  • There is nothing more exhausting than struggling to lose weight and exercise as much as you can while starving. It affects you mentally, physically and emotionally. I did it for years, yes years while eating “healthy” foods. It was debilitating from the inside out and I was heavier than I’d ever been plus I was starving and had health issues. WFPB eating was life changing but finding your channel was life saving. Your recipes are easy, delicious and staples in my home. Thank you!

  • I do the same, I used to cut out oils all together but now use it very sparingly. Just a 1/4 or 1/8 teaspoon combined with some vinegar and salt is great to toss veggies/potatoes in. And of course a few drops of sesame oil can truly transform a dish. I am not as militant as I used to be,and am okay now with using it sparingly. Same with avocados, I cut it out all together for a while and now I just spread out one avocado and use it over the course of 5 days or so as a topping :)

After watching one of Kiki's videos on avos and nuts I decided to cut them out. Lo and behold 7lbs fell off in just a couple of months without even really trying. Boom! Keep the house a Healthy Foods Only zone. This works for me forcing me to grab fruit or blueberry oatmeal if i want sweets. Just tell them all...to GET healthier & stay that way, this MUST become the new normal. Cos lets face it..if it's in my house, it's in my mouth.

    • Elana A. Some notes taken from many sources, but mostly from the High Carb Hannah book LEAN and CLEAN on coffee. Haven’t read Kiki’s weight loss book, but want to get it. COFFEE: Caffeine fries your adrenals. It stimulates body to produce cortisol. Elevates heart rate and blood pressure. It makes us produce less dopamine and serotonin - feel good hormones. It messes up your hormones in a big way. It’s a DRUG and is addictive as hell. It increases catecholamines which increases stress hormones. These hormones release cortisol which mean weight GAIN, aging, and INCREASES INSULIN….every cup of coffee screws up our blood sugar levels. Coffee causes inflammation in the body. Causes slow recovery in body, difficulty losing weight, skin issues, and can lead to fibromyalgia and MS. Caffeine causes insulin sensitivity. Your blood sugar levels will be all over the place making you hungry (or feeling like you are starving), when you are actually NOT. Coffee leaks diterpenes in the body which are linked to higher triglycerides, LDL, and VLDL levels. Bad news if you want to be healthy. People become dependant on the coffee pick-me-ups stimulants for energy instead of going for whole nutritious foods. Coffee will mess up your mood and hormones. For health - avoid it. Me: Am working at weening myself off of it …. again!!

      @beeARTcanada@beeARTcanada2 жыл бұрын
    • @@beeARTcanada I'm gearing up for my weaning of coffee. UGH! When i do, though, I am so much more successful at healthy living & eating. Had tea today. Good luck to you!

    • @@NYCButterfly24 Thank you. I am going to be 65 shortly. Spent 25 years trying to lose 25 pounds. I did EVERYTHING, every diet, exercised 1 1/2 hours a day; but drank 4 to 5 cups a day all those years. Early this year decided to get off of coffee. Once off weight started to come off effortlessly 2 pounds a week. Lost 18 pounds!!! Got cocky, started coffee again this summer; and have NOT been able to lose the last 7 pounds no matter what I do. Not one ounce has budged. Coffee really messes up ones insulin. When insulin is up, its impossible to lose weight. Good luck to you as well.

  • Hey Kiki! I became plant based on August 1st of 2021, I did a 75 day challenge in hopes of proving to myself I could do hard things & also in hopes of helping a “mysterious” stomach issue no drs could find out was & improving my mental health. You & Hannah were my KZhead/IG go to “coaches!!” At the end of the 75 days I lost 20 pounds & loved it so much I decided to keep going. I’m 5 months in now & still love this way of eating & how I feel but I’ve only lost 2 pounds since the end of my journey. I’m eating the 50/50 plate the majority of every meal. I feel like I’m stuck & at a stand still but I know I still have some weight to loose (like 15-20 pounds) How can I get over this hump? I feel like I’m doing everything right but the numbers & my sizes aren’t moving.

    @kaitlyn3001@kaitlyn30012 жыл бұрын
    • Hannah says calories matter. A good start would be 1500 calories a day I like to eat 5 times a day. So I divide 1500 by 5. Which is 300 calories. That's how many calories I eat at each meal and snack. I don't eat any fat.once you're lean then maybe add some fat back in.

      @christieanderson1330@christieanderson13309 ай бұрын
  • I am plant based and agree with you in principle. A little discussed factor in all of this though, is that fat delays gastric emptying, so foods with some fat in them hold a person over to the next meal for longer. I deal with that by eating again when I get hungry. But I think it's important for people starting out to understand that "full now" on low density foods may feel "empty soon" when they begin to leave out the oils. YMMV.

  • A new study came out stating that those that lowed fat intake lost 65% more fat from their body than people that cut carbs. Makes sense. If you are overweight, you likely have excess fat and I would argue to say that you could get away with lowering it a bit for a while. Doesn't mean you should completely cut it out, but there is a difference between getting fat from hemp hearts or cashews and olive oils. There is way more nutrition coming from having 120 calories of nuts and seeds than just plain oil.

  • Thanks for all your info. My favorite recipes are curries and wonder what a tasty substitute for coconut milk would be? 🙏🏻

    • @@katherinel8970 i blend a can of white beans with about a cup of soy milk. works fine for the creamy texture but i want to see if theres coconut drops i could add with it for that luxe coconutty curry flavour? like i think ive seen Kiki use almond flavoured drops that have no cals/fats...maybe they make coconut ones too?

    • Silken tofu is a perfect substitute for coconut milk. If a recipe calls for 14 oz of coconut milk ( just a random example), put 14 oz of silken tofu in a blender, add water, blend. Use enough water to get to the consistency of milk (your preference). Use 14 oz of "tofu milk" from the blender in your recipe. I use silken tofu versus other types of tofu as a coconut milk/coconut cream substitute because it's low in fat, not gritty, and tastes better. It's also a great yogurt substitute in recipes too.

  • Cutting my salad with scissors allows me to eat an entire tub of greens (Thank you, Chef AJ), and flavored balsamic vinegar (Thank you, Kiki) with zero oil makes it incredibly delicious. This alone has changed my life. I am now stuffed before I even get to the main meal. This volume thing is pure magic!
