  • Your video showed the USA cowboy Black Bart, not Black Bart the pirate. Different men. No photos of pirate Black Bart.

  • Thank you for the video! I loved it. However, being a North Carolinian, locals know Blackbeard’s real name was Edward Teach( not Thatch).

    • I think the picture you have at 15.20 is Edward Teach - Blackbeard, not the French chap (whose name I can't spell). The clue is the smoking matches in his hair!

  • This video seems to be obsessed with slavery - but only where it affects the british. Lets get things clear. Slavery has existed since there have been people on earth. Greeks, Romans, Barbary corsairs, Ottomans, Egyptians, Mongols, etc etc. Most slaves were taken as prisoners - African chiefs and Arab traders did the enslaving. The europeans saw a trading opportunity and took it. But within 250 years, the British had abolished it (no one else did) and took very active steps to stop it, even at the height of the Napoleonic wars, with the Royal Navy west africa squadron. Did we get paid oor any thanks for it? No, of course not. Only because of Britains trading wealth could they afford it. So although we all agree slavery is a vile and inhuman activity, get it in perspective, and don't judge yesterday by today, and don't just blame the British. Try the Spanish, the French, the Italians (the Romans!) Turkey (the Ottomans) etc. Be even handed.

  • Rating a pirate as "good" or "bad" based on whether or not they participated in slave running really isn't fair bcuz EVERYONE, meaning EVERY COUNTRY, participated in slavery bcuz that's the way it was back then. In fact, slavery was normal since the beginning of time and was only recently declared wrong/illegal (yet human trafficking still exists, even though it could be ended anytime ANY country wanted to get serious about ending it) but my point stands that, while wrong and, yes, BAD, rating historical figures based on their involvement with slavery shouldn't be rated that way bcuz that's just the way things were back then. Now, if we could only end slavery, aka, human trafficking, for real, that would be something to use as a means of rating our current historical figures "good" or "bad" and I'd love to see that day happen!!
