If all you want to do is pull water over the hill/burm into the other water source then you don't need the tank. Just pick your size pipe and put a ball valve on the outlet side then submerge the pipe to fill it, close the ball vale and carry the outlet side over the hill/burm. Now all you have to do is open the ball vale and water will continue to flow. It's a siphon just like you had but without the barrow/stand. Water leaving the pipe creates a vacuum on the inlet side. It is simply volume displacement. Your barrow crushed because you were closing off the intake while the outlet was still displacing volume.
I think the collaps of the barrel is theatre. The plasic bags closing thevfilling studs, they hold!
@@Dingsrud The theatre is they don't need a barrel. This works like a pump if you need to draw water higher then the sourse and outlet, but clearly this is not needed here.
@@icicicles A barrel may be practical to prime the siphon. One do not need any foot valve and no need to take a bath in the river to remove any plastic bag at the suction side. An alternativ is to suck the whole tube in water to get it filled with water. This set up is a siphon with a starting barrel, it is not a pump. No siphon can lift water to a higher level. Water level in source usr be higher than discharge to the field.
@@Dingsrud Ya I probably shouldn't have used the word pump even though I expressed it like a pump, still wrong. Water does seek its own level so the outlet would have to be below the source.

..that is we called syfone system here in Philippines. That naturally socking the intake pipe because the output is lower than the water level. even they have no drum that is still working.

Great successful experiment ! The outlet pipe size assisted with gravity created high vaccum which the intake pipe unable to compensate, the result is high sucking power. Since the outlet deliver full 60mm capacity the vacuum power deformed the metal drum. Maybe can control the volume of water going out by installing a ball-valve at the end of the delivery pipe, to balance the input and output so that the drum will not deform.

@@kwaknitl-2guide318 i don't think so. if it's higher, it will not flow continuously and eventually stop when the strength required to suction the water from the river and the strength of the gravitational pull in the output pipe become balanced, as the volume of water in the drum decreases the water flow going out decreases also little by little until it will eventually stop.

@@jaymarbreguera591 if the water did not keep going into the barrel the barrel would keep bending, so it has already sartopped, it is bringing in the same amount of water as is fgoing out, it is a simple siphon nothing fancy, it just looks fancy design, you could do the same thing with 2 valves and a tee and a cap and pipe, valve on each end to hold the water in the pipe and fill the pipe at the tee and then cap the tee when full and two people open the two together and you have a siphon
@@butchs2337 Yes you can. But the barrel adds two benefits: no foot valve (here plastic bag) is needed in he river. No need to take any bath. Secondly, if there is a minor air leak in the system, a barrel can accumulate some air and make this siphin running for a longer period.

if you guys understand what cmh20 means then you know that this cannot run perpetually it doesnt matter how big the tank is because pressure has nothing to do with weight of the body of water but everything to do with level of water which is why pressure can be measured in cmh20 unit
It will run for ever, given that the water level in the river is higher than the exit to the field.
Hi Friend Thank you for your time but I am a bit confused on why you need all these. Simply the input water level is higher then the output level hence a straight tube will do the job. As you have done you need to fill the tube for the first time. This setup will never work if the out put water level is higher then the input.

Water flows from high level to lower level so therefore we don't need this device just fii up the pipe full of water and then release it to the lower lever. It will 💯 work

The water source level is much higher than your rice field no need to use drum you can put the pipe directly to water source same suction effect.

It's just a simple siphon, surely water flows because the amount of water from the discharged line is greater and the discharged line is still longer than the suction line, if you put a foot valve on the suction line and the discharged line is one size smaller, the vacuum effect will be reduce and the amount of discharged volume will continue in flowing even it is one size smaller and you don't need to prime the suction line cause prime water is being controlled by the foot valve.. 😎😎😎

This is a siphon. You may use a single tube or hose. The only purpose of the barrel is to make it easier to get the siphon started. The whole system must be airtight.
