Don't know what machine to start with? This was my first CNC and I have zero regrets! shop.carbide3d.com/andybirdbuilds

I would pull the trigger if the laser was a little stronger. 15w seems so weak for almost $4k. I understand why it cannot be bigger, but that still doesn't change the value to power ratio. Thanks for the video. Avid has really done something nobody has done for us hobbyist and small businesses.
15Watt may seem low, but this is a diode laser, not a CO2. This laser can cut up to 3/16 plywood pretty fast. 1/4 if you don't mind a few passes. That's roughly what an 60-80 watt Co2 could do. That's a rough comparison as diodes and CO2s cut different material differently. Basically we picked this diode laser because it's really good at cutting any thickness material that the spindle isn't suited for. Anything thicker can usually be done with the spindle.
Awesome!
Cool set up. I need to chat with you and see about some of the markets you do. I am looking for some within a few hours of me in Ga.
Thanks for the great video. I just stumbled upon your post and looking forward to seeing your other videos. I have an AVID CNC in a garage shop and I ordered the AVID laser upgrade so I'm interested in this work. My question is have you released any videos on how you go from the hobby guy to a small business using this technology? I've been out of woodworking for a long time when my father died and just now putting together my own garage shop with the above equipment as a center piece and more. As an upcoming video can you talk about making the move to a business?
@davidthompson9359 Hi David! You've come to the right place! I've got a lot of videos about this topic. kzhead.info/channel/PLp-J1-xoURvXhh1b9GeDB5pqBeKV-BXHO.html I even have an online course that is exactly what you are talking about. www.andybirdbuilds.com/hobby-to-side-hustle-blackfriday
I'm looking at getting my first laser engraver. I'm looking at the Sculpfun S9. I'm a woodworker too so Hopefully it will work in well with that.
Cool! I don't know anything about that machine.
I'm really looking forward to the video, can you please show everything??? I have a laser, and was wondering how it would work/ look if you lasered the whole state. Not just the outline, but filled the whole thing in? Plus runtime difference
BTW, I'm looking out my window and watching the Harsens Island ferry!!!
Total cost of ownership you have in this machine? I know they sent you the laser but I can add that onto it. I really want to get into this and want to know what I'm in for. Thanks!
Looks like he has an AVID PRO4848 4' x 4' CNC. Basic setup with controller runs about $11K, but can go up to $21K depending on what upgrades you may want .Adding the laser tacks on another $3.8k.
WOW too expensive..Is there a discount code or sale ?
Andy, since you referred to the glasses as Elton John glasses, will you be staying with the same reference and changing your channel name to Rocket Man channel 🤔😳🤪. As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.
Possibly! 😅
How does the software side work? Does it use lightburn or are you programming in a CAM software like Fusion?
It's all set up in the cam software you're already using
Can this laser use the Vectric laser module for cad/cam projects?
@@tommiller4233 It's not needed
@@tommiller4233 Echoing what Andy said... you don't even need the laser module. Mach 4 (our version) can take any routing toolpaths and convert them to laser tool paths right on the control. That means that any CAM software you're currently using will work.
Will this laser work on the Shapeoko 5 Pro?
No. It's specific to Avid machines
