"Chiribim, Chiribom" has its origin in Bessarabia where Moishe Oysher, who first recorded it in 1931, grew up. Pyotr's friend the late Pavel Rodionoff wrote the Russian language lyrics for him in about 1969 because the Cossacks felt it was not appropriate to sing in the original Yiddish. Pyotr Bondarenko made that famous song his own.
