    • The amount of $$$$$$s put into pro-sports is astronomical, way more than we can imagine. Over here in the UK the amount of football clubs sponsored by gambling organizations is loads & it constantly grows! Remember its sport that puts the bling into gambling!!

    • dumbest thing ever, they shouldn't be MOVING, they shouldn't be CHANGING during play. they should be static and only cycle at a timeout/TV timeout, or whistles...but even that is pushing it for me. so annoying.

    • The amount of $$$$s gambling organizations put into pro-sports is huge & growing every year! As is the incidences of problem gambling & even suicides from the myriad ways to gamble even from your mobile with few or zero checks!! Here in the UK we're a few yrs further down the mobile gambling road than you in Nth America & its a snowballing nightmare believe me & worse than many other addictions due to its ease to be hidden.

Even drugs and alcohol at least take some time to destroy someone's life if they have a problem. A gambler could lose everything and put himself in debt the same day he installs the app, before they even realise they have a problem.

    • To some1 from the UK, having a home commentator is 1 thing but how you North Americans tolerate such 1 sided biased almost child-like comms is difficult to fathom! With some you feel guilty about admitting that the opponent has played well which is daft cos i want to enjoy the game & maybe my team loses which is a bummer but the game was lit up & so enjoyable.

Just make matter-of-fact statements, especially as color analyst: "I'd like to see our defense force their offense to the outside and not concede the slot." Perfectly clear and no need to characterize anything as bad or falsely good

    • It's so weird as a British person to hear how one sided homer commentary can be, like in our sports our commentators might show a little bias and happiness when the Brits do well but they're generally even handed and willing to call out bad play when they see it or respect good play from the opposition@@habinations - I guess the closest we get to homers are the local radio broadcasts but even they just focus a bit more on the home team (the colour comms can sometimes get carried away though!).

  • Funny how they really do have about 50 different angles of injuries or for a shot that misses the net, but when it's something important like an offside, a questionable goal or a questionable hit, we only get the 2 angles, one where there's 3 dudes blocking your view and the other one that's been shot form the far side of the parking lot.

  • From the most recent Avalanche-Blackhawks game on ESPN for some reason they kept putting a huge banner over Bedards head that said Bedard on it with an arrow pointing at Bedard, and it was so big it was blocking other players, and the puck and they used it nearly every time he had a shift for the entire shift for about the first half of the game

  • Anything to do with ads. The ad on each side of the trapezoid, the mapped ads on the ice, the animated digital ads on the boards. If they're going to insist on using digital ads on the boards, they should at least be static. Earlier this week during the Flyers game, half the power went out but the game continued. All they had working was some of the lights on the ice and that was it. Honestly, it was so refreshing not hearing anything but the players shouting to each other and the puck hitting the sticks.

    • agreed, it's so refreshing when announcers give the away team their dues instead of downplaying an opponent. it's ok to have a little bias, but I love hearing announcers being honest about what's happening on the ice.

    • Here in Seattle, radio play-by-play man Everett Fitzhugh has fun with that--he'll occasionally poke fun at himself and his commentary partners because he "knows who signs his checks" (a.k.a. ownership & local broadcast affiliates), and will go out of his way to mention that he's a "hockey fan first" when he compliments a truly exceptional play by the Kraken's opponent every once in a while.

  • Funny, when I first started watching Hockey, every arena had an organ and player. There were no songs, no sing along, just organ music and the thing that made it special was the individual stylings of each organ player. They should bring it back.

  • 1. Interviews during gameplay - Bally Sports shrinks the action on the ice so that they can show two or more people talking, 2. Having the stats and things on the bottom of the screen so that the play along the boards is hidden but the top of the screen shows the crowd.

A similar one that was going on during the NFL playoffs on TSN was all during the playoffs they'd put up this big banner ad at the bottom of the screen during replays that would block important parts of the replay. The ad was for the superbowl. So they were literally blocking important parts of the screen in playoff games to tell me when the superbowl was, as if anyone watching the conference finals needs to be told when the superbowl is.

  • 100% agree about gambling ads. As a rangers fan I'd like to listen to Sam and Joe during the game and not them cutting to fanduel for 15 seconds 20x a game. Also MSG network doesn't always have SOG shown. It's randomly pops up during the game. Just wish it was constantly shown again

    • The highlight package on KZhead are very weird. Sometimes every single shot no matter how routine is shown for the first 2 periods. And the opening faceoffs of every period. And 5 replays of every goal. But then suddenly in the third period it goes from 17 minutes left to one minute remaining!!!

  • Spot on about the music in arenas. Every game in DC it’s “My Own Worst Enemy”, “All the Small Things” and “Mr. Brightside” and the crowd sing it like robots. I’ve been to games recently in Glendale, Vegas, Raleigh and Tampa, and it’s exactly the same. I miss the organ in Capital One Arena, the games just don’t feel the same anymore, I know a lot has to do with the decline in play, but the music has certainly been a factor too.

Lack of game subscription options: there is regular paid or premium paid by the month but how to I watch just one in market or out of market game? 3.   • 1) As others have mentioned, the over saturation of gambling ads and gambling stats during the game. 2) Digital ads on boards for a bunch of reasons but specifically when the ads are tailored to my demographic and area. When I watch an away game in Chicago, I want to see ads from Chicago. I want to see Tony's Pizza and whatever grocery store ads they have in Chicago. It was always a small opportunity to learn what makes another city tick and they've taken that away. 3) When a fight starts and the play stops and the camera/broadcasting takes half a century to switch over to the fight.

  • Ding! Ding! Ding! THG nailed it - all 10 interfere with the broadcast itself. Like THG I mute the sound, and often for long stretches. It's easier to see the ebb and flow of game with constant verbal distractions. You also learn to really appreciate those places that really know how to cover a game visually

  • Agree with you about the gambling. I grew up hanging out with my grandpa listening to the radio broadcast in his woodshop. Though, I like watching the game, I prefer listening to my local radio station (The Fan 960), so I can follow the game and do other things. This year, we’re lucky to have Meaghan Mikkelson doing colour along side Derek Wills on the play-by-play. Mik knows her stuff.

NHL Now used to let you pick between home or away (unless national broadcast obviously) I’d understand if they want you to watch the Sportsnet broadcast if they have one, but being a fan of an out of market team I’d rather hear the homer-ism of the team I cheer for than the one I don’t

    • Disagree, it's hockey tradition! And it's fun as all heck! I've only done it once and it was so invigorating. Where else in sport (or anywhere in public for that matter) can one physically accost property belonging to someone else, where that some else has cameras and security present looking directly at you, and it's all good? As i've gotten older, i've realized it's better for all (me included) to just let people have their fun if they aren't truly hurting someone else. To each their own. PS, go to a minor league hockey game sometime, sit along the glass in the corner, and give it a few slaps during a scrum. If a smile doesn't come across your own face then you're not alive.

  • Honda Center used to not be cold before the 2017/2018 season, but following the 2017 playoffs Edmonton complained to the NHL that they lost the 2nd round series against Anaheim because the ice quality was poor. The following season the NHL took over the temperature controls and made Anaheim lower the temperature in the building to improve the ice quality. At least that is what I was told by numerous people who work at Honda Center.

  • The extra replays on injuries a lot of the time is just about filling the time created by the time needed by the time needed for the injury. Sometimes an injury will make the show go into the commercial break early (one of the rules). But it takes time to decide that and organize it. There's no real excuse during intermissions other than someone wants to talk about it.

  • Sportsnet broadcasts are really bad this year. TSN seems to do a much better job in my opinion. The gambling talk is relentless. Plus, all of the people talking it up and telling you what they bet lose 95% of the time. This proves that it is not worth your time betting, unless you have a bit of spare cash you don't mind spending. And any arena that still plays Cotton Eyed Joe needs to be severely fined. Cheers
