Cab Ride Arosa-Chur (Arosabahn, Rhaetian Railway - Switzerland) train driver's view in 4K
In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - a winter train driver's view from Arosa to Chur along the famous Arosa Valley in Switzerland. You can enjoy this video in the resolution of 4K/60 frames per second.
The Chur-Arosa railway, also called the Arosabahn, is a Swiss meter-gauge railway, which is operated by the Rhaetian Railway (Rhätischen Bahn; RhB). It was built in 1914 by the former Chur-Arosa-Bahn (Chur-Arosa Railway; ChA) to connect the Grisons capital, Chur, with the spa town of Arosa. Since 1942, it has been integrated into the network of the Rhaetian Railway. The name of the former company is still used as a name for the line.
This 26km line contains many civil engineering structures, including a total of 41 bridges,19 tunnels, and 12 avalanche-protection galleries. The landmark of the Arosa Railway is the Langwieser Viaduct. The longest tunnel is the 399 m-long Lüener Rüfe tunnel.
Over its whole length, the line climbs a total of 1155 vertical meters.
Chur is the capital of the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. The railway station was opened in 1858 and it is the most important railway junction in Graubünden. The station is one of the most important stations on the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) metre-gauge network.

4K 60 frames makes a huge difference. I would suggest other viewers to remember to SET THE IMAGE QUALITY IN VIDEO SETTINGS because KZhead insists on using HD as the standard (at least with me).
@dragon11z Thank you for the suggestion.
I'm don't know why YT does that. For me it started, and remained in 4K, but I've watched other videos that were in 4K, yet YT insisted on starting it in regular HD. Weird indeed.
Was für ein Kaiserwetter für dieses Video! Vielen Dank für die tolle Aufnahme.
@brigittehirs1898 you are welcome.
Thank you again for another great winter cab ride on the RhB. Do hope that the Bernia line is coming up soon.
@rninrvr I am glad that you liked it. It is coming up soon, in a week or two....
Superb video, and I like the extra detail that 4K brigs out, and this plays well on a large screen. The Arosa Line is one of my all time favourites, and its nice to see it again, evoking happy memories. Thanks for this its great.
you are welcome. I am glad that you enjoyed it.
Hey and thank you for the next route highlight in Switzerland. Again with the beautiful winter flair. Have a nice weekend and many greetings to Slovenia. 🙋🏼♂️
@AG-D647 Many thanks! I wish you a nice weekend too.
اللهم صل على محمد وال محمد ❤ good ❤
Thanks.

@Stas1661 Love every season here in Europe. Snow is magical and the spring after long winter is so refreshingly warm, and the summer, and then the autumn colours....4 seasons and the same place has totally 4 different landscapes.
Well done video, the quality is superb and presents, so well, the stunning beauty of Switzerland....I have many fine memories of my visits there !
@carljohnson3989 Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you.
I love this 😀
😀
The map in the beginning is really cool! And Switzerland, a marvellous land, incredible in the winter with snow. Great clear images!
@RunVirtual5 Thanks for the visit.
Thank you for this video and for all infos given. Globally it was a very nice cab ride, but in fact, this very nice ride is in the first 17 minutes. I've, particurlarly, appreciated the views over the two peaks at 3.51 and at 16.50 over the mountain in the background. Splendid at the end in the city of Chur, with blue sky and as the snow is in the heights of the mountains, we would tend to believe we are at the.begining of spring..Good sunday.and next week.
@javierguidounicaud6621 You are welcome. Glad you enjoyed it! I wish you a good Sunday and a wonderful week.
Good to see ongoing capacity improvements and safety solutions having been built or in the process of being built.
Great video with stunning footage excellent sunny circumstances. Big compliments, superb quality!!
@peterhonig4954 Thank you so much 😀. I am glad that you enjoyed it.
Grazie per aver pubblicato questa linea; bella, complimenti! Buongiorno. Ciao.

Belle vidéo merci

@ravtrance1 You are very welcome and a big thank you for your support. It helps me a lot to make more high quality content. I wish you a nice Sunday!
Fantastic and very interesting, like all your videos. Bravo and I look forward to discovering new ones. I regret that the subtitles aren't more legible (color and font), especially on light backgrounds.
@Gg-cb9rm Thank you very much!
Wonderful video's. Relaxed...top👍👍
@paolocuijpers Many thanks!
great ride thanks for sharing ;-)
@omisan59 Thanks for watching.
The Arosabahn! Too bad the Sousabahn doesn't exist! Maybe they'll build it sooner or later! I've been seeing this line on atlases for ages! I've seen both the summer and winter versions! On the summer version the names of the convoys and tunnels are missing, which you promptly updated in the winter version! Arosa is a famous spa resort in Grisons, while Chur is the city of Grisons, its true capital, but also an important medieval city. Its station is important because it connects Zurich with the Engadine, Sankt Moritz, and above all the Matterhorn lines up to Brig, which you have brilliantly illustrated. I really like the captions about the altitude and the route. The preview stimulates those who watch! It's the railway starter! When you arrive in Chur the road crossing of the city is incredible! Everything seems precise and punctual, but then again we are in Switzerland. Snow, mountains and railways. Spectacular! Thanku Thaku and again Thank u!
@wladislaw79 There are plans to build Sousabahn in a few years. 😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for your support, comments like yours are motivating me to keep on improving. As you noticed on the video from last year. I wish you a nice day!
Super effort!!
@tomseaman1108 Thanks a lot 😊
Great video!. Always nice to see this winding line. There is a small mistake in the captions. The two Allegra's that we cross during this video are not the 4/16 (four-car) version but rather the 8/12 (three-car) version. The 4/16 is AC-power only, has half the number of powered axles and less than half the available power. The 8/12 (AC and DC power) is commonly found on the Arosa and Bernina lines, where its' ridiculous power-to-weight ratio is used to haul not just itself but also additional passenger AND freight cars up the slopes. If Wikipedia is to be trusted, the 8/12 actually has more tractive power than the GE 4/4 III locomotive that the RhB uses.
@wilcovanwinden6581 Thank you for the informations about the rolling stock and sorry for the mistakes made.
Having mostly single track with passing loops seems to work for Switzerland. Very Swiss. Anywhere else the system would collapse...
So nice videos
Thanks.
Великолепно!

@RunVirtual5 Thanks.
@michaausleipzig Thank you.
Yes, the way RhB uses these Allegras (not to mention also cab cars that look the same) is crazy - 8/12 train, few additional waggons, old cab car and then few cargo cars. Very pragmatic, but that is Swiss for You - very practical and pragmatic.
@@ZvonimirZelenika Frankenstein couldn't have assembled a prettier trainset... 😅
The RhB and 2 other connecting meter-gauge lines use the same basic coach car to save design and construction costs. The cars are varied easily for each company.
At Lüen Castiel station, is that you, RR, checking your camera? Thanks for a superb video.
@brucewilliams8714 You are welcome. No, it was not me.
Spettacolare, a guardare certe pendenze sembra un plastico!!! L'arrivo a Coira in streetrunning poi è la ciliegina sulla torta. Impensabile in Italia!
@nobelitaly1024 It is great. I am glad that you liked this journey.
You have street running in Tirano!!
Maravilhosa 🇧🇷
@fluxodeonibusbrasilbus Realmente.
In old Chur, cars drive on the right and trains drive on the left. Only the sensible Swiss could make that work!
@ridefast0 😊

Since I am in America and we measure our distances in miles, how far in miles was this journey? I tried to do some math on it, but the answer isn't making any sense. My math says you went 16.22 miles, which is impossible since the trip time was an hour, and this definitely seemed like it went further than 16 miles. EDIT: The channel owner has verified that my math is correct, and the travel distance is just about 16 miles. I guess the train was not traveling as fast as it seemed to me. As for the trip itself -- fabulous! I took the entire trip without fast-forwarding. I wanted to enjoy the breathtaking views of a country that I would not otherwise ever see, or visit. It was fascinating how when the train left its starting point, there was very deep snow, but by the time it arrived at its destination, there was no snow at all. I love your train driver's view videos, and I try to watch at least a little bit of each one, or as in the case of this one, since it was only an hour, I watched the whole video. I was particularly interested in the part still under construction, that had a crane. It appeared to just -- end. I couldn't tell where it would go, since where it ended was solid earth, nowhere to go unless it will wind up merging with the active rail next to it. Yes, I thorougly enjoyed myself, and look forward to your next video. Peace, and blessed be!
@DavidEarle786 The line is 25.681 km (15.957 mi)long, your math is ok.
@@RailRelaxation Thanks for the response, and 'verifying' my math. 😊
A Km is 0.6 mile. At 77 and a CE, this throws me also. Multiply kph or km by 0.6 to get approx mph or miles, very close. The average grade from end to end is 1155/26000 or 4.44%. Since the last 1.5 or 2 km is close to 0 to 1%, my guess is 1155/24000 or 4.8% average with 5 to 5.5% max. grade. The Bernina Pass has 7% grades without a rack. The Flam Line in Norway is 5.5% and standard gauge.
Does the cab swing side to side on the frame? It sure seems to move the camera location way to the other side of a turn. Enjoy the videos.

Is that a whistle or a horn this train is blowing? It sounds like the whistles you hear from old European steam locomotives.
@Sacto1654 I think a whistle..
