dream in English and I cannot express myself in my first language
it is true
@@stevemuzak8526 It’s more of a “language game”, where you don’t base what you say out of a feeling that you have but rather what serves most useful for the particular circumstance.
No country for Old men was one of the most intense movies ever, It's a masterpiece
True, I remember him by his character in that movie, unforgettable role.
I thought pirates of Caribbean was better
God help me @@ogjohnnydeath
And Skyfall. He stole the show.
I haven’t seen it so now I really have to watch it!
I'm glad Javier takes the time to explain things instead of giving one word answers.
even when he already answered! such a lovely guy :)
Ese proceder es un hombre ; criterioso y actor!
I met him in Brisbane when he was filming for pirates of the Caribbean. I was working at a burger chain called Grilld and he sat outside and had his friend order. I asked if he would let me have a picture with him if he had some time. He was very friendly and made some jokes (no no that is my brother not me), I delivered his food later on and let him be not wanting to bother him. After finishing he came and waved his hand at me and asked if I would still like the photo before he left. Got a great pic and a great memory as a young hospo worker. Top guy.
Ah, that's awesome!
Ty for this story, I'm not surprised but it's very nice to hear!!!
Awesome! GrillD is great too Baa Baa burger ftw.
As written! So humble! So wise!
Did he put a coin on your counter and said „Call it.“ ?
He seems like such a genuinely nice guy, but if he called me Friendo, I'd immediately buy a plane ticket to the other side of the planet.
Scratch that...if he told me to hold still, even if he said "please", I would take 1 hot ticket to Australia 💀...
I had the chance to meet him when he went to overdub some stuff at a friend's studio when I was visting. He is absolutley the nicest guy. Very funny, respectful and warm. It was a treat.
"What time do you close?" 💀
@@GrimmToast Now's not a time...
Such good writing. I’m not sure if that “friendo” is in the book.
You can tell how humble he is by just looking how he keeps holding those paper stripes, not throwing them around with those overly dramatic gestures that all other actors do. And he says "thank you" almost every time he takes the list of questions
Someone noticed it finally. Throwing stripes and papers all over the place is low-key rude to staff unless they clean it up behind the camera.
He is humble.. as is written!
@@sousou5926they probably tell them to throw it to be quirky and funny, but Javier just doesn’t have it so for sure he is humble
That’s latin politeness!
@@Er_Guille spaniards are not latin, god…
1:11 as a non native english.. that's literally the most perfect thing to say about how we feel when expressing in english
I am also a non-native English speaker, but I have no idea what he was talking about here.
Exactly my thought - incredible how he just effortlessly explained the feeling
Go back to your country pendajo
I never swear in my native language, but in English, ohh boy
He has so much charisma! He seems incredibly likable.
You should see him in dune part 2 then
I saw him in part 4. Incredible. Come back once you've seen it too in a couple of years. 😃
@@MangelBanselmo Prescience joke?
@@MangelBanselmo it is written

Stilgar is so different than what Anton Chigurh is... Like miles difference you can't even noticed it's Javier Bardem. He is an incredible actor
There's a scene that has both Bardem and Josh Brolin, and it took me a while to realize it was a _No Country for Old Men_ reunion.
Yeah, I really forgot it was him while watching Dune. Specially with Part 2. It’s like it was just so natural for him, And suddenly after the movie it came to my mind again that he was also “The Boss” as well as the psycho on “No country for old men”, not to speak of “Mar Adentro”. He is so good you completely forget it’s the same person in all of those roles.
Very likable guy and an awesome actor!
And apparently he is good at reading upside down. Did you notice that he didn't hold the cards to the side to read them. He was looking at it upside down to himself and reading it no problem.
I love that he learned English by listening to AC/DC 😂
🥁🎶The video game says 'play me' Face it on a level but it takes you every time on a one on one Feeling running down your spine Nothing gonna save your one last dime 'cause it own you Through and through 🎸🎶
A lot of spanish speakers learned english because of music. In my generation Nirvana, Offspring, Limp Bizkit were the catalyzer for a lot of people wanting to learn english😊
@@cjwright79 who made who! That's an awesome deep cut
There's a clip of Javier at a press conference where a reporter asks what it's like to be the only man in the world who enjoys working with his wife. Javier graciously smiles, looks at the reporter, and replies: "The question is in tremendously poor taste." That same grace and gratitude, his respect and deference to the directors and actors he works with, shines through in this interview. Props to a real one.
Why was that offensive? I don't get it
@@lynnd.5135It's kind of insulting to married actors who do love working with their wives (an example, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt), and also insulting to wives who think their husbands like working with them.
@@FaceJP24 yeah I still don't think it's such a big deal
@@lynnd.5135 You don’t get it ‘cause you have poor taste
@@mingfei1622 no, it's because you are overly sensitive
he can turn the most mundane question into an engaging narrative this man is a treasure.
Not really he just has more life experience and been around more diverse types, races and groups of people. So when you really think about it, what are your life experiences?
@@plm8830 not that crazy yet only 19 I see what you’re trying to say but I was also being hyperbolic lol
Only the Lisan Al Gaib could do that, as it was written!
Often times the sweetest people will play the best villains, and I absolutely think that Javier Bardem is one of these people! He is so sweet, soft spoken and nice. Absolutely love him in everything he plays and love hear him chat about his history/life!
Agreed. He’s so intense in all his films… but in this interview he’s moving his head and hands a lot, looking down (as opposed to grilling the camera a la Anton Chigurh)… he seems much more relaxed which is kind of jarring to see.
He and Heath Ledger are both great examples of this.
This man lives rent free in my mind with his 15 minute walkable city. This man has never felt the pain of adding one more lane to the highway. Brillant thank you Javier Bardem
huh?
His rugby/movie analogy is kind of genius I think
Agreed !
Yeah, great parellism.
"You have to play your note, you cannot play any symphony"
Yes , if only every actor was as humble as he is
Javier is such a beautiful and charismatic person, and with his role in No Country For Old Men, I was absolutely blown away to discover he was Spanish. Gracias España, por Javier Bardem 🇪🇸
I guess the rest of the world only knows the films where he speaks English, but if you saw “Mar adentro “or “Antes que anochezca “ you would realize the talent he has.
Definetely
Mar adentro in fact is his best movie for me.
not to get confused with Mas adentro@@Mordz1902
"Mar Adentro" is incredible. A heartbreaking movie with a powerful message and a great script. And Bardem is amazing in it.
Mar Adentro is amazing and one of my favourite movies ever!
his monologue as Raoul Silva is hands down the best Bond villain introduction.
Every frame he was on screen filled me with pure, complete dread. I don't think I took my eyes off the screen for that whole monologue. My favorite movie Bond villain so far.
His performance in dune part 2 made his character my favorite. So funny in such an authentic way
i agree, best performance and most likeable character for me too
Mahdi is too humble to say he is the Mahdi 🙏 😂
As it written
When Stilgar warning Paul of the desert spirits was very funny. Like, “the spirit will speak to you - like shugashahishagaj -don’t listen, it will kill you.but anyway, it is real good luck”
A fantastic bond villain
Oh yes. That abandoned island scene was masterpiece.
Best Bond villain in my opinion
Best Daniel Craig's Bond villain.
Ciertamente. El mejor villano de la franquicia Bond, en mi opinión.
Skyfall is still the best Daniel Craig's Bond film.
He’s still one of the best and craziest villains in a Bond film. I loved what he said about making Bond uncomfortable cuz that was great. You can really see how he makes everyone around him feel
Amazing as Stilgar! Everyone was rooting for him clapping for him during his scenes 👌
He was the best part!

LISAN AL-GAIB 🙏
Very true. His role could come across as annoying, stupid fundamentalist, but we rooted for him, felt for him, loved him.
“Caviar Bardem”! 🤣
1:45 he just nailed the American accent when pronouncing his name. If you hear it again. You’ll be surprised to realize that he can do that.
Noone should be surprised by the actor doing different accents.
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 I just thought it was a surprise that he can speak with that accent because actors such as Gal Gadot and Jason Statham have never done an American accent.
All of us Latinos/Spanish can do that. Living in America especially, You’re surrounded by people butchering your language. 😂
I'm not sure about Gadot. But Statham played an american in the film The One with Jet Li. His accent is terrible though. Haha. It really is.

Everytime I read the Dune books now I can only picture Javier as Stilgar, he captures the character PERFECTLY, I hope he gets nominated and possibly even wins an oscar for it
I saw dune 2 the other day. He was amazing, the best actor. I think he was one of few people who really understood his character
I love that explanation of how you feel when you speak another language than your own mother tongue. Very true
Just when I thought I couldn’t love this guy more ….. he’s an AC/DC man ❤
He is like a slab of rock, his acting has a rawness that is rare these days. He was perfectly cast as the wild free hoodlum Stilgar.
Maravilloso actor Javier!! Un orgullo para España

The way he improved his character for Dune 2 is amazing. I just loved him!!!!
the bit about crying instead of laughing showing his dramatic flare was hilarious
guy is so genuine, love him
I have worked with him in “The good boss” and is a great guy and very generous human being. 🎬❤️
Javier did an amazing job in Dune Part two!
I didn't know he was married to Penelope Cruz. Amazing, what a hero.
I remember No Country For Old Men was the first serious action drama i remember being impacted by, the way it was filmed, it really made me appreciate the acting but the story is also wild. Javier is a true artist.
there should be one in country for old men 2
Love whenever he comes on screen, even for an interview
I remember seeing him in Vicky Cristina Barcelona when I was a teenager and I was absolutely enchanted, he was my first major crush 🤌🏻 love his energy
His performance in no country for old men is chilling and amazing
I freaking love it that he learned english listening to AC/DC. Man has a rock and roll soul.

One of the greatest actor ever! Bravo Javier
This guy is such a joy to watch and listen to! :-)
When I look at Javier Bardem he was magnificent playing the villain in 007 Skyfall. But looking closely at him he is excellent playing the father of or as the ultimate main antagonist in a live-action alternate Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Black Ops, and Ghosts combined version.
Great talent. His performance just elevates every movie he's in.
I just absolutely love Javier’s character in dune part 2. Amazing 😂
Seems like a very genuine, humble guy and full of wisdom. Gained more respect for him
One who does a movie like "Biutiful" and answers that he almost grasps what it is to be an actor is giving the humble answer.
Great interview! Can’t wait for dune part 2. Got my tickets for tomorrow!
I always imagined Stilgar pretty much how he was portrayed in the movie and Javier's acting was spot on, best acting in both movies.
Remember when he and his wife were supposedly black listed by the Hollywood big wigs for speaking out against the Israeli government's questionable conduct in the region. If that's true, someone owes someone a big apology. So glad to see he's still going strong with great roles in big movies. Also I heard Penelope was fantastic in Ferrari!
Loved Dune Part Two and loved Mr. Bardem’s performance. Going to watch it again soon
I love this guy. A real man!!
What an absolute class act! Real Gentleman!
Thanks Javier for immortalizing Stilgar in our hearts - as written! :D
9:54, that's an amazing analogy about putting the team and the objective before yourself.
Such a cool guy.
Anton is a masterpiece psychopath What an excellent acting.
One of the best actor of his generation and great personality 🥳
One of my favourite actors of all time.
0:46 PERFECTLY put. As a nativa spanish speaker too, I understand fully the feeling of disconnect with English as we have no memories or emotions with it, but saying the same thing in spanish triggers the amygdala bad! Emotions go crazy. It makes me scared and super shy! But English its like ah wtf😂
Es uno de los mejores, no solo actores sino personas. Además súper comprometido con la gente con menos recursos y las causas solidarias. Muy, muy orgullosos de él. Grande Javi.
De toda la familia Bardem.
Uy sí. La hermana Teresa de Calcuta es.
